252: Your heartbeat sounds like a cheap alarm clock.

Chapter 252: Your Heartbeat Sounds Like a Cheap Alarm Clock. "Found you."

Chen Mo ducked low, evading the hail of bullets, and lunged right into Attendant-B's embrace.

This was a blind spot.

"Get lost!"

Attendant-B let out a synthesized electronic roar, raising its heavy mechanical arm to squash this bug.

Too slow.

With his right hand gripping a dagger in a reverse hold, Chen Mo stabbed it deep into the gap of the armor under its armpit.

Zzzzt!

The blade severed a hydraulic line, spraying black engine oil all over Chen Mo's face.

But that wasn't enough.

These monsters possessed incredibly tenacious vitality; as long as their core remained intact, they could fight on indefinitely.

"Ruan Qiushui!"

Chen Mo shouted.

"Coming."

A red shadow drifted over.

Ruan Qiushui's pale hands, as if incorporeal, passed directly through Attendant-B's heavy chest armor.

Then, they materialized.

Crack!

It was the sound of ribs and metal snapping simultaneously.

Ruan Qiushui's hand churned inside the monster's body before she yanked it outward.

A human heart, still beating and connected to several snapped wires, was ripped out by her bare hands.

The heart even twitched a couple of times in her palm.

"This smell..."

Ruan Qiushui frowned in disgust, casually tossed the heart onto the ground, and crushed it underfoot. "It's like rancid pork."

Boom.

Deprived of its core, Attendant-B collapsed like a falling tower, kneeling heavily on the ground as the red light in its eyes faded out.

The entire process took less than ten seconds.

Dead silence returned to the room.

Only the hum of the rotary machine gun idling and Chen Mo's heavy breathing remained.

Clap, clap, clap.

White Dove remained seated in that white chair, even finding the leisure to applaud.

"Splendid."

He set down his wine glass, a perverse thirst for knowledge shimmering in his eyes behind the lenses.

"Simply marvelous. The pinnacle of physical destructive power combined with spiritual-level mental interference. You two are truly a match made in heaven."

Chen Mo flicked the engine oil off his dagger and strode toward White Dove.

"Finished with your last words?"

"Last words?"

White Dove smiled, unbuttoning his white coat with unhurried deliberation. "Officer Chen, have you misunderstood something?"

He took off the white coat and tossed it aside.

Underneath was a black bodysuit.

But this garment... was alive.

Looking closely, it wasn't fabric at all, but layers of dense, mycelium-like black fibers tightly wrapping his body, squirming slowly with his breath.

"I am a doctor."

White Dove stood up and cracked his neck. "In this dog-eat-dog world, how can one perform surgery on patients without a knife in hand?"

A cluster of ghostly blue light suddenly lit up in the center of his chest.

Thump!

A dull heartbeat rang out.

The sound didn't seem human; it was more like a high-powered centrifuge starting up.

Chen Mo's heart suddenly constricted, producing a strong sense of revulsion.

It was the "Pump" protesting.

Like a lion spotting a hyena.

"This is a nuclear pacemaker."

White Dove pointed to his chest. "While it's no match for your 'gluttony,' it provides me with power equivalent to three tank engines."

Whoosh!

Before the words had even faded, White Dove's figure suddenly vanished.

Fast.

Ridiculously fast.

Chen Mo raised his left arm to block almost instinctively.

Bang!

A massive force struck him, sending Chen Mo flying. He slammed hard into the base of the shattered life-support pod.

A large crater was smashed into the metal base.

"Cough..."

Chen Mo felt the bone in his left arm crack.

This power was even greater than that of those two iron lumps from before.

"Good reaction."

White Dove stood where Chen Mo had just been, holding a half-meter-long laser scalpel that emitted a dangerous heat.

"Pity your body is already at its limit. That heart is backfiring on you, isn't it?"

He approached step by step, as elegant as if he were strolling through his own backyard.

"It's hungry."

"It's eating your cells and drinking your blood."

"Give it to me, and I can swap it for one that's more obedient."

Chen Mo leaned against the base and wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth.

He was laughing.

His smile looked worse than a sob.

"You're right."

Chen Mo braced himself on his knees and stood up unsteadily. "It really is hungry."

He glanced down at his chest.

The skin there had turned a dark red, and the intense heat distorted the surrounding air.

"So..."

Chen Mo looked up; his eyes, once clearly defined, were now entirely pitch black.

"It says it wants to taste a nuclear battery."

Boom!

The steel plates beneath Chen Mo's feet instantly buckled and cracked.

He didn't dodge; instead, he charged straight at White Dove.

"Seeking death."

White Dove's gaze turned cold as his laser scalpel traced a lethal arc, aiming directly for Chen Mo's throat.

This blade could slice through tank armor; cutting a human neck would be as easy as cutting tofu.

But Chen Mo didn't retreat.

At the moment the blade was about to touch his skin, his body twisted at an incredibly bizarre angle.

It was a movement absolutely impossible for a normal human skeleton.

Sizzle!

The high-temperature blade grazed his neck, leaving a charred scar.

But he had closed the distance.

He was within White Dove's inner circle.

"What?!"

White Dove's pupils shrank. He tried to back away, only to find that his feet wouldn't move.

He looked down.

Countless small, pale hands were reaching out from the cracks in the floor, gripping his ankles tightly.

"Got you."

Not far away, Ruan Qiushui was lying on the floor, her fingers dug deep into the floorboards, a mischievous, triumphant grin on her face.

"Damn it!"

White Dove was alarmed, the black fibers on his body exploding outward in an attempt to break free.

Too late.

Chen Mo was already right in front of him.

They were face to face, their breaths mingling.

Chen Mo dropped his dagger.

He spread his arms and locked White Dove in a tight bear hug, like an old friend.

Then.

He opened his mouth.

And bit down hard on White Dove's shoulder.

"Aaaaaah!"

White Dove let out a shrill, agonizing scream.

This was no ordinary bite.

Chen Mo's teeth were like straws, piercing through the black fibers and sinking into White Dove's flesh.

A massive surge of energy with a radioactive tang flooded frantically into Chen Mo's body through the wound.

It was the energy of the nuclear pacemaker.

The "Pump" went wild.

It was like a beggar in Naples who hadn't eaten for three days suddenly stumbling upon a royal feast.

Suck!

Frantic absorption!

The blue light in White Dove's chest began to flicker violently, pulsing erratically.

"Let go! You lunatic!"

White Dove desperately stabbed at Chen Mo's back with his scalpel.

Sizzle, sizzle.

Chen Mo's back was sliced into a bloody mess, the scent of charred flesh filling the air.

But as if he couldn't feel the pain, he refused to let go, his grip tightening until the sound of White Dove's ribs snapping could be heard.

"The taste..."

Chen Mo mumbled indistinctly, "A bit spicy."

Ten seconds.

Just ten seconds.

The blue light in White Dove's chest went out completely.

His once robust body shriveled rapidly, and the layer of black biological fibers withered and fell off, revealing skin as pale as paper.

Clatter.

The laser scalpel fell to the floor.

White Dove slumped in Chen Mo's arms like a pile of mud.
