383: Polluted holy river
Upon hearing Odin's insane declaration, all the Norse Gods were baffled.
Don't I know whether there is Cthulhu's power within me?
"Hey, do you think God King is crazy?"
"I think so, otherwise how could he say such a thing?"
"He's crazy, truly crazy. It turns out the prophecy of Ragnarok refers to Odin himself."
The Norse Gods shook their heads. If they had held a glimmer of hope for saving Odin before, they were now utterly disappointed.
All the Gods brandished their weapons, preparing for the upcoming battle.
Seeing the other side already at daggers drawn, Odin stopped his wild laughter.
"Interesting. You firmly believe the words of that Outer God, Michael, but you don't believe what I say, is that right?"
Seeing Odin still fearless, Thor, the God of Thunder, and the other main Gods had a bad premonition.
Could what this guy said be true?
However, they were absolutely certain that they had no contact with Cthulhu.
So where did Odin's confidence come from?
"If you're trying to buy time with such lies, I advise you to save your breath," Thor, the God of Thunder, said.
Odin shook his head and said, "Thor, you are still too young. Watch carefully, I'll only teach you once."
From Odin's empty eye socket, crimson worms suddenly began to chant. The notes were bizarre and unpredictable, completely unlike any melody that should exist in this world.
"What exactly does he want to do?"
"I don't know, but I have an unexplainable feeling."
"Wait, on your body..."
As the melody grew more chaotic, black-green pustules began to grow on the bodies of the Norse Gods.
"What... what is this?"
"I don't know, he has them too!"
"Damn it, what in the world is this monstrosity?"
One God couldn't help but burst a pustule, and disgusting fluid splattered everywhere.
But the most horrifying thing happened: from the rotting wound, hair-thin tentacles were slowly growing larger. It looked as if these tentacles were absorbing nutrients from within the Gods' bodies.
"What is this? Why are tentacles growing on my body?"
"This is... Cthulhu's aura!"
"Impossible, how could we be contaminated with Cthulhu's aura?"
Some weaker minor Gods had already lost their minds under the torment of Cthulhu's power.
Other more powerful Gods immediately began to use Divine Power to dispel these forces.
But these Cthulhu powers were like maggots on bones; no matter what methods they used, they couldn't completely remove these tentacles.
Even under the effect of Divine Power, these tentacles rooted themselves deeper.
"What should we do? Who will save me? Who can get rid of these damn tentacles?"
The plains of Asgard were filled with wails. At this moment, the Gods' bodies had begun to deform. They no longer possessed any divine majesty; they were clearly a group of nauseating monsters.
And the sacred Asgard now seemed to be a breeding ground for Cthulhu.
Thor, the God of Thunder, struggled to resist the erosion of Cthulhu's power. He asked in confusion, "Father, why? When did you leave these methods on us?"
"Heh heh, Thor, I've already said it: you are still too young.
As a king, besides formidable strength, the most important thing is to always have a backup plan."
After speaking, Odin pointed to the waterfall descending from the sky in Life Valley.
That was the source of Asgard's sacred river.
Thor, the God of Thunder, and the other Gods instantly understood the truth of the matter.
Odin laughed heartily: "As the God King of Asgard, I must have absolute control over Asgard.
Only when everyone is united under my rule can we resist the coming of Ragnarok and truly lead Asgard to the pinnacle of glory."
Odin's face was filled with madness and excitement. He had now regained control of the Gods of Asgard. He was still the King of Asgard.
"Father, by doing this, you are pushing Asgard completely into the abyss," Thor, the God of Thunder, said, clutching his head. At this moment, he not only had to contend with Cthulhu's power, but countless chaotic melodies and mad Whisper also appeared in his mind.
Even Thor, the God of Thunder, was struggling to resist, let alone the other Gods.
"Ah! My body is so itchy, there's a sound in my head, I don't want to hear it, I don't want to hear it!"
"Stop talking, stop talking, get those disgusting sounds out of my head..."
At this point, the Gods were in disarray; they had lost their sanity.
Some Gods plunged their hands into their heads, splitting their skulls in half to resist the Whisper in their minds, but countless tentacles grew from the split skulls and re-intertwined.
Asgard had completely become a hotbed of chaos.
"Heh heh! Alright, alright, I'm tired, I'll listen to you, okay?"
"Cthulhu... can you truly bring me eternal happiness?"
"Kill... kill... kill them all..."
Seeing that the Gods of Asgard were completely contaminated by Cthulhu's power, Odin's lips curled into a smile:
"Everyone, now I will lead you to kill our enemies, alright?"
"Good!"
"Hahaha, God King, quickly lead us out!"
"Kill Michael, raze Great Xia to the ground..."
At this moment, the Gods of Asgard had completely lost their minds, turning into a group of lunatics driven only by primal desires.
In Life Valley, the three Goddesses of Fate hid by a secluded spring.
It turned out that the three Goddesses of Fate had always lived in isolation in Life Valley; they did not drink the water from the sacred river and thus were not contaminated by Cthulhu's power.
Urd, the Goddess of the Past, and Verdandi, the Goddess of the Present, looked sorrowful, while Skuld, the Goddess of the Future, was weeping profusely.
"Sister Urd, Sister Verdandi, are we just going to watch Asgard descend into the abyss like this?"
Urd and Verdandi closed their eyes and shook their heads. Finally, Urd spoke:
"Ragnarok has arrived; this is Asgard's destiny, and we have no power to stop the gears of fate."
Hearing Urd's almost despairing words, Skuld cried even more sadly.
Verdandi, the Goddess of the Present, stroked her head and said with a pained heart, "Old Gods will eventually be destroyed, and New Gods will carry the pride of Asgard into the new world. You are the Goddess of the Future, and you are Asgard's hope."
"Sister Urd, Sister Verdandi, will the future truly favor Asgard?"
Urd and Verdandi nodded vigorously. They both grasped Skuld's hand, "Look, isn't the future in your hands? Believe in yourself!"
