107: Welcome to the first level of Hell

He did not draw his sword.

Instead, he pulled a slightly crushed cigarette from his pocket, put it in his mouth, but did not light it.

"Since they are dead men walking, this will be easy."

He spoke into the communicator:

"Zhao Dahai, pull the plane up to the stratosphere and watch the show. Don't come down and cause trouble."

"Nightingale, left flank."

"Su Qingxue, watch my back."

"As for the path in the middle..."

He looked at the towering black monolith and the sea of white figures blocking its entrance.

"I'll push through."

Before his voice faded.

Boom—!

The soldiers in the front row opened fire.

The dense hail of bullets was like a metal storm, tearing through the swirling snow and instantly covering Chen Mo's position.

The ice surface was riddled with holes, and shards of ice flew everywhere.

But no one was there anymore.

"Where is he?!"

A soldier who looked like a captain spun his muzzle around in confusion.

Pfft.

His vision suddenly rotated three hundred and sixty degrees, and he finally saw his own neck cavity still spurting blood.

Chen Mo was already standing at the very front of the formation, though no one knew when he had arrived.

He held no weapon, only his right hand, which was covered by a black leather glove.

That hand was currently gripping the throat of a second soldier.

Crunch.

The sound of the neck bone breaking was exceptionally crisp amidst the wind.

"The drug effect is quite good."

Chen Mo casually tossed the corpse, knocking down a group of soldiers rushing forward.

"Their heartbeats sound like thunder."

"Since you are so eager to die..."

He stomped heavily on the ground.

Buzz—!

With him as the center, the ice surface within a ten-meter radius suddenly turned black!

No.

The ice surface hadn't changed color.

It was shadows.

Countless black shadows drilled out from the cracks in the ice, like tentacles from the abyss, instantly wrapping around the dozens of soldiers rushing at the front.

"Then all of you, die."

Pfft, pfft, pfft, pfft, pfft!

The black Shadow Spikes penetrated the bulletproof vests without obstruction, piercing through chests and emerging from their backs.

Blood instantly stained the white arctic uniforms crimson.

Dozens of corpses were skewered mid-air by the Shadow Spikes like hanging cured meat, their limbs still twitching unconsciously.

"Monster..."

Su Qingxue watched this scene. Although it wasn't the first time she had seen Chen Mo kill, this kind of slaughter, like mowing grass, still made her stomach churn.

But this was no time to vomit.

"Three o'clock position!"

Nightingale let out a cold cry and slid across the ground.

A squad of heavily armed soldiers over there was trying to set up a mortar.

A flash of blue light.

That squad of soldiers, men and mortar barrels alike, were neatly sliced into two halves.

Nightingale didn't stop, launching herself forward again by stepping on the corpses. Wherever she went, only blooming blood flowers remained.

"Suppressing fire! He's there!"

The commander in the rear roared.

Rockets, trailing long plumes of exhaust, whistled as they slammed toward Chen Mo.

Chen Mo didn't even lift his head.

He simply raised his right hand and snatched at the incoming rockets in the air.

The originally straight trajectory suddenly bent bizarrely, as if its direction had been forcibly twisted by some power.

Boom!

The rocket exploded right beneath the commander's feet.

Flames consumed the entire command vehicle.

"Too slow."

Chen Mo shook his head.

He glanced at the black monolith, which was getting closer.

Five hundred meters remained until the main entrance.

But those five hundred meters were paved with corpses.

"I don't have time to waste on these cannon fodder."

He suddenly stopped and pulled the black key out of his chest pocket.

The key was vibrating.

It was yearning.

Yearning to return to that tower.

"Open the door."

Chen Mo commanded in a low voice toward the massive fifty-meter-tall obsidian gate.

Buzz—

The key suddenly erupted with a dazzling black light!

The light did not diffuse outwards; instead, it formed a straight line, shooting directly toward the gate.

The intricate runes on the tightly sealed gate suddenly lit up.

