329: Chapter 329 The Stalker Under the Rain

Chapter 329: The Stalker Under the Rain Curtain. The laser welding torch in Fat Guy's hand dropped onto the floor tiles.

Sparks flew everywhere.

Jiang Hong stopped chewing her bun.

She looked down at the welding torch on the ground.

Then she looked up.

Her gaze rested on Chen Mo's bleeding shoulder.

Chen Mo stood unsteadily.

He used his right hand to brace himself against the edge of the metal bed.

Cold sweat slid down his forehead, dripping onto the rust-spotted bed frame.

It would take Zhao Cheng twenty-five minutes to leave here and drive back to the Security Bureau headquarters.

To go through the Internal Affairs Department's procedures and apply for a lockdown order, it would take forty minutes at the fastest.

Oracle Technology had just suffered an underground base explosion; their Quick Response Force was currently all in the East District ruins clearing the scene.

Armory No. 3, located in the South District, was currently in a defensive vacuum.

Going there carried a thirty percent risk.

Staying here to wait for Internal Affairs to come knocking carried a hundred percent risk.

“You're crazy.” Jiang Hong swallowed the food in her mouth.

She pulled over a chair and sat down.

“The outer wall of Armory No. 3 is fifty-centimeter-thick blast-proof armor.”

“There are twelve automatic defense cannons inside.”

“At least thirty garrison personnel.”

“With your current crippled state, you're going there to die?” Jiang Hong countered.

Chen Mo raised his right hand.

He fumbled in the medical cabinet next to the hospital bed.

He pulled out a roll of hemostatic bandage.

He bit one end of the bandage with his teeth and pulled with his right hand.

The bandage wrapped around the metal base of his left shoulder.

One loop.

Two loops.

Blood quickly soaked through the white cotton cloth.

404 stood nearby.

He watched the force with which Chen Mo pulled the bandage.

This kind of tension would tug at broken nerve endings, triggering intense pain stimuli.

Chen Mo didn't make a sound.

His breathing frequency remained at twenty times per minute.

404 swallowed a mouthful of saliva. What exactly was this man made of? Had his pain nerves been removed?

The Old Blind Man blew bubbles in the fish tank.

“Armory No. 3's defense system uses an independent internal network,” the Old Blind Man spoke up.

“Fat Guy can't get in.”

“Unless someone can physically access the terminal server in the computer room,” the Old Blind Man added.

Chen Mo tied the bandage in a dead knot.

“I can get in,” Chen Mo replied.

“How?” Jiang Hong stood up, kicking away a discarded medical tube by her feet.

“Through the sewers.” Chen Mo walked toward the tactical backpack in the corner of the room.

He unzipped it and rummaged for magazines.

“Sewage pipe number thirty-five in the South District leads directly to the first basement level of the armory.”

“How are you so clear on the layout there?” 404 pushed the thick-rimmed glasses on the bridge of his nose.

Chen Mo stopped moving.

His fingers touched a metal button stained with dark red blood.

This was something he had ripped off the modified prosthetic soldier in the basement ruins.

[Sin Resonance activated.]

A light blue text box projected onto his retina.

Memory images flooded into his brain.

First-person perspective.

He was standing in foul-smelling, waist-deep sewage.

Dead rats floated on the water surface.

Ahead was a massive metal grate.

He raised his hand.

He held a welding torch in his hand.

The welding rod touched the edge of the grate.

Sparks lit up.

He cut an opening half a meter wide and half a meter long.

He crawled inside.

The vision ended.

A violent headache struck.

Chen Mo leaned against the wall.

The blood vessels in his temples throbbed.

Overusing the system brought nerve compression.

He gripped the button tightly.

“A dead man told me,” Chen Mo replied.

Jiang Hong looked at Chen Mo's pale face.

She walked to the weapon rack.

She took down a shotgun.

Click.

She chambered a shell.

“404, get the car ready,” Jiang Hong ordered.

Fat Guy froze in place.

