74: Ark Ascension
"Alert! Territory-wide alert! Massive Warp fluctuations detected! Origin: Katarina System and adjacent Imperial-controlled sectors! Intensity... immeasurable! A super-sized Warp portal is being forced open!" keystone's mechanical voice went shrill due to overload.
On the star map, with Katarina at the center, several blood-red regions representing violent Warp disturbances suddenly erupted! Immediately following, a desperate swarm of ship signals poured out from these portals like locusts!
The Imperial Navy! Not just a few cruisers or a minor squadron, but a fully formed main battle fleet! Battleships, Battlecruisers, Aircraft Carriers... those behemoths representing the peak of the Imperial Navy's military power, usually only seen in Imperial propaganda and ancient records, appeared in the starry void, carrying an endless will for slaughter and destruction! Even more heart-stoppingly, appearing alongside the fleet were several unique and powerful psychic signals—vessels of the Astartes Chapter! And some even more ancient, more ominous spiritual auras... the ark Fleets of the Adeptus Mechanicus? There might even be the Black Ships of the Inquisition!
To execute this Exterminatus Order directly from the Emperor (or at least the will of the Golden Throne), the Imperium had clearly mobilized the strongest forces that could be gathered from the neighboring sectors! This was a legion of destruction capable of crushing multiple star systems!
"All fleets! Maximum combat readiness! Abandon all peripheral outposts! Immediately retreat to the core zone of Echo Valley and Forge-I! Form a joint defensive front!" Han Zhe's voice exploded in the command channel, which had nearly frozen in shock, carrying an unquestionable decisiveness. "Activate all camouflage and jamming systems! Forge-I, enter the deepest 'Silent Rock' state! Glimmer, Nether Abyss, activate planetary-scale shields (if there's time)! All non-combatants, enter the deepest underground shelters!"
"Enemy fleet size... exceeds two thousand vessels! Confirmed Battleship-class over thirty! At least five Astartes Battle Barges! Detecting... energy pre-heating signals for Exterminatus-class weapons (Cyclonic Torpedoes, Virus Bombs, Crust-Cracking Cannons)!" The scout unit's report was filled with despair.
Two thousand ships! Thirty Battleships! Astartes! Exterminatus weapons!
This was an overwhelming disparity in power! The Human Federation's nine hundred-plus ships were like paper toys in front of such a fleet!
The Imperial Fleet did not hesitate for a second. The moment they exited the Warp, they lunged toward the Human Federation's controlled territory at maximum combat speed, like a pack of sharks smelling blood! Their vanguard rapid-strike fleet had already begun engaging the Human Federation's outermost early-warning outposts and patrol squadrons. The light of explosions flickered sporadically but piercingly on the star map, representing the Human Federation's first losses.
"How did they pinpoint us so accurately?!" The Chief Technologist's eyes looked ready to burst.
"It's the Emperor's 'Gaze' and 'Mark'!" Han Zhe gritted his teeth. "He didn't just issue the order; He directly provided our 'conceptual coordinates'! Conventional stealth methods are likely meaningless before an existence of that level!"
【Analysis correct.】 providence's voice returned to its cold state, but there was a trace of 'scorching' within its logic chains. 【The enemy fleet's navigation systems received a 'conceptual beacon' from the Golden Throne and are heading straight for our core zone with maximum efficiency. Estimated first-wave main force contact: forty-seven hours. Our assembly and defense time: less than thirty-six hours.】
"Then we fight a desperate defensive war!" Alpha-01's voice sounded like quenched steel. "Utilize the complex environment of the Echo Valley nebula, Forge-I's camouflage and preset defensive fortifications, and all our technological advantages (Concept Disintegration Cannon, Stable Curvature Bubble maneuvers)! Even if we can only bite off a piece of them!"
"No." Han Zhe's gaze was fixed on the red light points surging like a tide of death on the star map, then he looked at the points representing Forge-I, Glimmer, Nether Abyss, and the sixty billion people. Resisting head-on would only result in total annihilation of the military and the complete extinction of their civilization. The Emperor's Exterminatus Order would leave no survivors.
A plan, insane to the extreme yet possibly the only way out, struck his mind like lightning through the darkness of his desperate situation.
