7: Parting ways
The young man's face changed, but hearing the sound behind him, he was so scared that he hurriedly ran upstairs.
"This way."
Qin Shilei pulled An Qian and ran all the way to the fifth floor, turned left, and randomly chose an open dorm room to duck into.
Just as he was about to close the door, the young man from earlier also rushed in.
"Quick, help!" Qin Shilei shouted sternly, moving everything he could to block the door.
The rapid footsteps outside the dorm indicated that the zombies were also catching up.
"Bang, bang, bang!"
The three had just moved two beds to prop against the door when the door was pounded, sending a cloud of dust falling.
"There are too many zombies; the door probably won't hold much longer," An Qian said worriedly, watching the constantly shaking door.
"An Qian, I'm sorry. I... I'll go out now and lure the zombies away," the young man said, his face full of shame.
"It's hard for you to get out now," An Qian said, her brows tightly furrowed, looking around, hoping to find something else to block the door more securely.
Her eyes lit up as she scanned the balcony behind the dorm: "We can climb down from the balcony."
After speaking, she went to the bed to get quilts, preparing to tie them together to use as a rope.
"Hey, you, why are you standing there stupidly? Come help, the door can't hold much longer!" the young man roared at Qin Shilei while pushing the wooden bed with all his might.
The door lock had already been broken by the zombies, and the door was occasionally forced open a crack.
It wouldn't be long before the zombies would swarm in.
"Found it!" Suddenly, a rope as thick as a thumb appeared in Qin Shilei's hand.
After handing the rope to An Qian, he also went to help prop up the wooden bed. "You go down first; I'll help hold the door."
"You bought it from the trading system?" An Qian dropped the quilt in her hand, took the rope, and rushed to the balcony.
"Hurry!" After tying the rope, An Qian directly slid down the rope to the floor below.
Although her movements were not professional, her speed was not slow.
The two rushed to the balcony at the same time and grabbed the rope simultaneously.
"You attracted the zombies, so you take the rear."
Qin Shilei had no habit of fulfilling others' wishes.
The young man wanted to argue, but then he saw An Qian peeking up from downstairs.
So he pretended to be generous and said, "Then you go first; I'll take the rear."
At this moment, the zombies had already entered the dorm and were hitting the balcony's glass door.
Frightened, the young man didn't even wait for Qin Shilei to slide to the third floor before he flipped over and jumped out onto the balcony, sliding down the rope.
Fortunately, the rope was strong enough and did not break under the weight of both of them.
Bang!
It was a zombie that had chased too quickly and couldn't stop its body, then was hit by a zombie behind it and fell downstairs.
The three climbed to the third floor without any major mishaps.
The zombies on the fifth floor were still sticking their heads out and roaring, but they didn't know how to climb down the rope.
After seeing her classmate enter, An Qian immediately closed and locked the balcony door.
Zhang Yong walked up to An Qian and asked with concern, "An Qian, it's so good that you're okay. After the zombie outbreak, you don't know how worried I was about you. I was really afraid I'd never see you again."
An Qian chuckled, "I'm fine. How did you end up there?"
Zhang Yong replied, "I originally planned to come find you to hang out today, but who knew I'd just happen to run into the zombie outbreak and get trapped there."
He paused, then asked, "Who is he, and how did you two end up together?"
"This is my classmate, Zhang Yong."
"This is Qin Shilei."
An Qian briefly introduced them.
Zhang Yong slightly raised his head and said to Qin Shilei with a challenging expression, "An Qian and I are childhood sweethearts who grew up playing together."
Qin Shilei replied indifferently, "Hello!"
"There's no such thing as childhood sweethearts. We're just neighbors and classmates. Zhang Yong, if you talk nonsense again, don't blame me for hitting you," An Qian said, raising the sword in her hand, scolding him.
"From elementary school to university, we've always faced challenges together. Can't that be called childhood sweethearts?" Zhang Yong said affectionately.