“Team Leader, you're going crazy too?” 404 asked.

“Those bastards from Internal Affairs are about to ride on our necks.” Jiang Hong slung the shotgun behind her back.

“The Cold Case Unit only has these few people.”

“We can't let them sweep us out like trash.”

“I'm missing a handy sniper rifle.” Jiang Hong walked toward the door.

Chen Mo opened his eyes.

He watched Jiang Hong's back.

This woman had a hot temper and acted recklessly.

But she was extremely protective of her own.

In this city full of radiation and schemes, this was a rare trait.

“Fat Guy, bring the fish tank,” Chen Mo instructed.

He picked up a black tactical trench coat and draped it over himself.

It covered the bandage on his left shoulder.

“I'm not going!” the Old Blind Man protested in the water.

“That place has strong electromagnetic interference.”

“My life support system will crash!” the Old Blind Man shouted.

404 walked over and picked up the fish tank.

“The computer room's firewall needs your password library.” Fat Guy patted the glass wall of the tank.

They walked out of the infirmary.

The rain outside hadn't stopped.

The underground garage was leaking.

Water droplets smashed onto the armored vehicle's hood.

The four of them got in the car.

404 sat in the driver's seat and started the engine.

Jiang Hong sat in the passenger seat.

Chen Mo sat in the back row, with the fish tank beside him.

The vehicle drove out of the garage and charged into the rain curtain.

Streetlights flickered.

Neon signs cast colorful halos in the puddles.

Chen Mo leaned against the seat back.

He closed his eyes.

Upgrade.

[Upgrade complete.]

Chen Mo needed a wider detection range.

The distribution of the armory's guards would determine the infiltration route.

The vehicle bumped along the potholed road.

Chen Mo's body swayed with it.

A tearing sensation came from his left shoulder.

He pressed his right hand against the bandage on his left shoulder.

His palm felt a warm liquid.

The wound had reopened.

“Arriving in South District in fifteen minutes,” 404 said, looking at the navigation screen.

“Roadblock ahead.” Jiang Hong gripped the door handle.

Chen Mo opened his eyes.

His gaze pierced through the windshield.

At the intersection three hundred meters ahead.

Two black anti-riot vehicles were parked.

The Oracle Technology logo was printed on the vehicle bodies.

Four fully armed mercenaries stood in the rain.

They held assault rifles in their hands.

Red laser aiming lines swept back and forth through the rain curtain.

It was a temporary checkpoint.

“Charge through?” 404 asked.

His right foot hovered over the gas pedal.

“The model of this armored vehicle is on file at the Bureau,” Jiang Hong answered.

“Ramming through will leave traces.”

“Internal Affairs would have direct evidence to arrest us,” Jiang Hong added.

Chen Mo concentrated.

The system radar expanded.

Four red light dots appeared in the corner of his retina.

Heartbeat frequencies were steady.

Sixty to seventy times per minute.

They hadn't discovered this vehicle.

“Turn right,” Chen Mo spoke up.

“Go into that alley.”

404 spun the steering wheel hard.

The armored vehicle's tires frictioned against the water-logged road.

It made a piercing screech.

The vehicle body dove into a narrow back alley.

Both sides of the alley were piled with trash cans.

Rats scurried everywhere.

“This is a dead end.” 404 looked at the brick wall ahead.

“Cut the engine,” Chen Mo ordered.

The engine stopped running.

The headlights went out.

The interior of the car fell into darkness.

Only the muffled sound of rain hitting the roof could be heard.

Chen Mo listened to the movements outside.

Heartbeat Localization showed.

Those four red dots hadn't moved.

They hadn't followed.

Chen Mo pushed open the car door.

His right foot stepped into the standing water.

“What are you doing?” Jiang Hong asked in a low voice.

“Finding a sewer entrance,” Chen Mo replied.

He reached back and closed the car door.

He walked into the rain.

The rain instantly soaked through his clothes.

A cold wind blew past.

His body temperature dropped rapidly.
