86: Encountering crocodiles again

As they drew closer to Nanzhuang City, the number of vehicles on the road increased.

There were those who went out of the city to hunt zombies or search for supplies, and also those who fled from nearby.

Although there were many vehicles, the road had apparently been cleared, and the vehicles traveled even faster.

Half an hour later, Qin Shilei and his group passed through the checkpoint and entered He Shan District.

Qin Shilei said to Zhang Qiang, who was in front, “Brother Qiang, let’s find a place to stay first.”

Zhang Qiang simply replied, “Okay.”

However, they went to several residential areas, but all of them were overcrowded.

Even the shops on the first floor of the residential areas were packed with several families.

Upon asking, they found out that because people heard that this was a base opened by the military and that food was being distributed, people from nearby areas all fled here.

The small He Shan District was probably crammed with hundreds of thousands of people.

Because there was no water or electricity, most people only lived below the tenth floor, making it even more crowded.

Qin Shilei frowned and said, “Let’s keep looking for a better place; we’ll directly buy supplies.”

After another half an hour, Xie Haimei suddenly pointed to a luxurious residential area by the river and said, “Brother Qiang, that environment looks good.”

It was Chiyuan Mansion, a luxurious riverside residential area built right next to the Chi Yuan River.

Inside the residential area, besides two high-rise buildings of over twenty stories, the rest were luxurious three-and-a-half-story villas.

Zhang Qiang turned the steering wheel and drove towards it, “I hope there are still empty houses.”

As soon as they drove to the entrance of the residential area, a middle-aged man in his forties immediately walked out and stopped them, saying, “This place is already occupied; please leave.”

Qin Shilei took out a pack of cigarettes, pulled one out, and handed it over, “Uncle, we want to buy a villa here.”

The uncle skillfully took the cigarette and quickly lit it.

He took a deep puff, savored it for a while, and then indifferently replied, “The villas here are not for sale; you should look for another place.”

Damn it, he only accepts gifts and doesn’t do anything.

Qin Shilei suppressed his temper and continued to ask, “Are there any empty apartments in those two high-rise buildings?”

The uncle blew out a smoke ring, “Yes, no one lives above the twelfth floor.”

He paused, then continued, “Although there are empty ones, you are not welcome either.”

“Uncle, you’re going too far.”

Qin Shilei said in a deep voice, “You guys occupied this place, right? If there are empty houses, why can’t we live in them?”

Actually, he didn’t want to live too high up; he was just annoyed by the other party’s attitude.

Now, the entire Nanzhuang City, except for a few places with large generators providing electricity, has no water or electricity.

Not to mention anything else, if you use the restroom, you have to fetch water from the Chi Yuan River to flush the toilet.

As for general drinking water, it is also drawn from the Chi Yuan River, then simply filtered, and distributed in some centralized locations.

You might ask, what if there are zombie corpses in the river, and drinking the water turns you into a zombie?

Just leave it to fate.

Perhaps as time passes and they absorb crystals, human physiques are constantly strengthening, and so far, no one has been found to turn into a zombie from drinking water.

It’s also possible that there are fewer zombies soaking in the river, and thus less virus.

However, diarrhea or other discomforts due to drinking this water are common.

Otherwise, you can also drink purified water or mineral water from before.

Back to the main topic, due to various inconveniences, people generally do not choose to live in high-rise buildings.

Yet, for houses above the twelfth floor, that uncle actually said they were not welcome.

“Why?” The uncle sneered, “Because our Heaven Wolf Gang has hard fists.”

He paused and then rubbed his fingers, “Of course, things are not absolute. As long as you are sensible, I can still show you a clear path.”

Qin Shilei extended his palm, and a constantly flickering lightning bolt appeared in his palm, “I wonder if my fist is hard enough.”

The uncle’s face changed, and he said with a show of bravado, “Don’t try to scare me; several captains and the leader of our Heaven Wolf Gang also know how to use abilities.”

He paused again and said, “As long as you join our Heaven Wolf Gang, you can move into those two high-rise buildings.”

Qin Shilei pointed to the villas, “I wonder if your leader is around; I want to buy a villa from him.”

“Don’t even think about it; those are the residences of our Heaven Wolf Gang’s high-ranking members.”

The uncle wanted to mock him, but seeing the lightning in Qin Shilei’s hand, he had no choice but to reply, “They went out of the city to kill zombies and will only return after dark.”

“How about we look around again?” An Qian walked to Qin Shilei’s side and whispered.

Qin Shilei frowned, just about to agree.

“Help!”

Suddenly, from the innermost part of the residential area, near the river, a tragic cry for help rang out.

The uncle’s face changed, and he turned and rushed towards that direction, but after two steps, he abruptly slowed down, climbed a tall tree in the residential area, and looked over.

However, the more he looked, the more terrified he became, and he quickly slid down, running out of the residential area without looking back.

“Let’s go, let’s take a look.” Qin Shilei called out and rushed towards the source of the sound like a leopard.

Turning past a villa, a bloody scene appeared before his eyes.

A three to four-meter-long crocodile bit a woman in half, swallowing the upper half of her body like a whole date.

After swallowing the woman, it opened its mouth wide again, biting at a seven or eight-year-old girl two or three meters away.

“Whoosh!”

Qin Shilei quickly took out his short bow and shot an arrow.

The swiftly flying arrow entered through its mouth, passed through its upper jaw, and exited through the crocodile’s head.

The crocodile’s open mouth closed powerlessly, and it lay motionless on the ground.

“Help!”

At this moment, desperate cries for help came from several villas around.

“We’ll split up.”

Qin Shilei said to An Qian and the others who had just arrived, while running towards the nearest villa.

An Qian and the others also drew their weapons and ran towards the direction of the sounds.

Qin Shilei rushed into the villa through the broken gate and immediately saw a crocodile chasing a middle-aged woman upstairs.

The crocodile was five to six meters long, and its massive body completely filled the staircase.

With one stride of its sturdy limbs, it climbed seven or eight steps.

It was about to open its mouth and bite the woman in half.

“Whoosh!”

Qin Shilei shot an arrow at the crocodile’s head.

A spark flashed, and the sharp arrow was actually deflected by the crocodile’s hide, falling to the wall in front.

“Roar!”

The crocodile swung its head, breaking the stair railing, and roared ferociously at Qin Shilei.

“Whoosh whoosh!”

Qin Shilei fired a series of arrows, all aimed at the crocodile’s eyes.

“Clang, clang, clang!”

The crocodile closed its eyes in time, and its hard eyelids deflected the arrows one by one.

Then, with a leap, it jumped down from the stairs and quickly crawled towards Qin Shilei.

“Puff!”

The crocodile sprayed a water arrow towards Qin Shilei’s perceived position.

Qin Shilei dodged the water arrow by shifting his body, drew his Jinghong Sword, and charged towards the crocodile.

The water arrow behind him shot a hole through the thick brick wall, passing right through it.
