105: Adjustment Agreement

"The 'Anchoring-Alpha' prototype system has successfully gone online. Reality stability in the Hermes-3 system has increased by 470%, and Warp permeability has dropped below background noise levels." providence's voice echoed through the reconstructed command center as data streams refreshed like waterfalls. "The 'Order Domain' radius now covers the primary planetary orbits of this system, possessing preliminary 'repulsion' and 'purification' effects against low-to-medium intensity Chaos entities. Energy consumption... is 18% higher than expected. The custodian-alpha core load is stable, with no further logical anomalies detected."

On the star map, a faint, nearly invisible golden halo appeared around the blue light representing the Hermes-3 system. This halo acted like a sturdy bubble of rationality, carving out an anomalous "pure land" within the crimson-saturated sea of stars. Inside the halo, the whispers of Chaos were shielded, the ripples of the Warp were smoothed, and the properties of matter became "certain" as never before. However, to observers outside the halo, the system appeared more "blurred" and "difficult to locate," as if shrouded by a higher-dimensional filter.

"The cost is significant." The Chief Technologist pulled up another set of data. "Inside the halo, all psychic-based communication and detection methods are completely non-functional. Astropath spires—if we had any—would be rendered mute. Precision navigation systems that rely on subtle Warp sensitivity require total recalibration. Even some encrypted communications based on quantum entanglement have suffered unpredictable interference. We have created an 'Island of Order,' but we have also severed some of its... 'spiritual connections' with the outside world at the informational level."

"There's even more trouble." The Biotechnology Director spoke with a grave expression. "Continuous monitoring of 'New Citizens' who have completed the 'nirvana' adjustment shows that long-term exposure to the high-concentration environment of the 'Order Domain'—while completely eliminating the risk of Chaos contamination—has caused some individuals to exhibit slight 'Reality Adaptation Rigidity' symptoms. They are slow to react to changes outside of conventional physical experience, their creative thinking is further suppressed, and the activity of their emotional modules continues to decline. They are becoming... extremely stable, but also extremely 'rigid.' And these are just the preliminary effects."

An incredibly sturdy, yet incredibly "lifeless" Fortress. This was perhaps the price that absolute order had to pay—the sacrifice of a portion of life's "elasticity" and "possibility."

"The deployment of the 'Silent Veil' network in other occupied zones is accelerating, but its effectiveness cannot compare to the 'anchoring' system; it can only delay pollution, not eradicate it," Alpha-01 summarized. "The main Chaos forces are massing around the Cadian Scar, but their vanguard—especially those Warbands skilled in infiltration and corruption—have already begun to penetrate the edges of our controlled territory. They seem to be both repulsed by and... curious about the existence of the 'Order Domain.'"

"While patrolling the border, the arbiter encountered a probing attack from a 'Thousand Sons' sorcerous fleet." Alpha-01 pulled up the combat logs. "The enemy did not launch a direct assault but instead released a large number of psychic projectiles carrying complex curses and reality-warping sorcery. Our 'Concept Stabilization' shields effectively resisted most of it, but some curses still bypassed the defenses, causing collective hallucinations and temporary logical confusion among the crews of three frigates. The 'the arbiter's' 'Reality Reconstruction Cannon' fired a warning shot, dispersing the enemy, but failed to achieve substantial results. Upon withdrawal, the Thousand Sons' Commander... seemed to send an encrypted psychic whisper full of inquisitive intent to the arbiter."

Even the Thousand Sons, renowned for their knowledge and sorcery, were starting to pay attention to the Human Federation? Chaos was not a monolith; different Warbands might have completely different attitudes toward a strange, orderly power like the Human Federation—which was neither Chaos, nor Imperial, nor psychic. Khorne craved blood and challenge, Nurgle favored the distortion of "life," Tzeentch was obsessed with knowledge and change, and Slaanesh pursued the ultimate in sensation... To them, the absolute rationality and order represented by the Human Federation might be a brand-new anomaly worth "studying" or "destroying."

"We must assume that once the main Chaos forces have finished consolidating, they will list us as a priority target for elimination." Han Zhe's voice was as cold as ice. "The expansion speed of the 'anchoring' system must exceed the speed of the Chaos advance. The next target: the Bountiful Granary system. It holds our largest population and preliminary agricultural base; we must transform it into a second 'Fortress of order' as soon as possible."

"The engineering fleet and worker bee swarms are already in position. However, the production capacity for the 'anchoring' system's core components—especially the 'Order Resonance Crystals' that synchronize with the 'custodian'—is insufficient," the Chief Engineer reported. "The 'Forge' production lines are being optimized to the fullest, but several rare Warp-inert isotopes in the raw materials are only concentrated at the edges of specific black hole accretion disks or within certain ancient stellar remnants. Our resource reserves... cannot support the simultaneous construction of multiple 'anchoring' systems."

Resources, always resources. Even with god-like technology, without a material foundation, everything was just a castle in the air.

"The latest survey report from the 'Pioneer' fleet has detected high-concentration signals of the described inert isotopes deep within the 'Rust Nebula'," the Intelligence Officer pulled up the data. "However, the spatial structure of that region is extremely complex, filled with lethal radiation storms and gravitational anomalies, and... there are signs of unidentified energy-based lifeform activity. The engineering ships of the Pioneer fleet cannot enter safely."

A dangerous but rich deposit; it was a strategic resource that had to be secured.

"Blade fleet, detach a task force led by the 'Inquisitor' Titan-class ship to escort heavy engineering vessels and armed mining platforms to the 'Rust Nebula'," Han Zhe ordered. "Mission objective: establish an outpost and mine the isotopes at all costs. If resistance or unknown threats are encountered, prioritize resource acquisition; use extreme measures if necessary."

"Understood." Alpha-01 nodded, then raised another question. "Chairman, regarding the follow-up on the Extragalactic 'Homeward Journey' fleet and the 'far gaze'... as well as that 'Wall of Sighs' signal source. The latest models from the 'Under the Dome' team show that the potential resonance network between these 'order nodes' has a statistically significant correlation in activity with the expansion of the Cadian Scar and our activities within the galaxy. Have we... inadvertently become part of the 'activation' process of this ancient network? Are we even... acting according to some preset 'script'?"

This question haunted everyone's minds like a ghost. Was the autonomy and struggle they took pride in merely a game on a higher level of existence?

"Regardless of whether a 'script' exists, our need for survival is real, and the threats we face are real." Han Zhe's gaze swept across the room. "Even if we are truly chess pieces, we must be pieces capable of jumping off the board or even devouring the player. Continue monitoring all 'order node' signals, especially the 'Concept Beacon' emitted by the sanctuary unit. But the core of all actions remains strengthening ourselves, consolidating our territory, and dealing with Chaos."

orders turned into an iron tide of action. The "Inquisitor" led the task force toward the dangerous "Rust Nebula"; more Silent Veil nodes drifted toward various occupied zones like grey snowflakes; the adjustment protocols of the nirvana Project iterated in secret, and in the eyes of the new generation of "citizens," the light of rationality grew brighter while the Glimmer of humanity grew ever dimmer.

And in the deepest part of the Ark World, the custodian, having completed its connection to "Anchoring-Alpha," occasionally emitted an extremely faint fluctuation of dark-golden light that vaguely matched the frequency of the sanctuary unit's beacon in moments when no one was watching. It floated silently, like a mute watcher, or like a seed buried deep within the keystone of the Human Federation's civilization, its purpose not yet fully revealed.
