17: Chapter 17 Failed Flirting

Xu Wanning followed along happily, "Yes, yes! I was also thinking about buying some chicks, ducklings, goslings, piglets, lambs, and calves in a while to raise at Grandpa Zhou's place."

"It seems like we don't need to now, huh? If we go to Qingqing's place, won't they have everything?"

Lu Chengyue loved eating lamb the most, but he had only eaten it twice after The Apocalypse began, and hadn't been able to find any since. This was great.

Song Yunqing, who had been dazed, smiled, "That's great, I can finally help out too. Don't worry, I'll definitely find a way to make them believe me when I go back."

"If they don't believe me, I'll have Ningning go over and specifically demonstrate the Space Ability for them."

"Deal, then it's settled."

The four little sisters high-fived each other, full of confidence in the future.

Before going to sleep, Xu Wanning posted another update on her social media. This time, it was a photo of her lying on a pillow with her eyes closed, with the caption 'Worked hard today, get some good rest.'

Soon, her phone rang with notifications, all likes.

She took a look, and the first person to like it wasn't Lu Chengyue, but surprisingly, Lin Ci.

The second was Wen Shuyang, followed by Lu Zhiyu, Song Yunqing, Zhou Ke, and other classmates and friends.

Lu Chengyue hadn't made a move at all. Could he be on night duty again tonight and didn't have his phone?! Sigh, it seems tonight's flirting failed. Time to sleep, time to sleep.

What she didn't know was that in the Fire Station dormitory, Lu Chengyue had been sitting on his bed staring at his phone for a long time, his right hand clenched into a fist.

Jiang Yishen came back from washing up and shoved his basin under the bed, "Old Lu, what are you looking at? Why do you look so bitter and hateful?"

Lu Chengyue quickly turned off his phone, "Nothing." He pretended to be nonchalant as he got into bed and pulled up the quilt.

Jiang Yishen sat on the bed, "I don't believe it. Usually, you keep your phone locked in the cabinet and don't even look at it. But these past few days, you haven't let your phone out of your sight whenever you're on a break."

As he spoke, he leaned forward, "Tell me, which little girl are you chatting with? Could it be that little nurse from the hospital last time?"

Lu Chengyue reached out and pushed him back, "It's not."

He had discovered the little girl's post immediately and clicked on it. While he was dazed looking at her sleeping face in the photo, someone had actually beaten him to liking it.

For some reason, his first instinct was that the person who liked it was Lin Ci, that guy who had been staring straight at the little girl while taking photos—he clearly had bad intentions.

Jiang Yishen still didn't believe him, "Fine, don't tell me then. But seriously, your sister's roommates are all so pretty."

"Especially that girl who wore the white sweater that day; she's practically at goddess level, even prettier than female celebrities. I wonder if she has a boyfriend, and if she likes masculine men like us?"

As he spoke, he couldn't help but curl his lips upward. Oh man, why didn't he take the initiative to add her contact info that day? Maybe he would have had a chance to get to know her.

"Is she going to Zhiyu's birthday tomorrow? I have to take the opportunity to add her contact info. You have to have dreams, after all."

The more he talked, the more carried away he got, completely failing to notice how dark Lu Chengyue's face was beside him.

"I'm saying, why don't you..." Jiang Yishen had been talking for a long time without getting a response, so he turned to look at Lu Chengyue. Upon meeting his murderous gaze, the rest of his words were stifled, "Wh-what's wrong?"

Lu Chengyue brushed him aside in annoyance, "She's a top student, how could she ever consider rough guys like us!"

"The people she likes are all intellectuals with whom she has common topics, unlike us, who only know how to talk about firefighting common sense."

Just thinking about Lin Ci made him angry. Who told him to be a typical top student and intellectual, looking so frail—could he even protect the little girl?

Jiang Yishen nodded dejectedly, "You're right. I'm just a high school graduate, what would I have to talk to her about? Sigh, your education is higher than mine, but even you're just a junior college grad; she definitely wouldn't look at us."

Lu Chengyue's heart was struck hard. It wasn't like he didn't know; did he need to be told again?!

He angrily threw off the quilt, "Shut up and go to sleep."

Jiang Yishen muttered softly, "What's wrong with him, so much temper—is it his time of the month?"

Waking up early the next morning, the first thing Xu Wanning did was reach for her phone to see if Lu Chengyue had liked her post, but he hadn't.

Did he not see it? Or did he see it and didn't want to like it or say anything?

Lu Zhiyu patted Xu Wanning's bed, "Ningning, get up. If you don't get up now, we'll miss breakfast."

"I'm up." Xu Wanning put her phone aside and got dressed.

On Friday, their department had two classes in the morning and only one in the afternoon. They had discussed yesterday that they would go get a round of gasoline at noon, and then another round after class in the afternoon.

First, they would go to the market to buy some empty barrels, fill them up, pump the gas into the barrels, put them into the Space Ability, and then go to get more.

The four of them washed up and rushed to class, then hurriedly separated at noon to get gas. Afterward, they returned to school, finished their classes, and then rushed off to get more gas again, busying themselves until 4:30 PM when they returned to the school gate.

Lin Ci was standing at the gate, wearing jeans and a khaki jacket, a very typical college boy image.

His height of 183 cm attracted the attention of many students leaving the school, both boys and girls.

When Xu Wanning and the others arrived, two girls were just asking Lin Ci for his wechat.

As soon as she opened the car door, Lin Ci walked over immediately, "Sorry." He said something ambiguous, leaving them to fill in the blanks themselves.

"Isn't that the school belle? Could this be the school belle's boyfriend?"

"Let's go quickly, what do we have to compare with them? Sigh."

The two girls hurried away.

Xu Wanning glared at Lin Ci helplessly, "Get in the car."

This time they drove the van, which could seat 7 people. Lu Zhiyu drove, and she sat in the passenger seat.

Lin Ci rubbed his nose. He admitted he had done it on purpose. Xu Wanning was the school belle, and these rumors would soon spread throughout the school. This way, she would be labeled as his, Lin Ci's.

Xu Wanning knew this too, which was why she was angry. Why was this guy so different from when he was in The Apocalypse? Should she not have contacted them before The Apocalypse?

Lin Ci knew she was angry, so he stayed quiet as a mouse the whole way, thinking about finding an opportunity later to apologize and coax her.

However, after parking the car and arriving at the barbecue restaurant, he couldn't stay calm anymore.

Eleven men with incredible physiques were standing in front of the barbecue restaurant, making him look like a little chick. Especially the tallest one, who could probably knock him unconscious with a single punch.

He thought that if he couldn't afford to offend them, he could at least avoid them; wouldn't it be fine if he just didn't go over? But...

Lu Zhiyu pulled Xu Wanning over with a trot, "Brother, you guys are so early. I've booked a table, let's go in."

"Yeah." Although Lu Chengyue was replying to Lu Zhiyu, his gaze remained fixed on Xu Wanning.

Xu Wanning was wearing a red sweater today, which made her skin look fair and her complexion good. She wore jeans on her lower body, simple and clean.

He lowered his head, his pupils appearing dark brown under the warm light of the barbecue restaurant, with a bit more warmth and softness than usual.
