64: Mass Production
The "gaze" of providence was like a cold probe, scanning every inch of structure and every pipeline of Forge-I at the data level. A resource requirement list and phased repair plan, so detailed it made one's scalp tingle, appeared on the main control terminal of the dawn exactly thirty seconds later. Its complexity and stringency far exceeded the wildest deductions of the keystone and human engineers.
"Phase One Repair (Energy Core to 15%): Requires refined element zero isotopes, high-purity plasma catalysts equivalent to eight times the dawn's current total resource reserves, and... a mineral unique to the deep veins of Forge-I, marked as 'Reality Stabilization Anchor Crystal.' Extraction and processing are expected to utilize 30% of Forge-I's automated mining network and take approximately twenty standard days." The technical director read the list, his voice dry. "And that's just Phase One!"
Han Zhe looked at those astronomical requirements, but there was no wavering on his face. Resources? They now possessed the industrial potential of an entire disguised planet. "Approved. providence, you have full command of Forge-I's surface industrial protocols. Mobilize all necessary resources and prioritize repairing your energy core. The dawn will provide technical supervision and necessary support."
[Command confirmed. Dispatching.] providence's response was concise to the extreme. In the next moment, the entire Forge-I seemed to be injected with even more powerful vitality. More mining nodes were activated, giant smelting arrays ejected even more surging torrents of metal, and specialized processing plants began producing unheard-of special components according to the atomic-precision blueprints provided by providence.
The engineering team of the dawn acted like curious students, greedily learning from the engineering wonders of this ancient technology and rapidly integrating the parts they could understand and replicate—especially material formulas and precision machining techniques—into their own STC Template Library.
Twenty days later, as a low and powerful energy hum, seemingly from deep within the planetary core, spread throughout Forge-I, providence announced: [Energy core repaired to 16.3%. Phase One complete. Initiating Phase Two: Preliminary unlocking and diagnosis of deep-layer damage protocols. Priority items: Warp engine residue structures, main weapon array energy circuits.]
This time, it needed more than just resources; it also required data and a testing ground.
"Recent, high-intensity Warp disturbance data is required to calibrate the contamination analysis and isolation protocols for the engine residue structures," providence requested. "Recommendation: Actively attract or create small-scale, controllable Warp threats, or conduct close-range reconnaissance of areas with recent high Chaos activity."
Actively provoke Chaos? The expressions of everyone on the bridge changed slightly.
"We have a better choice." Han Zhe pulled up the star map and pointed to the coordinates previously marked as the Chaos Hatchery. "There might be 'more complete hounds' there, or secondary units similar to Termite Ships. We can conduct a 'clearing' operation to obtain combat data, test new equipment, and collect the 'samples' providence needs."
[Target analysis... feasible. Requires at least one set of complete combat data against a medium-sized Chaos entity (similar to the previous Termite Ship), including its energy bursts, psionic shrieks, reality distortion field parameters, and reaction data when processed by the 'Pure Kindling' protocol or the 'taotie-ii system'.] providence quickly assessed and supplemented the requirements.
"Then, operation codename: 'Sample Recovery.' Target: Chaos Hatchery. The dawn will act as the main force, with Forge-I providing long-range sensory support and partial resource replenishment. Alpha Squad—all members have received full hive-ii reinforcement and are equipped with tranquility-ii modules integrated with dream-weaving dust particles and experimental 'environmentally adaptive' armor—will deploy with stalker-iii units (enhanced models utilizing some Forge-I materials science) for coordinated combat. hound and Wraith platform clusters will provide assistance." Han Zhe formulated the plan. "This time, we're fighting with an abundance of resources!"
Fifteen days later, the dawn led the small task force, quietly approaching the Chaos Hatchery. As expected, it was no longer peaceful. Several Hound-class Chaos entities, more hideous and twisted than the 'offspring' but smaller than 'Termite Ships,' along with a large number of small 'flying insect' units, were active around a pulsing, dark-red fleshy nebula that seemed to be gestating something.
The battle began with a volley from the dawn's main cannons. A deep blue plasma torrent instantly tore through the protective psionic aura of a Hound-class entity, vaporizing nearly half of its body! Alpha Squad leaped from the stalker-iii units like reapers, their new armor standing as firm as a rock under the Chaos psionic pressure. Their weapons, some reinforced with superconducting materials produced by Forge-I, were more powerful than ever. They worked with the hound and Wraith platforms to efficiently clear the small units, deliberately forcing a Hound-class entity into a specific position.
"Now! Launch the Concept Interference Warheads! taotie-ii system, prepare to capture the sample!" Han Zhe ordered.
A specialized warhead was fired and detonated near the target Hound-class entity. What spread out was not fire, but a powerful milky-white information turbulence field! The Hound-class entity's movements instantly froze, and the Chaos aura on its surface became violently disordered. Immediately following, the dawn extended specialized capture arms equipped with a Pure Kindling energy field, firmly clamping the entity and dragging it toward the taotie-ii system's dedicated high-contamination processing inlet!
Throughout the battle, all data—energy readings, psionic waveforms, reality distortion parameters, and the Chaos entity's reactions to various attacks (physical, energy, information turbulence)—were recorded in detail and shared in real-time with providence back on Forge-I.
[Data received... analyzing...] providence's cold voice rang out through the data link. [Chaos energy decay patterns confirmed... modeling correlation between reality distortion fields and Warp-layer 'Concept Turbulence'... generating Pure Kindling protocol efficiency curves... monitoring sample processing...]