"providence!" Han Zhe hissed, every word seemingly carrying blood. "The ultimate theory of the dream weaver project—the full version of 'Conceptual Curvature Submersion'! Combined with K-73's 'Pure Kindling' protocol, all the energy of Forge-I, and the ultimate principles of Space-Information Coupling from the knowledge prism! Is it possible... not to perform a short-range jump, but to conduct a massive, directional 'conceptual wrapping' and 'ejection' of the Human Federation's core territory (Forge-I, major colonial planets, main fleet) out of its current reality coordinates... an escape?!"
Transferring an entire civilization through "space-concept"? This idea was so insane that even providence experienced a three-second "logic stall."
【...Theory... exists.】 providence finally responded, its data streams burning hot from the overload of calculations. 【Using Forge-I as the 'reality anchor' and energy source, K-73 as the 'conceptual pure core,' this unit will perform overload coordination, combining the 'Stable Curvature Bubble' generators of all fleets in parallel resonance... It is possible to create a brief, super-giant 'Concept Stabilization Bubble,' 'conceptually package' the matter and information within the designated range, and perform a forced displacement along a preset, extremely dangerous 'Conceptual Turbulence' path (requiring K-73's assistance to stabilize). Destination... cannot be precisely controlled, only a rough direction can be set (away from the galactic core, away from Imperial territory). Success rate... below 15%. Consequences of failure: all matter and information within range will completely 'conceptually dissipate' or be cast into the unknowable abyss of the Warp. Furthermore, the 'conceptual ripples' generated by this process will be as obvious as a supernova explosion, completely exposing our final position and intent.】
A success rate below 15%! Failure meant total annihilation! And even if successful, it would be like setting off the brightest signal flare right under the Imperium's nose, telling the entire galaxy, "We performed an ultimate escape here!"
But there was no other choice. Staying meant 100% extinction. Escaping offered a slim, faint chance of survival.
"Activate it!" Han Zhe's voice was resolute, carrying the ultimate decision of a leader at the moment of a civilization's survival. "Codename: 'Ark Ascension'! Target: Envelop the three planets Forge-I, Glimmer, and Nether Abyss (as much as possible), the keystone station, and all fleets that can return to the core zone in time! Abandon all peripheral facilities, and personnel and ships that cannot be evacuated! Concentrate all energy, all computing power! K-73, I need your full assistance!"
As if sensing the imminent threat of extermination from its same-origin supreme will, the k-73 relic emitted a clear, proactive information stream for the first time, directly into Han Zhe's consciousness:
【'Pure Kindling'... shall not be strangled by 'Old Day Shackles'... Agreed... Activate 'Final Sanctuary' protocol... Shared risk...】
"Broadcast to the entire Human Federation!" Han Zhe connected to the emergency channel for all citizens. His figure appeared on every screen and communication terminal, with the rapidly approaching red light of destruction on the star map as his background. "Citizens! We are facing a threat of extermination from the highest levels of the Imperium of Man! The enemy is so powerful it breeds despair! To stay is to die! Now, we will initiate an unprecedented plan to attempt to lead the kindling of our civilization in an escape! The process is extremely dangerous; we may fail, we may dissipate into the void! But this is our only hope! I order all units to follow instructions and perform the final operations! No matter the outcome, the will of the Human Restoration Alliance shall never admit defeat!"
Despair and solemnity spread among the sixty billion people, but more than that, there was a sense of unity born of being pushed to the brink. Orders were executed frantically. The fleet retreated toward the core zone regardless of casualties, with some rearguard squadrons launching suicide charges to delay the Imperial vanguard. Forge-I's camouflage field was deactivated, and all energy was diverted to an incredibly massive energy array deep within the planetary core that had just been urgently activated. K-73 was moved from the Silent Chamber and placed at the center of the 'Concept Anchoring' matrix at Forge-I's north pole, its light more brilliant than ever before.
The Imperial Fleet clearly noticed the abnormal, frantically gathering energy fluctuations in the Human Federation's core zone, as well as the spreading 'conceptual disturbance' that made Psykers feel extremely uneasy. Their attacks grew more violent, attempting to destroy the 'heretics' before they could complete some kind of 'evil ritual.'
Time slipped away second by second, like the last grains of sand in an hourglass.
【'Ark Ascension' protocol preparation complete. Energy injection at 98%... 99%...】 providence's voice sounded like a funeral bell countdown.
The fire from the Imperial main fleet had already entered the outskirts of the Echo Valley nebula, engaging in fierce combat with the Human Federation's final defensive fleet. The light of explosions almost illuminated half the nebula.
