79: Ark World
“‘far gaze’ outfitting progress 98.7%, final system joint debugging initiated. Ultra-steady-state curvature bubble generator passed limit load tests, closed-loop ecosystem ‘Eden’ module self-maintenance simulation run exceeded one thousand standard days without decay.” The report from the Chief Technologist (a third-generation young elite cultivated under the ‘Rebirth Protocol’) carried an irrepressible excitement. “All preset deep space experimental equipment payloads are in place, including the improved ‘Zero-Point Energy Resonant Deep Space Detection Array’, ‘Reality Structure Long Baseline Interferometer’, and... the ‘Prophet-class’ autonomous exploration drone hive equipped with providence’s ‘Deep Space Adaptive Logic Sub-unit’.”
Han Zhe stood before the observation deck of the core bridge of the ‘far gaze’. There were no dense control consoles like those of a traditional bridge; only several streamlined information interfaces and a massive central holographic sphere displaying all-dimensional data from both inside and outside the ship in real-time. Outside the porthole was the top-secret dock deep within ‘Forge-I’, reinforced and disguised through multiple layers of ‘Reality Weaving’. The lighting was soft, and countless mechanical arms, like attentive waiters, were performing the final dressing for this lone ship about to embark on a long journey.
The ‘far gaze’ itself was less a warship and more a mobile academy, a condensed civilization seed bank, and an ultimate deep space probe. Its armament was limited to the most basic point-defense systems and concealment measures; the vast majority of its space and energy were allocated to scientific equipment, ecological cycles, resource regeneration, and the ‘Ultra-Steady-State Curvature Bubble-Zero-Point Energy’ combined propulsion and life-support system that could theoretically support it sailing alone in the intergalactic void for several centuries.
“Selection of the captain and core crew is complete.” The image of Alpha-01 (who, although having stepped down from the post of Commander-in-Chief to serve as a strategic advisor in the second line, remained as vigorous as ever) lit up beside him. “The captaincy will be held by the former ‘Ghost Fleet’ Commander, Lin Wei (fourth generation of the ‘Rebirth Protocol’, who performed excellently in multiple covert operations and reconnaissance of the ‘Graveyard of Ten Thousand Races’). The crew totals three hundred people, all of whom are top experts in various fields or elites who have passed rigorous psychological and physiological tests; all have voluntarily signed the ‘beyond the horizon’ indefinite mission agreement.”
Han Zhe’s gaze swept over Lin Wei’s file—calm, decisive, possessing rare spatial intuition and crisis management skills, she was a standout of the Human Federation’s new generation. “Tell her that her mission is not conquest, nor flight, but witnessing and passing on. No matter what is discovered, no matter what is encountered, the ‘far gaze’ and her crew are the eyes of the Human Federation looking into deep space. Safety first, but... exploration never stops.”
“Understood.” Alpha-01 nodded. “Additionally, the latest report from the Pioneer Front: after the ‘Graveyard of Ten Thousand Races’ incident, the frequency of unknown power activities around our operational area has increased. Besides the confirmed ‘Haak’ xenos, we have also monitored suspected Eldar pirate fast vessels skimming the edges, as well as... two new, small-scale Tyranids biological signals. The situation within The Galaxy / Milky Way seems to be becoming more... active and crowded.”
Internal troubles and external threats had never truly departed. However, the Human Federation was no longer what it once was.
“Order the fleets of the Pioneer Front to maintain the highest alert but avoid active provocation. Our strategy remains covert development and accumulating strength. Regarding the newly appeared Tyranid signals, a rapid response fleet can be dispatched for preventive elimination; it must be thoroughly purified to prevent them from establishing outposts or attracting larger swarms,” Han Zhe instructed. “At the same time, strengthen monitoring toward the direction of the Imperial domain. I always feel... that the ‘gaze’ from the Golden Throne will not forever ignore the subtle changes in this ‘buffer zone’.”
“The ‘beyond the horizon’ project will execute the ‘far gaze’ setting sail ceremony in thirty standard hours according to the preset schedule,” providence’s cold voice rang out directly. 【All pre-launch checklists complete. Preliminary deep space flight paths have been injected into the ‘Prophet’ sub-units. Wishing... success.】
Thirty hours later, deep within ‘Forge-I’, the ‘gate’ of the disguised dock slid open quietly, revealing a processed background simulating a natural starry sky. The ‘far gaze’ was entirely pitch-black and non-reflective, like a fragment of the void cut out, silently sliding into outer space. There was no grand send-off, no stirring speech—only brief confirmation commands and blessings over the highest-level encrypted channel.
“‘far gaze’, setting sail.”
“May knowledge and the stars be with you.”
A faint blue Glimmer lit up at the stern, a sign of the ‘Ultra-Steady-State Curvature Bubble’ activating. Without violent spatial distortion or blinding light, the ‘far gaze’ was like a drop of ink merging into water; under the gaze of observation equipment, its presence rapidly faded and blurred, eventually disappearing completely from the range of conventional sensors, leaving behind only an extremely faint, hard-to-track ‘conceptual wake’.”
The ‘beyond the horizon’ plan had taken its most difficult first step.
Shortly after the ‘far gaze’ set sail, another grand ‘feast’ quietly opened within the Human Federation’s controlled territory—but this was not a war, but construction and integration.
Thanks to the continuous blood transfusions from resource points like the ‘Graveyard of Ten Thousand Races’, as well as the increasing maturity of Zero-Point Energy and Reality Weaving technology, the Human Federation began an unprecedented super-engineering project—the ‘Ark World’ project.
