242: The Complete Feast
Chapter 242: The All-Monster Feast - "Who did you just call trash?"
Chen Mo grabbed the young man's hair and lifted that mangled, bloody face. His voice was as flat as if he were asking for directions.
A deathly silence filled the hall.
The elegant guests finally lost their composure.
That young man was the young master of the Zhao Family, one of the four major families in Jiangcheng, and a B-grade mental esper. Yet, he was being pinned to the ground by a refugee like a chicken being slaughtered?
"Let... let go..."
Young Master Zhao was still twitching, blood foaming from his mouth.
"Stop!"
Butler Liu finally reacted, his face ashen. "To dare commit violence in the Lighthouse—no matter whose patient you are, you die here today!"
Shink, shink, shink.
From the shadows surrounding the hall, a dozen dark figures instantly lunged out.
They weren't human.
They were semi-mechanized wolfhounds, each as large as a young calf, with mouths full of steel teeth and electronic prosthetic eyes flashing red.
"Kill them!" Butler Liu waved his hand.
The wolfhounds roared and pounced.
Su Qingxue struggled to prop up her body, reaching for a table knife on the floor.
Ninth Master closed his eyes in despair.
Chen Mo didn't move.
He simply tossed the half-dead Young Master Zhao into the pack of wolves like a piece of trash, then looked up at the second-floor railing of the hall.
A person was standing there.
He had been standing there the whole time.
"If you don't speak up soon, I'll kill everyone on this floor."
Chen Mo looked at the figure and said coldly, "Wang Daoming."
"Hahahaha!"
A hearty laugh rang out from the second floor.
Following the laughter, the mechanized wolfhounds that had pounced into mid-air fell to the ground like puppets with their strings cut, clattering into silence.
All the guests looked up, their faces filled with awe.
Beside the second-floor railing, a middle-aged man in a Zhongshan suit was clapping.
He looked very ordinary.
Like the kind of old man you'd see practicing Tai Chi in a park.
But in his hand, he held a raw beef leg that was still dripping with blood, tearing and biting into it mouthful by mouthful with savage ferocity.
Wang Daoming.
The biggest information broker in Jiangcheng and a titan in this dark world.
"Splendid."
Wang Daoming swallowed the raw meat in his mouth and casually tossed the beef bone down to Butler Liu below.
"Uncle Liu, drag this puppy down and get him treated. Don't let him die here; it's bad luck."
He pointed at Young Master Zhao on the ground.
Butler Liu bowed respectfully and dragged the unconscious Young Master Zhao away like a bag of trash.
The other guests were also quick to take the hint, retreating to the edges of the hall and clearing the center.
"Come up."
Wang Daoming beckoned to Chen Mo. "Since White Dove gave you that vial of blood, you're qualified to sit at my table."
Chen Mo took a deep breath, suppressing the violent killing intent in his chest.
"Let's go."
He pulled Su Qingxue up and, leading the shaken Ninth Master, stepped over the mess on the floor and walked up to the second floor.
There was only one table on the second floor.
It was large and covered with various delicacies.
But upon closer inspection, the plates didn't contain ordinary ingredients at all.
There was the still-beating heart of an unknown creature, a soup of eyeballs emitting a blue glow, and thinly sliced brains of some mutant beast.
This was an All-Monster Feast.
Wang Daoming sat at the head of the table, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth with a napkin.
"Sit."
He pointed to the chair opposite him.
Chen Mo sat down.
Su Qingxue and Ninth Master stood behind him, staring warily at Wang Daoming.
"Care for a bite?"
Wang Daoming pushed over a plate of still-wriggling sashimi. "'Ghost Face Fish' freshly caught from the Abyss Rift. Very nourishing."
"I'm not hungry."
Chen Mo stared at Wang Daoming. "I want information."
"I know what you want."
Wang Daoming smiled and picked up a glass of wine. "You want to know the background of that woman in the qipao, and you also want to know how to turn off that 'pump' in your chest, right?"
Chen Mo's pupils constricted slightly.
"You really do know."
"Of course I know."
