87: Chapter 87 Didn't you say you wanted to take it slow?
Lu Zhiyu also stared at her mom with curious eyes, "Did you two find jobs here?"
The two nodded with a chuckle, "Yeah, we can't just do nothing and wait to be supported by you guys, that wouldn't be right. We went to report to the Resource Office with Wanqiu and Meilan, and it turned out they said there were openings in the cafeteria, so we came here. It pays 200 points a day."
"Mom, give me a bigger portion, I feel like I could eat a whole cow," Wen Shuyang said, acting spoiled toward her mom.
"Got it." Wu Suyun's spoon didn't shake at all as she heaped a full, overflowing scoop of food onto her plate.
After lining up and getting their food, the group took over several tables to start eating. The food was indeed delicious, rivaling Auntie Lan's cooking.
"Sister Ning, are we going out again tomorrow?" Jiang Heng was eager to earn points. He had only joined today and had no points; he could only get them by going out on missions tomorrow.
He wanted to save up more points so he could buy a house in the Central District later and have his parents move over.
"Of course. There probably won't be many missions later on as more survivor squads join. By then, we'll have to fight to claim them. We should save up as many points and crystal nuclei as we can now, then we can just retire comfortably later."
"That's great." Everyone hadn't had enough of killing zombies today, so they would continue tomorrow.
After dinner, the group left the cafeteria.
Su Chenyu and the others stopped at the fork in the road and pointed to the path on the left leading to the dormitory area, "We'll head to the dormitory first, then come meet up with you tomorrow morning."
Xu Wanning thought for a moment, "Breakfast at the cafeteria is from 6:00 to 7:30. If you go late, there won't be any left. Let's just meet at the cafeteria tomorrow."
The cafeteria meals were 15 points per serving, which wasn't expensive. They would usually eat at the cafeteria and eat from the space when out on missions.
"Got it." They each took the luggage Xu Wanning handed over and left in a hurry.
The others were also very tactful and left first, leaving only Xu Wanning and Lu Chengyue behind.
The two stood at the fork in the road, the lights from the Mission Hall shining from behind them, stretching their shadows long.
Lu Chengyue changed the position of the hand holding hers, shifting from a simple hold to interlaced fingers. His fingers slipped between hers, slowly tightening, though not too firmly.
His hand was still so hot, and the rough calluses rubbed against the base of her fingers and the web between her thumb and index finger, the sensation neither too light nor too heavy.
They walked very slowly. At this hour, there were many pedestrians on the road, mostly returning to the dormitories or going to the Mission Hall to turn in missions. Occasionally, one or two patrollers with walkie-talkies at their waists walked by.
"Ningning, I, I want to move up and sleep with you," Lu Chengyue said after hesitating for a moment.
"Hmm?" Xu Wanning was surprised, "Didn't you say you wanted to take things slow?"
She didn't mind when they moved in together; she didn't have a strong desire for that aspect of things. If it happened, she wouldn't object, but if it didn't, she didn't care either.
"I saw so many families separated by death today. I, I don't want to leave any regrets."
Before, he had thought about taking it slow, but The Apocalypse wouldn't give anyone the chance to take it slow. Who knew, one day he might just die.
"Alright, let's move in when we get back." Xu Wanning shook Lu Chengyue's hand, "Hehe, I'll be able to touch A-Yue's abs tonight."
The tips of Lu Chengyue's ears turned bright red. Thinking about what might happen tonight, his hands and feet felt a bit out of control.
Xu Wanning laughed, "A-Yue, you're walking with the same hand and foot."
Lu Chengyue quickly corrected his gait, but as he walked, he fell back into the same rhythm, making Xu Wanning laugh until she doubled over.
Returning to the villa, as soon as they entered, everyone in the living room looked over in unison, then pretended to look away casually.
"Go pack your things." Xu Wanning didn't feel embarrassed at all; they had already gotten their marriage certificate, so living together was only natural.
"Yeah." Lu Chengyue nodded with red ears and pulled Xu Wanning quickly toward the basement.
He didn't have many things, so he stuffed them one by one into his suitcase. Fearing he might be embarrassed, she simply put them into her space.
After getting it done, the two returned to the first floor. As soon as they appeared, everyone's gaze snapped back to them in unison.
Xu Wanning sighed, "From today on, A-Yue will be living with me on the third floor. Who wants the room in the basement?"
Zhou Ke suggested, "Let that kid Jiang Heng come over. He has a mental-type Supernatural ability, so he can sense danger immediately if he's here."
"Alright, send him a message." Since they had arrived in the Central District, their phones could connect to the internet, so they could just contact him via phone.
"Okay." Zhou Ke immediately sent a message to Jiang Heng.
Xu Wanning pulled Lu Chengyue upstairs amidst everyone's blessing gazes.
Lu Zhiyu laughed, "Haha, my brother is walking with the same hand and foot again."
Lu Mingyuan patted her, "You're laughing too loudly. Your brother is going to get shy."
Lu Zhiyu covered her mouth, "Got it, got it, I won't laugh."
Everyone tacitly refrained from laughing out loud. They were happy for them, and everyone else was pleased as well.
Xu Jingan sighed. His daughter was married just like that. Without a wedding, he always felt like something was missing. He hoped they would have the chance to have a wedding later.
Over here, Xu Wanning and Lu Chengyue had already reached the bedroom. Lu Chengyue's suitcase was spread open on the floor, with some other miscellaneous items placed beside it.
Xu Wanning opened the wardrobe and pushed her clothes to the side, making space for Lu Chengyue in the closet.
Most of Lu Chengyue's clothes were dark-colored quick-dry shirts and tactical pants, all folded neatly.
The two of them took turns handing and receiving, hanging Lu Chengyue's clothes in the closet, and then organizing Lu Chengyue's other items into suitable places.
By the time everything was done, it was already 9 PM, a time when one could either go to sleep or stay up.
Xu Wanning rolled her eyes, "A-Yue, I'm going to take a shower first."
"Okay." Lu Chengyue's hand holding the water cup paused, his throat tightening.
Xu Wanning took her pajamas and went into the bathroom. The sound of water started, disrupting Lu Chengyue's focus. He kept reciting the fire safety manual, but his ears were still involuntarily drawn to the sounds from the bathroom.
30 minutes later, Xu Wanning came out covered in steam. She walked over while drying her hair, and seeing Lu Chengyue's bright red face, she pretended not to notice, "A-Yue, go take your shower."
Lu Chengyue stood up stiffly, grabbed his pajamas and sleep pants, and fled into the bathroom.
Xu Wanning's lips curled up as she sat leisurely at the vanity to blow-dry her hair, "One might think I'm forcing him to do something, sigh."
Lu Chengyue usually showered very quickly, but today he lingered inside for a long time. Xu Wanning's hair was already dry, and he still hadn't come out.
"He's probably going to scrub a layer of skin off." Xu Wanning smiled and burrowed into the quilt, taking out a novel to read.
A full half-hour passed before Lu Chengyue finally came out, damp from the shower.
He took one step at a time to the bedside, "Ning, Ningning, I'm done showering."
Xu Wanning put the novel back into the space, "Dry your hair. Sleeping with wet hair can easily cause migraines and colds."
"Okay, okay." Lu Chengyue walked with the same hand and foot to the vanity to blow-dry his hair. His hair was short, so it took less than two or three minutes to dry.
After blow-drying, he sat there stiffly, not moving. He lifted his left hand and put it back down, took a step forward with his right foot and then pulled it back.
Xu Wanning covered her mouth to stifle a laugh, "A-Yue, let's go to sleep."