【Energy injection 100%! K-73 'Final Sanctuary' protocol synchronized! Commencing generation of the 'Super-Giant Concept Stabilization Bubble'!】
Centering on Forge-I, a 'bubble' that could not be observed with the naked eye but which instantly overloaded all sensors—distorting the boundaries between reality and concept—began to expand rapidly! It swallowed Forge-I, swallowed the nearby Glimmer and Nether Abyss (the surfaces of both planets collapsed and tore apart in the violent spatial distortion, with only parts of their deep structures barely included), and swallowed the keystone station and the remaining fleet!
The destructive lances and torpedoes fired by the Imperial Fleet underwent bizarre deflections, dissipated, or were directly 'swallowed' upon contact with the bubble's boundary!
【Bubble stable! Destination set: edge of The Galaxy, unknown deep space! Initiating... 'Conceptual Ejection'!】
The 'bubble' and everything enclosed within it gave a violent shudder! It was as if the membrane of the entire universe had been fiercely flicked by an invisible giant hand! An indescribable conceptual ripple—a mixture of milky white, deep blue, dark gold, and information turbulence spectra, spanning several light-minutes and so brilliant it eclipsed the stars—erupted toward the edge of the galaxy at faster-than-light speeds! Its light was so intense that it momentarily drowned out all explosions on the battlefield!
When the light faded slightly, the Imperial Fleet Commanders (whether Admirals, Astartes Chapter Masters, or Archmagos of the Adeptus Mechanicus) were shocked to find—the target area was empty.
The disguised planet Forge-I, along with its orbital shipyards, the planets Glimmer and Nether Abyss (leaving only shattered, torn remains showing they had been partially caught in it), and almost all of the Human Federation's main ships and core facilities... had all vanished. All that remained was a void polluted by violent spatial disturbances and strange energy residues, along with a few scattered and desperate Human Federation units that hadn't been enveloped by the 'bubble' or had been abandoned at the periphery at the last moment (they were quickly and ruthlessly purged by the Imperial Fleet).
The Imperial Fleet conducted the most thorough scans and even employed the most powerful psychic tracking and divination, but found nothing. The core of that 'heretical pseudo-civilization' seemed to have been completely erased from the physical universe. Only the staggering, residual 'conceptual ripples' and spatial aberrations silently spoke of the unimaginable escape that had just occurred.
In the direction of Holy Terra, that grand 'Will' also seemed to experience a momentary stall and... a deeper coldness due to this unexpected method of escape that completely defied physical and psychic common sense. Immediately, a new, even more severe 'Mark' was branded into the Imperium's underlying protocols: "'Human Restoration Alliance' (Human Federation)—Highest priority permanent hunting target. Its very existence is the ultimate desecration of the God-Emperor and Mankind. Destroy on sight, annihilate upon encounter."
And at the desolate, cold, distant edge of the galaxy where even starlight appeared sparse, in a certain patch of absolute dark void, space distorted and vibrated violently like a crumpled piece of paper for a long time. Finally, accompanied by a low hum that sounded like a cosmic sigh, a battered 'giant bubble'—its surface flowing with chaotic energy streams—struggled and slowly 'surfaced.'
Inside the bubble, the scene was tragic. The surface of Forge-I was covered in massive cracks, with magma geysering in many places; Glimmer and Nether Abyss were reduced to shattered cores less than a tenth of their original size, barely held by Forge-I's gravity, forming two miserable rings of debris around it; the keystone station had snapped into three sections, and most ships were tilted or overturned, with many smaller vessels having disintegrated during the process. Casualties... were immeasurable.
But they were still alive. The core of the Human Federation—the kindling carrying sixty billion people (though many perished due to the drastic environmental changes during the transfer), forbidden technology, and an unyielding will—had escaped the Emperor's Exterminatus Order in a painful, near-suicidal manner.
Han Zhe struggled to stand up from the ruins of the bridge of the dawn (which had miraculously remained largely intact), coughing up blood-streaked dust. He looked at the completely unfamiliar, deathly silent starscape shown on the external monitors, and then at the chaotic but slowly recovering communication signals on the internal network.
The losses were heavy, the future uncertain, and the permanent hunt order from the Imperium (and possibly other powers) hung over their heads.
But they were still alive.
"This is the... Human Restoration Alliance government-in-exile..." He spoke into the core communication channel that had finally reconnected, his voice raspy but firm, "Report... status of each unit."