Noticing the signs of An Qian about to flare up from the corner of his eye, he quickly changed his words: "Uh, we're very good childhood friends."
While Zhang Yong was speaking, he kept sizing up Qin Shilei.
This unknown brat, who knows where he came from, was actually holding An Qian's sword, and just now, he was even holding An Qian's hand.
If An Qian wasn't here, he would definitely teach the other party a good lesson.
Qin Shilei glanced at Zhang Yong.
The other party was over 1.8 meters tall, wearing a black vest, with solid muscles that stretched the vest tightly.
He was handsome and sunny, a sporty guy very popular with girls.
His gaze towards him clearly carried hostility.
Although he had no mind to deal with these petty jealousies, he better not provoke him, otherwise his Seven Star Sword was not to be trifled with.
Zhang Yong turned to An Qian and said, "An Qian, let's go home together. I'm sure you're very worried about your mom too."
At the mention of this, An Qian wished she could immediately fly back to her mother's side.
She directly took out her phone, wanting to reconfirm the safety of her family.
"Why is there no signal? Zhang Yong, quickly check your phone," An Qian urged Zhang Yong anxiously to try his phone.
"Mine has no signal either," Zhang Yong said helplessly after taking out his phone and operating it for a bit.
"What should we do?"
An Qian paced back and forth in the dorm, her face showing a few more traces of panic.
"I need to go back immediately."
With no communication, unable to even get timely updates on her mother's situation, An Qian felt she should go back even if it meant taking risks.
What's more, she now had the Silkworm Silk Armor, and Zhang Yong was accompanying her, so she was sure they could go back.
"Then should the two of us leave immediately?" Zhang Yong's words subtly excluded Qin Shilei.
An Qian turned to look at Qin Shilei, "Where are you from? Are you going in the same direction as us?"
There was a hint of hope in her tone.
Given his strength, if he could go with her, the chances of safely returning home would definitely be greater.
"I'm sorry, we can only part ways for now," Qin Shilei thought for a moment and refused.
The other party was indeed a beauty, and he truly had no clear destination.
Their short time together had been relatively harmonious; in another time and space, he certainly wouldn't mind escorting such a beautiful woman home.
But he had the system, and in the apocalypse, survival was the most important thing; it was really not a good time to show off.
Hearing that Qin Shilei was no longer clinging to An Qian, Zhang Yong felt a surge of joy.
He muttered to himself, "It's a pity my knife is in the dorm; I can only use less than thirty percent of my strength."
He paused, then said, "If only I had a weapon, even if it's not a knife, it would be easier for us to go home."
While Zhang Yong spoke of weapons, his eyes kept staring at the Seven Star Sword in Qin Shilei's hand.
"Is he trying to get my sword?" Qin Shilei narrowed his eyes and said in a deep voice.
"What do you mean 'your sword'? This is clearly An Qian's practice sword!" Zhang Yong said righteously.
Qin Shilei ignored him, looking up at An Qian.
An Qian's face changed, and she suddenly turned to Zhang Yong and scolded, "This is something I gave to Qin Shilei, so it's his. Besides, this sword isn't sharpened; it's useless to someone who practices with a knife. Stop fantasizing; let's go now, and we'll find you a knife on the way."
What a considerate girl!
Qin Shilei inwardly gave her another thumbs-up.
Pointing to the convenience store opposite, he said, "It's almost dark, so let's go over now. You two grab some food before you leave."
The three arrived at the convenience store, pushed the door, but found it locked from the inside.
They gently knocked on the door, but there was no response.
An Qian thought for a moment and said, "I'm afraid the people inside won't easily open the door to let us in. I'll go to Auntie Dorm Manager's room to get some food and then leave."
After speaking, she returned to the Auntie Dorm Manager's room in her building to look for things.
Zhang Yong also slipped into the Auntie Dorm Manager's room he had just come out of.
Soon, both of them came out carrying backpacks, and Zhang Yong was also holding a cleaver.
Waving their hands, the two climbed over the wall next to the dorm and disappeared shortly after.