The core of the plan was to completely transform and expand the broken engineering ship hull of ‘Forge-I’. It would no longer merely be used as wreckage; instead, with it as the skeleton and energy core, Reality Weaving technology would be used to artificially construct a massive, complex, multi-layered super-artificial stellar complex with complete ecological, industrial, scientific, and military functions around and within it!
This was a civilization-level wonder of a concept! Under the coordination of providence, the engineering team formulated a multi-stage blueprint spanning decades:
· Phase One: ‘Earth Core Furnace’. Utilizing the Zero-Point Energy array and the original geothermal energy of ‘Forge-I’, its core would be completely reshaped to establish a stable, efficient, and nearly infinite energy center.
· Phase Two: ‘Skeleton Weaving’. Using the original structure of ‘Forge-I’ as a base point, a massive network of metal skeletons would extend outward. These skeletons themselves would serve as both structural support and channels for energy and information transmission.
· Phase Three: ‘Reality Overwrite’. On the skeleton, Reality Weaving technology would be used to gradually ‘generate’ or ‘stitch’ together various functional modules such as residential areas, factories, laboratories, ports, and agricultural domes. These modules would not be built traditionally but would have their spatial structures ‘defined’ directly, making their internal environments suitable and sturdy.
· Phase Four: ‘Ecological Injection’. Establishing a highly intelligent closed-loop ecological cycle system covering the entire ‘Ark World’, integrating hydroponics, aeroponics, artificial photosynthesis, and gene-optimized flora and fauna to achieve high self-sufficiency in food, oxygen, and water.
· Final Phase: ‘Armament and Concealment’. Loading the entire ‘Ark World’ with powerful defense systems (integrating fleet firepower, planetary-scale shields, and wide-area interference fields based on ‘Concept Stabilization’) and utilizing the most advanced camouflage technology to make it appear as a void or a natural nebula under conventional and psychic detection.
Once completed, the ‘Ark World’ would become the Human Federation’s truly indestructible mobile home and ultimate Fortress. It would possess survival capabilities, productivity, scientific potential, and strategic mobility (though its movement speed would be relatively slow) far exceeding any single planet or space station.
The announcement of the plan ignited immense enthusiasm and a spirit of dedication within the Human Federation. This was not just engineering, but the sublimation of a civilization, the most powerful counterattack against their fate of exile. Countless engineers, scientists, and workers voluntarily threw themselves into this grand construction that might last for generations. Resource flows converged toward ‘Forge-I’ on an unprecedented scale.
However, just as the ‘Ark World’ project was in full swing and the restart of the first phase ‘Earth Core Furnace’ triggered a slight but detectable energy fluctuation, the ‘Truth Listener-Ultimate’ array responsible for monitoring the Imperial direction at the distant Pioneer Front captured a trace of an unusual and extremely unsettling signal.
“Report! Detected a high-intensity, high-priority Imperial psychic communication pulse! Source direction: Segmentum Obscurus core region, but relayed and amplified via Warp nodes, covering an extremely wide range!” The analyst at the monitoring station spoke with a tense voice. “The pulse content has been urgently decrypted (utilizing some Imperial communication encoding patterns accumulated previously): ...Oracle indicates... Heretical pseudo-civilization ‘Human Federation’ remnants may be hiding in... Segmentum Obscurus edge ‘Silent Zone’ (i.e., our buffer zone)... Command: all Chapters, Inquisition branches, Navy patrol fleets... increase vigilance... if discovered... report immediately... and may at your discretion... purify first...”
The Imperial hounds had finally caught the scent again! Although the information was vague, only stating ‘may be hiding’, and it was a broad warning rather than precise positioning, this was undoubtedly a top-level alarm! The Emperor’s ‘mark’ remained effective; the Imperial war machine had not forgotten them!
“Immediately activate the highest stage of the ‘Wall of Silence’ protocol! All ‘Ark World’ construction projects, suppress energy output to the minimum! Fleet activities move to deeper concealment mode! All external communications, use disposable relay nodes, absolute prohibition of any signal transmission that might expose the core location of ‘Forge-I’!” Han Zhe’s orders were quickly relayed, and a chill once again shrouded the atmosphere that had just warmed up due to the massive construction.
They were like building a palace in a minefield; they had to be constantly vigilant of the thunder that might fall from overhead.
“Fleets of the Pioneer Front, maintain stealth patrols but contract the range of activity. Increase reconnaissance efforts toward the Imperial direction, paying special attention to whether any small-scale Imperial reconnaissance fleets have penetrated the buffer zone,” Han Zhe added. “The ‘Ark World’ project... adjust the construction plan to prioritize the completion of the core concealment and defense systems. The speed can slow down, but concealment must be absolute.”
Prosperity and crisis, like twin shadows, closely followed each other once again. The ‘far gaze’ sailed toward the unknown deep space night with a faint hope; the ‘Ark World’ struggled to cast its foundations under the shadow of the Imperial threat; two thousand three hundred warships lay dormant in the folds of nebulae and the rifts of reality, waiting for the storm that might come.
The fire of the Human Federation’s civilization, on the stage at the very edge of the galaxy, simultaneously performed a trio of exploration, construction, and survival. The movements were sometimes as stirring as the roar of the ‘Earth Core Furnace’, sometimes as low as the cold pulse of Imperial communications, and sometimes as ethereal as the vanishing wake of the ‘far gaze’.
The future was like a star map that had not yet been developed; the darkness might hide a giant beast of destruction, or it might nurture the dawn of a new life.