It was like a sleeping behemoth opening its eyes.

Rumble, rumble, rumble—

The ground began to tremble.

Even the surrounding ice plain shook violently.

The soldiers who were still trying to charge forward lost their footing and fell.

The obsidian gate, which had been sealed for an unknown number of years, slowly slid open to both sides.

A scent that was old and rotten, yet carried a hint of industrial machine oil, surged out from the gap in the door.

"Go!"

Chen Mo roared.

Ignoring the remaining soldiers, his figure exploded forward, transforming into a black lightning bolt and rushing toward the opening gap.

Nightingale and Su Qingxue followed closely.

The moment the three rushed through the gate.

Outside, the soldiers who had been frantically attacking suddenly all stopped.

Like toys that had their power cut off.

They lowered their muzzles, stood blankly in place, and allowed the wind and snow to gradually bury them.

Click.

The gate slammed shut heavily behind the three of them.

All sounds of wind, gunfire, and explosions vanished at this instant.

Absolute silence.

"This is..."

Su Qingxue gasped for air, the barrel of the gun in her hand still hot.

She raised her head, looked at the sight before her, and her pupils suddenly contracted.

This was not a hall.

This was a massive... slaughterhouse.

Or rather, a specimen room.

Thousands of massive glass cylinders were densely arranged in this space, which was about the size of ten football fields.

Green liquid filled the cylinders.

And inside every liquid tank, there was... a person soaking.

No, they could not be called "people."

Some had fish-like gills, some had tattered wings growing from their backs, and some were covered entirely in black scales.

Tubes were inserted all over their bodies. They floated slightly, eyes closed, with the movement of the liquid.

"Welcome to the First Floor of 'Paradise'."

That elegant voice sounded again from the speakers all around.

Arthur's voice carried a hint of boastfulness, as if he were showing off his wine collection to guests.

"These are all... small sacrifices made for evolution."

"They failed the screening."

"And became what we call 'Scrap'."

"However..."

Click.

A crisp switching sound.

Red lights suddenly illuminated within all the glass tanks.

Gurgle—

The green liquid began to boil, and bubbles surged upwards frantically.

Those pairs of tightly closed eyes suddenly snapped open!

There were no pupils.

Only a murky, dead white.

"Recycling scrap is also a form of environmental protection, isn't it?"

Arthur laughed.

"I hope you enjoy your time."

Crack.

A crack appeared on the surface of the glass tank closest to Chen Mo.

Followed by the second, the third... a thousand.

Two thousand.

Bang!

The glass shattered.

The "Scrap" covered in black scales fell onto the floor.

It twisted its body, let out a non-human roar, and then slowly raised its head to look at the three "prey" standing by the door.

Chen Mo looked down at it.

At his feet was a puddle of dark green viscous liquid.

"Su Qingxue."

Chen Mo's voice was very calm, terrifyingly so.

"Wha... what is it?" Su Qingxue's hand holding the gun was trembling.

This horror movie scenario was more unnerving than the battlefield full of bullets and explosions moments ago.

"Do you still have the cigarette I didn't light earlier?"

Su Qingxue paused, then subconsciously pulled the lighter Chen Mo had thrown away out of her pocket.

"Yes."

"Light it for me."

Chen Mo tilted his head, bringing the slightly damp cigarette tip closer.

The flame flickered.

Smoke rose.

He took a deep drag, let the pungent smoke swirl in his lungs, and then slowly exhaled.

The smoke blurred his face, revealing only a pair of eyes flashing with violent light.

"I'm doing a deep clean on this floor."

Roar—!!!

Thousands of mutated monsters roared simultaneously and rushed over like a tide.

Chen Mo tossed the lighter away.

He clenched his right hand in the air.

A pitch-black, long-handled scythe, condensed from high-density dark matter, appeared in his hand.

"Make sure you wipe your feet..."

"...clean, damn it!"

Swish!

The black blade light swept out.
