60: Why is Chapter 60 so obedient?

Xu Wanning naturally missed him too. "Then let's go find him at noon and have lunch together. I need to take a nap first."

"Okay, okay, okay!" Lu Zhiyu was so happy she almost jumped up.

Xu Wanning was ushered inside by her mom, dad, Second Uncle, and Second Aunt. "You've lost so much weight from exhaustion."

"That's right. You've been pushing yourself for so many days, how could you not lose weight?"

Liu Meilan leaned in. "Ningning, let me make you something delicious. Eat before you sleep."

Xu Wanning nodded. "No need, Auntie Lan. I'll just eat what you made that's in my space. I'm just too tired and can't wait. I'll eat your delicious cooking tonight instead."

Liu Meilan looked at her with heartache. "Alright, hurry and go get some sleep."

Everyone subconsciously lowered their voices. She slept very soundly this time; although it was only for four hours, it was a good rest.

After waking up, washing up, and changing clothes, she followed Lu Zhiyu, who was waiting outside, to the Fire Station.

It was hard enough to coordinate their schedules, so she couldn't miss this opportunity. If she was needed for help again later, she might have to leave once more.

When they got out of the car at the Fire Station, Lu Zhiyu excitedly unbuckled her seatbelt. "My brother said the cafeteria food is good today. They have guobaorou."

"You told your brother we were coming?" She had been hoping to surprise him.

"Yeah. I was afraid that if he didn't know you were coming, he might leave, and then we'd have made a wasted trip."

"When I said I was coming to see him at noon, he specifically asked if you were coming too. I bet if I'd said you weren't, he wouldn't have let me come."

Lu Zhiyu pouted, looking very 'unhappy'.

Xu Wanning linked arms with her and walked inside. "Alright, stop being jealous. Your brother cares about you a lot too."

"It's different." Lu Zhiyu thought for a moment. "The way my brother looks at you is different from how he looks at me. It's like he wants to get close but is afraid of losing you. That's the feeling."

Xu Wanning smiled. "A partner and a sister are definitely different. You will always be his sister, but I might not always be his partner."

Lu Zhiyu curled her lip. "You're right, but I hope you can be with him forever."

When they arrived at the cafeteria, they spotted Lu Chengyue sitting alone in a corner at a glance. In front of him were six dishes, all of which were Xu Wanning's favorites.

He must have been worried that the food would run out by the time they arrived, so he had gotten the dishes in advance and was just about to find something to cover them.

Lu Chengyue had just stood up, but upon seeing them, he stopped his movements and waited for them to come over.

On the way over, Lu Chengyue's comrades who knew them were greeting them, while those who didn't were watching with curiosity and asking the people next to them.

When they reached Lu Chengyue's side, having not seen each other for several days, both of them wanted to look at each other but felt a bit shy.

They kept glancing at each other from the corners of their eyes. When their gazes met, they shyly looked away. "Why did you order so much?"

"I ordered it for you two. I can eat now." Lu Chengyue pushed the guobaorou in front of her. "Eat more."

Lu Zhiyu grumbled from the side, "Forget your sister once you have a partner. I love eating this too, hmph."

Lu Chengyue gave her an embarrassed look. "Ningning has lost weight from exhaustion these past few days, don't fight her for it."

Lu Zhiyu had just wanted to tease him, but with him saying that, she got even more annoyed. "Brother, you favor your girl over your sister! When we get back, I'm going to have Mom beat you!"

Xu Wanning smiled; she knew Lu Zhiyu didn't have any ill intent and didn't feel uncomfortable.

Xu Wanning picked up a piece of guobaorou and gave it to Lu Zhiyu. "Eat."

Lu Zhiyu happily picked it up and ate it. "Hehe, Sister-in-law is the best."

At this "Sister-in-law," Xu Wanning hadn't reacted much yet, but Lu Chengyue blushed first. "Don't, don't call me that."

Lu Zhiyu rolled her eyes. "I'm calling you that, I'm calling you that."