Wang Daoming swirled his wine glass. "As long as I want to know what happens in Jiangcheng, I even know what the rats in the sewers are eating tonight."
He suddenly lowered his voice and leaned forward.
"That woman is named Ruan Qiushui. She is a 'key'."
"A key?"
"A key to open the ruins of the 'Old Gods'." A flash of fanaticism appeared in Wang Daoming's eyes. "And you, Chen Mo, are the 'lock'."
Chen Mo frowned.
"What do you mean?"
"It means..."
Wang Daoming suddenly slammed his wine glass onto the table. "As long as you are cut open, that heart is removed, and then drenched with her blood, the door to the 'New World' can be opened."
"That's why she's chasing you like she's gone mad."
"That's why White Dove saved you—because he doesn't want you to die at someone else's hands."
"And so..."
The smile on Wang Daoming's face turned hideous. "I'm also quite hungry for your body, Chen Mo."
Before his voice had even faded...
The entire Lighthouse suddenly shook violently.
Boom!
The crystal chandelier overhead swung wildly, and the plates on the table clattered.
The sound of the blue energy shield shattering was clearly audible even on the second floor.
"Warning! Defense system offline!"
"Outer barrier ruptured!"
The hall fell into chaos.
Through the massive floor-to-ceiling window, Chen Mo saw a hellish scene.
That mass of red energy cloud had already smashed through the Lighthouse's gates.
Ruan Qiushui was hovering in mid-air.
The qipao she wore was now tattered, and her exposed skin was covered in black patterns.
Countless red tentacles extended from her back, skewering the fleeing guards and guests like candied haws, as easily as if piercing tofu.
She was feeding.
Every tentacle was sucking the flesh and blood of those people.
"Chen Mo—"
Her voice pierced through the glass, carrying a hair-raising vibrato.
"I smell you."
"So fragrant..."
Crack.
The floor-to-ceiling window exploded.
A gale mixed with glass shards and the smell of blood surged into the second floor.
Wang Daoming didn't panic at all.
He even picked up a piece of sashimi, put it in his mouth, and chewed slowly.
"It seems we're adding another dish to tonight's dinner."
Wang Daoming looked at the monster outside the window, then back at Chen Mo, a strange curve hooking his lips.
"Chen Mo, do you want to live?"
"If you want to live, make a deal with me."
Chen Mo stood up and clenched his fists, his nails piercing his palms.
He could feel the heart in his chest cheering.
It wanted to devour Ruan Qiushui.
And it wanted to devour Wang Daoming too.
"What deal?" Chen Mo asked.
Wang Daoming pointed at the demon-like woman outside the window.
"You act as bait and lead her to the 'Sacrificial Altar' on the top floor."
"I'll help you suppress the heart's side effects."
"If you don't agree..."
Wang Daoming spread his hands. "Then you can only watch as your two friends become that monster's snacks."
Ninth Master and Su Qingxue's faces were deathly pale.
The floor below had turned into a slaughterhouse.
Red tentacles were rampaging through the hall, and those big shots who were so high and mighty moments ago were now being torn to pieces while screaming.
Ruan Qiushui's face appeared at the window.
On that exquisitely beautiful face, there was now only a frenzied appetite.
She saw Chen Mo.
"Heehee."
She smiled, revealing a mouthful of shark-like pointed teeth.
"Found you, little mouse."
Chen Mo glanced back at Su Qingxue and Ninth Master.
Then he looked at Wang Daoming, who sat as steady as a mountain.
Finally, he looked at the approaching red-clothed female ghost.
"Deal."
Chen Mo grabbed the plate of wriggling 'Ghost Face Fish' from the table, stuffed it into his mouth, and chewed it fiercely.
A surge of icy, fishy air rushed to his head.
The sharp pain in his chest was instantly suppressed by a violent surge of power.
"Don't keep the chef waiting too long."
Chen Mo turned, smashed through the second-floor railing, and jumped directly out of the hole.
Facing the sky full of red silk.
Since everyone wants to eat...
Then let's see whose teeth are sharper.
