47: Chapter 47: A token of love?
Wen Shuyang slapped her forehead hard. "It's no wonder you say that; I really am a total romantic fool."
Song Yunqing tilted her head and leaned in. "What about me? What about me?"
Xu Wanning tapped Song Yunqing's cheek. "You, you have a romantic interest. Guess who? We've already met him."
Met him?
The three of them began to brainstorm. Song Yunqing had been stabbed to death by Wu Na, which meant the romantic interest existed before she was killed. So, it had to be either a classmate or someone from the Fire Station. Who could it be?
They went through everyone they knew, but they couldn't figure out who it was.
Song Yunqing shook Xu Wanning's arm. "Ningning, tell me."
Xu Wanning feigned mystery. "Li Jingran."
Lu Zhiyu's mouth fell open. "It's actually Brother Li?! I never would have guessed."
Wen Shuyang and Song Yunqing were completely bewildered. Who was Li Jingran?
Xu Wanning laughed. "I'll point him out to you next time we see him. But I still want to say, the past life is the past life, and this life is this life. Don't force yourself to be with someone in this life just because of feelings from the last one."
Lu Zhiyu glanced at her. "Ningning, are you saying that if my brother isn't attractive enough to you in this life, you'll dump him later?"
Xu Wanning pinched her chin. "Theoretically, yes. However, I think Lu Chengyue is quite attractive in this life too, so don't worry, sister-in-law."
Lu Zhiyu chuckled. "Okay, sister-in-law!"
They stayed at the shop all day, closed at six in the evening, and headed home carrying Dongdong.
Dongdong was naturally cute and had a sweet mouth, quickly winning over the elders, and was soon off playing with them.
After dinner and a good rest, they began their evening training.
This time, the parents joined in, and even little Dongdong was properly practicing horse stance, holding a small wooden sword.
Song Yunqing took a moment to snap a photo of him and sent it to Gu Xi so she would know Dongdong was safe.
Before going to sleep, Lu Zhiyu received a message from Police Captain Cheng Jingchuan asking them to come by tomorrow to sign for the compensation.
Lu Zhiyu, who had almost forgotten about him, suddenly couldn't sleep. Her mind was filled with thoughts of him. He... he actually looked quite handsome, hehe.
——
"Wake up! Time for morning exercise!" Grandpa Zhou's booming voice rang out in the courtyard.
Xu Wanning got up in a daze. Wuwu, she regretted it; she would rather be at school. Waking up this early was killing her. Wuwu.
Wen Shuyang rolled over with a groan. "I'm so sleepy, I don't want to move. My old arms and legs."
Song Yunqing sat up and started getting dressed. "Get up quickly. If Grandpa Zhou gets angry, we'll have extra training."
Once she said that, even if they didn't want to get up, they had to. Extra training was too brutal.
The four of them hurriedly got dressed and washed up.
Song Yunqing spoke with foam in her mouth. "I'll go watch the shop for a while. Let's leave Dongdong at home today."
Xu Wanning nodded. "Then I'll stay behind to keep him company."
Lu Zhiyu rinsed her mouth. "I'll go sign for the compensation."
Wen Shuyang washed away the foam. "Then I'll go with Qingqing to watch the shop."
After confirming their plans for the day, the four of them rushed out. Jiang Heng, Zhou Ke, and the others were already lined up in the courtyard.
Grandpa Zhou stood at the front. "Everyone is here. Let's begin."
Zhou Ke led everyone in a warm-up, and then they practiced their own routines.
Forty minutes later.
Wen Shuyang slumped over the stone table. "I can't do it anymore. It's only the second day, why does it feel like I've been training for months?"
"Haha, you'll get used to it in a few days. We were the same when we first started training," Jiang Heng and the others chimed in.
"After we eat and rest for a bit, we still have to go to the Gym. Are you guys still going today?"
The four of them exchanged looks and nodded firmly. With their current stamina, they would be a liability in The Apocalypse. They had to start training early.
After resting for an hour, at 8:30 AM, everyone started eating breakfast. Ever since Liu Meilan arrived, their food quality had improved drastically.
She was excellent at cooking for large groups, and combined with the amazing cooking skills of Xu Jingan and Xu Jingping, everyone was always full.
Right after finishing the meal, Xu Wanning's phone rang. Lu Chengyue had sent a message with just two words: [Jacket.]
[It's dry. I'll bring it to you in a bit.] It was Friday today. He said he was off, but it seemed he had no intention of coming back.
[No need.] Lu Chengyue sat in his dormitory. He truly didn't plan on leaving; every time he went out, he had to report it, so he wouldn't go home unless there was something important.
[Hm? Then I'm not returning it.] Xu Wanning didn't understand what he meant. If he didn't need it delivered, why ask? Did he just want to chat with her?
[You, keep it.] Lu Chengyue remained silent for a moment before finally replying.
Xu Wanning snickered. [A token of affection?]
After waiting for a while, Lu Chengyue didn't reply.
Over at the Fire Station, Jiang Yishen had just finished washing up and returned. "Old Lu, why is your face as red as a monkey's butt?!"
Lu Chengyue rolled his eyes at him. "You're the one who looks like a monkey's butt!"
"Old Lu, aren't you going out today? You were running out every few days before. What's up? Is the relationship over?"
Ever since he decided to support Lu Chengyue, Jiang Yishen had told him, and there was no awkwardness between them at all.
Lu Chengyue sighed. "No, it's just that sometimes she says things I can't handle, and I don't know how to respond."
Jiang Yishen pulled a chair over and sat down, taking out his phone to show Lu Chengyue.
"When you don't know what to reply, you can send an emoji. For example, if you're shy, reply with a shy emoji; if you're awkward, send this awkward emoji."
Lu Chengyue looked closely. He had never used emojis before and didn't understand what each one meant, but fortunately, there were descriptions for each one.
Thinking about it, he sent a shy emoji to Xu Wanning.
Xu Wanning had just sat in the car. When she received the message, she almost burst out laughing. Hahaha, she wanted to laugh out loud.
Lu Zhiyu nudged her arm. "What's wrong? Let's go."
Song Yunqing and Wen Shuyang went to the flower shop, while Xu Wanning and Lu Zhiyu went to sign for the money and then to the Gym. Tomorrow, they would open the shop and let Song Yunqing and Wen Shuyang go to the Gym, so nothing would be delayed.
Gu Xi didn't need to stay in the hospital all the time. Once her mother came out of the ICU, someone else could take care of her.
Her father and mother-in-law weren't too old, so they could handle taking care of the patient, and she still had to be responsible for earning money.
Just two or three more days and it should be about done.
Xu Wanning put her phone away and drove to the police station.
When they went in, Lu Zhiyu was still a bit coy, hoping to see Police Captain Cheng Jingchuan, but she didn't see a shadow of him. She then remembered he was a criminal police officer; how could he be here? Sigh.
She couldn't describe her feelings—there was relief, but also disappointment.
Xu Wanning signed the papers, took the money, expressed her thanks, and pulled the dazed Lu Zhiyu outside. "Zhiyu, if you really care about him, then try getting to know him. If you like him, be together; if not, then forget it. You have to at least try so you don't regret it."
Lu Zhiyu blinked. "You're right. I'll go find him this afternoon!"