The battle ended quickly. The hatchery was completely destroyed, and the captured Hound-class entity was transformed in the taotie-ii system's furnace into valuable primal energy units and a pile of highly refined but still dangerous Chaos residue—the latter designated by providence as "important research samples."
[Data sufficient. Phase Two repair plan optimization complete. Commencing non-invasive scanning and conceptual layer purification of Warp engine residue structures. Special consumables list updated. Preliminary purification and basic circuit reconnection expected to be complete in thirty-five days, at which point extremely low-power (below 0.001C) Warp 'Shallow Gliding' tests can be attempted.] providence's efficiency was staggering.
Just as the repair work on Forge-I got on track and resources began to accumulate like a rolling snowball, Han Zhe initiated another core part of the plan: mass production to assemble a warship fleet.
"keystone, integrate the materials science, energy transmission, and giant structure construction technologies provided by Forge-I. Combine them with our original STC templates, K-73 framework, and some non-sensitive engineering protocols providence has allowed us to share to design a main battle ship of our own," Han Zhe set the tone at the core design meeting. "Requirements: Balance firepower, defense, mobility, and production feasibility. Use the dawn as a blueprint for significant upgrades and scaling, but the technical route must be more unified and advanced. Simultaneously, design accompanying escort ships (lightweight, high-speed) and professional support ships (electronic warfare, resource collection/replenishment) to form a preliminary fleet architecture."
This was an unprecedented challenge and an unprecedented opportunity. Forge-I was like an inexhaustible technical treasure trove and material mine, and the engineering optimization suggestions provided by providence (within its authority) often went straight to the heart of the matter, increasing design efficiency several-fold.
Meanwhile, the hive-ii system was running at full capacity. Supported by the Pristine Embryo protocol and the Origin Cycle Life Support Network network, the cultivation speed and quality of new clone soldiers far exceeded previous levels. The neural training system was loaded with tactical simulations provided by providence based on ancient databases (excluding parts clearly outdated or inapplicable to current technology), allowing new recruits to form effective combat power in a shorter time. More Alpha, Beta, and clone batch squads were formed; they were not only equipped with new armor and weapons but also began receiving specialized training for shipboard internal defense, boarding operations, and the operation of small vessels (currently under design).
Resources, technology, and personnel—the three lines advanced in parallel, expanding frantically.
Ninety days later.
In the North Pole region of Forge-I, beside the "conceptual anchoring" matrix once used to awaken providence, an even more magnificent creation was taking shape—it was Forge-I's own semi-completed Giant Shipyard Frame. Under providence's command and with the assistance of the dawn's engineering team, it had been fully activated and the final 30% of its construction completed. Now, it was like the open maw of a steel beast, its internal space large enough to accommodate several ships of the dawn's class!
Beside it, the dawn was quietly docked. Its hull featured many newly added external modules and reinforced armor plates from Forge-I technology, making it look even more majestic and ferocious.
providence's voice rang out simultaneously on the dawn's bridge and in the shipyard control center:
[Warp engine preliminary repair complete. Purification level 87%. Capable of short-distance (within ten light-years), low-power 'Shallow Gliding'. Reality shift risk lower than 0.3%.]
[New ship designs finalized. Models: dawn-class improved main battle ship (tentatively named 'dawn-class'); Sentinel-class light escort ship; Worker Bee-class resource collection/support ship. The entire series integrates the Concept Stabilization base field, 'environmentally adaptive' hull technology, enhanced information turbulence protection based on dream-weaving dust, and modular weapon/function hardpoints. Construction plans and resource requirements have been synchronized to the shipyard control system.]
[hive-ii expansion plan complete. Current qualified combat personnel count has increased to 500% of the initial value. Basic crew training system established.]
Everything was ready.
"Initiate the construction of the dawn, the lead ship of the dawn-class," Han Zhe stood on the bridge, looking out at the giant shipyard, his voice carrying an unquestionable decisiveness. "Simultaneously, start the construction sequence for two Sentinel-class and two Worker Bee-class ships. All available industrial capacity of Forge-I is to be tilted toward warship construction. The goal: complete the assembly of the first task fleet within sixty days!"
[Command confirmed. Forge-I industrial protocols redirected. Resource flow adjusted. Shipyard control system activated.] providence responded coldly, [Estimated completion of basic hull construction and core system integration for all five new ships in fifty-eight days and seventeen hours. Subsequent outfitting, weapon loading, and personnel manning will require additional time.]
The roar of steel echoed through the North Pole of Forge-I. Giant mechanical arms swung, and white-hot metal was cast, cut, and welded. Advanced prefabricated modules flowed continuously from molecular workshops, accurately installed onto the ship keels. The silhouettes of the five ships became clear and full in the shipyard at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Inside the dawn, the newly trained crew members began to familiarize themselves with the new ship designs and perform simulated operations. Alpha Squad acted as the backbone, assigned to each new ship as instructors for key positions or as Commander reserves.
The entire Forge-I system, like an awakened war beast, began forging teeth and armor for its "children."
Han Zhe knew that such large-scale construction activity, even with Forge-I's camouflage field, could not completely hide all traces of energy and matter flow. They had to race against time to possess a force capable of self-protection and even strategic maneuver before any eyes that might be drawn here (whether from the Empire, Chaos, or other unknown entities) could focus on them.
In deep space, a "planet" was quietly transforming. A newborn fleet was gestating in a womb of steel. And the cold star-rivers of the 42nd Millennium were about to welcome a group of uninvited guests carrying lost technology, forbidden AI, and the most resilient fire of survival and exploration that humanity could burst forth with in a desperate situation.
