36: Chapter 36 Next time, don't do it outside.
"Whoops, looks like I overdid it. It seems this method doesn't work either. What exactly is his type?!"
Wen Shuyang leaned in, "Ningning, stop fishing. There's more than just Lu Chengyue here; didn't you see Zhou Ke's eyes shooting flames?"
Huh? Xu Wanning turned her head, dazed. It's over, it's over, I really overdid it. I thought only Lu Chengyue and Wen Shuyang could see from this angle; I didn't expect Zhou Ke to be sitting at such a tricky angle.
She quickly straightened up, "I was wrong, I was wrong." *Sob*, someone come and wake the previous Xu Wanning up, *sob*.
After dinner, Lu Chengyue left without even saying goodbye to her. Xu Wanning sat on the steps under the eaves, feeling depressed.
Wen Shuyang and Song Yunqing accompanied her, one on each side.
Wen Shuyang nudged her, "Ningning, let's be real, even if Lu Chengyue were a block of wood, he should have been moved by now. Since he keeps not responding, let's just give up. There are plenty of good men out there; why insist on hanging yourself on this one tree?"
Song Yunqing nodded along, "Exactly. Zhou Ke is quite good too, Lin Ci is not bad either, and there's also little brother Jiang Heng. Any one of them is no worse than him."
Xu Wanning didn't make a sound, "You guys don't understand."
The two didn't try to persuade her further. They truly didn't understand; after all, they hadn't experienced the three years of The Apocalypse that Ningning had. Perhaps their feelings had already been etched into their bones during The Apocalypse, making it too difficult for this version of Ningning to give up on Lu Chengyue.
Wen Shuyang hugged her, "We won't try to persuade you anymore, but promise us, don't let yourself get hurt."
Song Yunqing also wrapped her arms around them. When her sister felt sad, she felt sad too.
Ding-dong.
Xu Wanning's phone rang. She opened it, and a voice message from Lu Chengyue popped up, "N-next time, don't do it outside."
Xu Wanning curled her lips into a smile.
"Pfft." Wen Shuyang really couldn't hold it in, "So it turns out it's not that he doesn't like you, but that he doesn't like doing it in public. Sigh."
Song Yunqing sighed, "Fine, you two are truly a match made in heaven. Time to go back to sleep!"
Xu Wanning replied to the message, "Got it."

Early the next morning after breakfast, Grandpa Zhou prepared to take Xu Wanning away.
Everyone got up early to see them off; they were very worried that once they left, they might not come back.
Xu Wanning reassured them, "Don't worry, nothing will happen."
Lin Wanqiu hugged her daughter, "Ningning, you must ensure your safety."
She knew that her daughter being able to return might be heaven's way of sending her back to save the world, but as her mother, she cared more about her daughter's life and death.
"Don't worry, Mom." Xu Wanning patted Lin Wanqiu's back.
After hugging everyone one by one, Xu Wanning turned and got into the car.
The car drove all the way toward the suburbs, and the scenery along the way became increasingly beautiful.
Grandpa Zhou turned to look at her, "Nickname, don't worry. Even if they don't believe it, Grandpa can guarantee I'll bring you back."
"Mhm." Xu Wanning nodded, "I'm not worried about that. I'm just regretful that after the Acid Rain, these sceneries will never be seen again; everywhere will be withered, yellow, and dilapidated."
Grandpa Zhou sighed, "If the higher-ups believe it, they will definitely find ways to preserve various species. Once The Apocalypse ends, rebuilding our home will be just around the corner."
"Mhm." Now we can only trust in our motherland.
The car drove into the mountains, and the first iron gate appeared. There were soldiers guarding the side of the iron gate. Grandpa Zhou took out a card and handed it over, and the other party let them pass only after checking it.
After passing through three iron gates in a row, they finally arrived in front of the villa inside. If this place wasn't where big shots lived, she wouldn't believe it.
The two got out of the car. Grandpa Zhou walked inside with a straight back, and Xu Wanning followed beside him without showing any sign of timidity.
They had already notified them beforehand. The two walked up the steps, and the front door was opened by the guarding soldiers, "Old Zhou."
"Mhm." Grandpa Zhou's voice was deep and quite imposing.
The two walked inside. The living room was very large, the curtains were drawn, and an old man was sitting on a rattan chair, his hair completely white, and the backs of his hands covered in age spots.
Judging by his age, he was probably over a dozen years older than Grandpa Zhou. Xu Wanning was very curious about who this grandfather actually was.
"You've arrived, sit down." The old man pointed to the sofa, "So this is the granddaughter you newly recognized? She looks truly lovely."
"Thank you, Grandfather." Xu Wanning smiled and thanked him.
Grandpa Zhou pulled Xu Wanning to sit down, "The reason we came this time is to tell you that The Apocalypse is coming."
Xu Wanning didn't expect Grandpa Zhou to be so straightforward; could you at least give people some time to mentally prepare?
The old man looked at them for a long time, "Old Zhou." He patted his hands on his knees, "This joke isn't funny."
Grandpa Zhou said in a low voice, "It's not a joke."
The old man didn't speak, squinting his eyes as he looked at Grandpa Zhou, "Old Zhou, take your granddaughter back. I'll pretend I didn't hear what was said today."
Xu Wanning stood up, stepped forward, and with a wave of her hand, the teacup beside the old man instantly disappeared. With another wave, the teacup returned to its original position.
The old man's hands stopped on his knees, staring blankly at the teacup. The living room was quiet for three seconds before he pushed up his glasses, "Old Zhou, this granddaughter of yours..."
Grandpa Zhou coughed, "This is Space Ability. My granddaughter here returned from after The Apocalypse; it just depends on whether you believe it or not."
The old man stared at Xu Wanning for a while, then picked up the landline beside him and dialed a number, "It's me, someone wants to see you."
It was unclear what was said on the other end.
"I know, you'll understand once you see her." The old man hung up the phone after speaking, "I've called the person in charge of this to come over. You two wait for a moment and have some snacks."
Before long, the nanny brought over some snacks and placed them on the table. Xu Wanning didn't hold back; they looked quite delicious, and since they had been brought out, it wouldn't be polite not to eat.
Grandpa Zhou was even more so; he even asked for a cup of green tea and drank it with great relish.
The two started a discussion about the possibility of The Apocalypse, while Xu Wanning listened silently without interrupting.
Two hours later, the door opened again, and a man wearing a gray jacket walked inβa face Xu Wanning had previously only been able to see on television.
She quickly stood up. She had thought the person coming would just be someone with a slightly higher position, but she hadn't expected it to be the person in charge directly.
The man looked at Xu Wanning, "Old man, is it her?"
The old man nodded, "It's this girl who wants to see you; she has something very important to tell you."
Xu Wanning suppressed her excitement and spread out her hand. The air rippled, and the briefcase the man was holding instantly disappeared. Two seconds later, it landed at the man's feet, "Leader, The Apocalypse is coming."
The leader was stunned, then walked over and sat down, gesturing for her to sit as well. He sighed, "Tell me about it. What is the time?"
Xu Wanning spat out the precise time, "Two and a half months from now, June 25th."
The leader took out paper and a pen and handed them to her, "Tell me specifically, what kind of The Apocalypse is it?"
Xu Wanning took them and wrote while speaking, "On June 25th, at exactly 8:00 AM, Acid Rain will fall on time. Less than an hour later, a large-scale population will fall into a coma. When they wake up, it will be 8:00 AM on June 26th. By then, two-thirds of the people will have mutated into zombies, and among the remaining, one-fifth will awaken a Supernatural ability and become Ability Users, while four-fifths will remain ordinary people."