Xu Wanning picked up a piece for Lu Chengyue too. "Eat."

"You eat, I don't..." Lu Chengyue thought there wasn't much guobaorou and wanted to prioritize Ningning eating it.

"Eat." Xu Wanning's tone was very firm.

He glanced at her, picked up his chopsticks, and ate it.

Lu Zhiyu was dumbfounded from the side. "Back home, we used to tell him to eat, and he'd never listen. You tell him to eat, and he just does it? Why is he so obedient?!"

Xu Wanning smiled as she looked at Lu Chengyue, who had buried his head. "Because your way of speaking isn't right."

"What's not right about it?" Lu Zhiyu didn't think there was anything wrong with her way.

Xu Wanning smiled. "You have to say 'Eat' directly. You can't ask 'Are you going to eat?'"

Lu Zhiyu thought about it and picked up some broccoli for him. "Brother, eat."

Lu Chengyue glanced at her. "I can eat it myself."

Lu Zhiyu was devastated. "Sister-in-law, look, he's treating us differently!"

Lu Chengyue's ears turned even redder, and he buried his head in his rice.

Xu Wanning kicked him under the table. When he looked over, confused, she smiled at him.

The smile left Lu Chengyue completely stunned; he couldn't even remember to eat. After a moment, he spoke with shifty eyes. "You, you stop smiling."

"Why?" Her shoe tip brushed against his lower leg.

He jerked his leg back. "It's easy to choke."

Xu Wanning stretched her leg out, leaving him nowhere to hide, and looked at him with seductive, watery eyes. "Are you going to choke, or am I?"

Lu Chengyue's face turned even redder, but he didn't dodge.

Lu Zhiyu couldn't stand it anymore. "You two, watch it!"

Xu Wanning pulled her leg back. Fine, fine, she'd watch it.

After the meal, Lu Zhiyu made an excuse to go to the restroom, and Xu Wanning and Lu Chengyue stood at the doorway waiting for her.

"Do you still have to train later?" They must have done a lot of work during this period, and having to train on top of that—it was truly exhausting.

"Yeah, I have to maintain my physical fitness. I'll be climbing the rope in a bit." He pointed to the building next to them.

Xu Wanning had seen it once before when she came. She admired how they could climb so high relying on just a single rope; she couldn't do it herself.

Xu Wanning looked at him expectantly. "Then I'll watch you finish climbing before I leave."

Lu Chengyue glanced at the rope over there. "I'll climb it for you now; it wouldn't be appropriate later."

Having family members present during formal training wasn't serious enough and could easily lead to mistakes. For a Firefighter, even the slightest mistake could be fatal.

"Okay." Xu Wanning understood his implication and agreed immediately. If she'd known, she wouldn't have said she wanted to watch.

Lu Chengyue took off his jacket, walked under the rope, gripped it with both hands, suspended his body in the air, and began to climb up.

His movements were agile, his hands and feet coordinated, rising steadily. It didn't take long for him to climb to the top of the four-story-high rope.

When he reached the very top, he looked down. The setting sun bloomed with golden light behind him.

A while later, he slid down the rope. When he landed, he was breathing slightly heavily, with a thin layer of sweat on his forehead.

Xu Wanning stared at him, somewhat entranced. A man really does shine in his own field of expertise.

"Does it look good?" Lu Chengyue curled the corners of his mouth.

Xu Wanning nodded firmly. "It looks good."

His ear tips turned red as he turned his face away, wiping the sweat from his forehead.

"A-Yue." Xu Wanning stared straight at him.

"Yeah?" Lu Chengyue turned back.

"What were you thinking about when you were looking at me from up there just now?" She felt that when he looked at her, his eyes were very deep, containing too many emotions.

Lu Chengyue was silent for a moment. "I was thinking, if one day you were in danger, I would definitely reach your side even faster."

Xu Wanning stood on tiptoe and leaned in. "And then what?"
