104: Chapter 104 You Must Live Well

"Alright, we'll go back immediately and have our families pack their things. We'll leave together tomorrow." Jiang Heng jumped up and hurriedly dragged his brothers away.

Grandpa Zhou sighed, "I never expected this, I really didn't. In the end, we still have to leave this place."

Xu Wanning wasn't sure if this was the right step to take, but since they were going, she wouldn't regret it.

That evening, Lu Chengyue hugged Xu Wanning after she finished her shower. "Ningning, don't worry. You did the right thing. Rather than being an annoyance here, it's better to leave."

"But there are so many of us. What if they try to stop us..." Xu Wanning didn't want any unnecessary casualties.

"Rest assured, they won't go so far as to burn bridges right now." Lu Chengyue frowned slightly. "We'll drive our own vehicles tomorrow."

"Mm." Xu Wanning had previously collected five large buses, which should be enough to fit everyone.

Xu Wanning sent a message to Lin Ci: "I plan to leave Jing City for Jin City tomorrow. Are you coming with us?"

She wasn't sure if Lin Ci had come to Jing City because of her, but she had to ask, just in case he looked for her later and couldn't find her.

"We'll go together. There are 20 of us in total, and we have our own vehicles." About thirty seconds later, Lin Ci replied.

The next day, when Xu Wanning and her group gathered at the entrance and she was just about to bring out the buses, a massive, imposing crowd of people walked over.

Jiang Heng clutched his forehead. "What the hell? Who leaked the news that we were leaving? Doesn't this mean we won't be able to go?!"

"Nobody knew except for our families," Xu Yu said, gripping the hilt of his sword. "It looks like there's going to be a tough fight."

"Don't rush." Xu Wanning stopped them. She recognized the person leading the group; it was the person who had spoken up for her in the conference room yesterday.

"Nickname, would you mind taking us with you?" Uncle Zhao, who was leading the group, asked with a smile.

"That's right. We old folks, along with our juniors, are willing to leave with you. We wonder if you're willing to take us along?" Uncle Qian added cheerfully.

Uncle Cheng—that is, Police Captain Cheng Jingchuan's father—smiled. "And me too. My son is already going with you, so of course, I have to follow."

It was a total plot twist; who could have imagined they weren't here to cause trouble?

"If you all leave with me, won't that be a problem?" Xu Wanning wasn't sure if this was the right thing to do. She was very patriotic, and taking people away like this felt like treason.

"It won't be." Uncle Zhao leaned in mysteriously. "The Great Leader tacitly approved it and even gave the green light. If it weren't for the fact that it's inconvenient for The Great Leader to leave, he said he would have wanted to come along too."

Xu Wanning looked toward the central main building. She hadn't expected that The Great Leader had guessed her intention to leave and had specifically ordered people not to give her a hard time.

Uncle Qian handed her a new mobile phone. "This is a satellite phone that The Great Leader prepared for you. The Great Leader's number is saved inside, so you can contact him at any time."

"Alright." Xu Wanning tucked the phone into her pocket. "Let's go."

She brought out the buses, and everyone boarded one after another. Once a bus was full, it would depart, and they would move to the next one.

Surprisingly, all five buses were filled to capacity.

Xu Wanning sat in the first bus. After getting settled, she sent a message to The Great Leader: "Uncle, I'm leaving with my family. My presence here caused you trouble, and it's better for everyone if I leave."

The Great Leader's reply came quickly: "You must live well."

"You too." After sending those last three words, Xu Wanning tucked the phone into her pocket.

The vehicles hadn't driven far when a shouting voice was heard.

"Wen Shuyang, don't go, don't go, take me with you!"

Everyone who heard the voice opened the windows to look back. It was actually Jiang Lei. He looked even dirtier than before and appeared very weak, as if he hadn't eaten enough.

Wen Shuyang slammed the window shut. "Bad luck."

The vehicles showed no sign of stopping. In the rearview mirror, Jiang Lei's figure grew smaller and smaller.

After the vehicles drove out of the walled area, all the Wind Ability users mobilized, sweeping away the surrounding zombies.

They didn't have time to clear out the zombies; they needed to leave Jing City in the shortest time possible and head to the chosen destination, Jin City.

Jin City wasn't too far from Jing City. They could reach it directly by taking the expressway—specifically the beltway—to avoid the danger of entering the main urban areas of the prefecture-level cities.

The Wind Ability users split into two groups to ensure they could travel for ten hours.

Lin Ci and his teammates were in the same bus as Xu Wanning. He deliberately sat next to Xu Wanning, with the aisle between them.

"Wanning, why did you suddenly decide to leave?" He remembered that her status in Jing City was quite high.

Xu Wanning laughed lightly. "Because the treatment The Great Leader gave me was too good, which upset some people. To avoid making things difficult for The Great Leader, I thought it would be better to just leave."

Lin Ci frowned slightly. "Is there something else?" He didn't believe it was just because of this one thing.

"I heard outside the conference room door that they want to develop a zombie virus vaccine and an injection that can allow ordinary people to awaken a Supernatural ability."

She rubbed her fingers together. "I can't protect all the survivors, but at the very least, I must ensure the safety of those who follow me. That's why I have to leave."

Now Lin Ci understood. He had previously thought such a day would come.

"How are things back in your hometown?" Setting aside the unhappy topics, Xu Wanning took the initiative to ask about his family situation.

Lin Ci's expression relaxed as he began to talk about everything that had happened since he returned.

Seeing the two of them chatting more and more happily, Lu Chengyue felt jealous and reached over to wrap his arm around her waist.

Feeling the hand on her waist, Xu Wanning reached out to press it and scratched the back of his hand, by way of comfort.

Lu Chengyue felt a little happier then.

Lin Ci saw their little interaction but pretended not to. He hadn't intended to come here to steal her away anyway. If he had really intended to steal her, he would have brought his whole family along.

"Wanning, I'll take my people and head off once we reach the expressway to Jin City." Lin Ci felt a bit reluctant, not knowing when they would meet again.

"Once I get things set up in Jin City, I'll call you. If you're willing to bring the villagers over, you can come anytime."

To establish a power base in a city, their group of less than 300 people was far from enough.

"Alright."

Nine hours later, Lin Ci and his teammates got off the bus.

They were very lucky; they hadn't encountered any zombies with a Supernatural ability along the way, only ordinary zombies.

Walking to the bus door, Lin Ci turned back and looked at Lu Chengyue provocatively. "Wanning, remember to miss me. I'll miss you." After saying this with a wicked smile, he left.

The hand Lu Chengyue had on Xu Wanning's waist tightened. This guy was truly annoying.

After Lin Ci and his group drove off, the convoy entered Jin City.

Xu Wanning cupped Lu Chengyue's face. "Are you jealous?"

Lu Chengyue nodded. "Mm."

Xu Wanning laughed. "No need to be jealous. I chose you back then, didn't I? That means you're more important to me than him."

Lu Chengyue couldn't help but curl the corners of his mouth upward. That's right; he was the man who had defeated Zhou Ke and Lin Ci. Ningning liked him the most.

Just as the information they had received previously suggested, Jin City had truly become a paradise for zombies.

There might still be survivors here, but they couldn't be detected. With so many zombies, it would be hard to find even one or two survivors among them.
