37: Chapter 37 The Apocalypse is Coming, and It's Not a Drill!
Xu Wanning only highlighted the key points. As she spoke, she glanced at the leader to see if she believed her.
"Continue." The leader had a notebook by her side and followed along, taking notes.
Xu Wanning continued, "At first, zombies cannot see; they track humans by the scent of the living. After being bitten by a zombie, the vast majority of people will mutate into zombies, but there is a small probability of awakening as Ability Users;"
"Ability Users are immune to the zombie virus, unless they are injected with a massive amount of zombie virus at once, in which case they will mutate into zombies."
The leader took notes rapidly, showing absolutely no signs of disbelief.
Feeling respected, Xu Wanning continued, "In the second year of The Apocalypse, a heatwave hit, with temperatures fluctuating between 40 and 70 degrees. People could only go out when it was around 40 degrees; at other temperatures, they would die shortly after going outside."
"In the third year, the heatwave ended, and in the middle of the year, another Acid Rain fell. Most people were infected again and became zombies. I also died after being swarmed by a large number of zombies following this Acid Rain."
Xu Wanning finished speaking; the rest was up to the leader's decision. She hadn't expected Grandpa Zhou to be so impressive, actually knowing the leader's relative. Tsk, tsk, tsk, what a powerful connection.
The leader compared the paper Xu Wanning had written on with her own notes, then put both documents into her bag. "Miss Xu, come with me; I need your help."
Xu Wanning stood up. "Of course." She figured they were going to inform more people.
Grandpa Zhou wanted to follow, but was held back by the old man. "Rest assured, I guarantee she will be fine."
Xu Wanning smiled at Grandpa Zhou and followed the leader out.
There were many bodyguards outside the main gate. They got into an understated black car and drove out of the suburbs.
"Child, don't be afraid. If this is true, you are the savior of our China, and all Chinese people will thank you."
Xu Wanning nodded. "I'm not afraid. I'm just worried that even if we know in advance, we won't be able to change the outcome. There are so many natural disasters. After the heatwave, there might be extreme cold, floods, earthquakes, and so on. We must prepare for all of this in advance."
The leader hummed in agreement. "That is the topic we are going to discuss at the meeting."
The car drove all the way to a very solemn building. As Xu Wanning walked in, she subconsciously stood up straight with her head held high.
The entire conference room was three times larger than their school auditorium, with rows of seats stacked upwards. It was already completely full, and looking around, many were faces that could only be seen on the news.
She followed the leader step by step to the main seat, with hundreds of eyes fixed on her.
The leader spoke, her voice not loud, yet everyone could hear it. "I called everyone here for an extremely important matter." She paused. "The Apocalypse is coming, this is not a drill!"
There was an immediate buzz from the audience; some people stood up and then sat back down.
The leader continued, "This young lady, Wanning, has returned from three years into The Apocalypse. Let us listen to what she has to say."
She stepped aside, giving Xu Wanning space to demonstrate.
At this moment, nothing was more persuasive than demonstrating her Space Ability. With a wave of her hand, the nameplates on the podium disappeared one by one, and two seconds later, they appeared on the long table in the middle.
The conference hall went silent; someone gasped.
She retracted the nameplates into her space again, then placed them back in front of them.
"June 25th, 8:00 AM, Acid Rain falls..." Blah, blah, blah. She repeated what she had said to the leader.
This time, she added some things, for example, about Supernatural ability. "Supernatural ability is divided into Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, Earth, Mental, Healing, Space, Light, Ice, Speed, Strength, Corrosion, and Wind. Of course, these are just what we know; there might be other abilities."
"Supernatural ability is ranked from low to high: F, E, D, C, B, A, S, SS, SSS. Depending on the level, the duration of use varies. F is the lowest and can only be used for half an hour, while SSS can be used for eight hours..." Blah, blah, blah...
"Space Ability is relatively special; depending on the level, the size of the space varies..." Blah, blah, blah...
She spoke bit by bit, and everyone below recorded it bit by bit, their pen tips trembling slightly. By the time she finished, only the sound of breathing remained in the conference hall.
The leader walked back to the front. "The situation is clear. Now let us discuss countermeasures. Also, there is one more point: The Apocalypse might happen earlier, as the return of Nickname might trigger a butterfly effect."
A man sitting in the first row stood up to speak. "Food, the top priority is food."
Another man wearing glasses continued, "The seed bank and grain reserves must be protected immediately."
A man in military uniform in the back row stood up. "Disaster relief; the military needs to be deployed in advance."
The man who spoke first opened his mouth again. "How do we notify the ordinary people? If we just say The Apocalypse is coming, what if there's chaos? Also, for our compatriots abroad, we must find a reason to bring them back."
The leader raised her hand to calm them down. "One by one. Let's talk about food reserves first..."
Xu Wanning stepped aside and listened silently.
Everyone was still discussing, their voices getting louder. The results were also very obvious; they had already preliminarily formulated a plan.
Finally, the leader looked back at Xu Wanning. "Miss Xu, you can live your life normally after you go back. Leave the rest to us. If we need your help, I will contact you again. Let's exchange contact information."
After exchanging phone numbers with the leader, Xu Wanning still couldn't quite believe it. Who would have thought of this before!
The leader looked at her very kindly. "I will send someone to take you back to pick up Grandpa Zhou, and then you can go back peacefully and continue your studies."
"Okay." Great, why does she feel so relieved?
The leader personally escorted her to the door. "Send someone to take her to the old man's villa."
"Yes." The bodyguards outside acknowledged the order.
Three minutes later, Xu Wanning left by car. She looked back; she probably wouldn't have many chances to come here in the future.
The driver didn't speak, and the bodyguards didn't speak either. Xu Wanning took out her phone and reported that she was safe in the family group chat and the alliance communication group.
Lu Chengyue's message came very quickly, [Glad you're okay, waiting for you at home.]
The messages in the group chat were also scrolling non-stop, very rapidly; she couldn't even see what was written before they were pushed up.
Returning to the villa area, Grandpa Zhou and the old man were having lunch. It was very simple, with no hint of luxury.
"Nickname, come quickly and eat with us." The old man waved her over. "Don't be polite."
Xu Wanning was indeed hungry. Grandpa Zhou was eating, so she didn't stand on ceremony. She sat down, and a moment later, the nanny served her a bowl of rice.
She said in the group chat that she would be back a bit later, so as not to make everyone worry.
The meal was quiet. Xu Wanning thought the old man had no more questions, but after the meal, it was as if he had opened a chatterbox, and he had many questions.
Xu Wanning answered them one by one. Anyway, the more he knew, the more he would tell the leader later.
Grandpa Zhou listened from the side, thinking about how to make their home impregnable afterward.
By the time they left, the sunset was about to fade. The old man still wanted to keep them for dinner, but Xu Wanning refused. After all, she had already told everyone, and since she hadn't returned yet, everyone must be very worried.
