77: The Devil's Interrogation Room
The smell of disinfectant mixed with a faint, almost imperceptible scent of blood.
The hospital room instantly transformed into an interrogation chamber.
Liu Feng was tightly pinned down onto a cold metal chair by two burly security guards, facing Chen Mo's hospital bed.
His mouth was pried open, and the poisoned false tooth was roughly pulled out and tossed into a tray, where it made a crisp sound.
But there was no hint of fear on his face.
There was only the calm of a martyr after a failed mission, and deep disdain for the mortals before him.
“Don’t waste your energy.”
He looked at the pale Chen Mo, a mocking curve twisting his lips.
“Even if you kill me, you won’t get anything.”
Zhao Dahai's temper flared up instantly.
He lunged forward, grabbing Liu Feng's collar with his large, fan-like hand.
“Say that again, you bastard!”
“Zhao Dahai!”
Fang Zheng instinctively tried to stop him, but his voice lacked its usual confidence.
His gaze involuntarily drifted toward the young man leaning against the headboard, who looked as if he were asleep.
Su Qingxue stood beside Chen Mo's bed, like an ice sculpture.
Her hand remained near the holster at her waist, and her beautiful eyes held nothing but absolute calm.
“Name: Liu Feng. Thirty-four years old, former Army Special Reconnaissance Brigade, Sergeant Second Class.”
Fang Zheng pulled out a file and began the procedure he was most familiar with.
“You retired due to injury three years ago, and your record has been blank ever since. Tell me, where have you been for the past three years? Who is your handler?”
Liu Feng sneered, not even bothering to look at him.
“Director Fang, is that right?” He glanced sideways at Fang Zheng. “Don’t use that routine on me; it’s useless. I’ve had more anti-interrogation training than you’ve eaten salt.”
Fang Zheng’s expression instantly became extremely grim.
“Hand him over to...”
“I’ll handle this.”
A weak voice interrupted him.
Chen Mo opened his eyes.
He looked at Liu Feng, his dark eyes like two bottomless, cold pools.
“All of you, leave.”
“What?” Zhao Dahai was stunned. “Kid, you alone...”
“Qingxue stays.”
Chen Mo ignored him and just looked at Su Qingxue.
Su Qingxue nodded.
Zhao Dahai and Fang Zheng exchanged glances, both seeing the absurdity in the other’s eyes.
But they still withdrew.
The heavy hospital room door slowly closed, cutting off all outside noise.
Only three people remained in the room.
A half-dead patient lying in bed.
A dedicated operative bound to a chair, ready to die.
And a female officer standing armed, beautiful as an iceberg.
“What? Want to play mind games with me?”
Liu Feng looked at Chen Mo, the contempt in his eyes undisguised.
“You’re still too green.”
Chen Mo did not speak.
He simply raised his chin slightly toward Su Qingxue.
“Push that cart over here.”
Su Qingxue followed his gaze.
It was a medical emergency cart in the corner.
On it were a defibrillator and rows of labeled adrenaline and cardiac stimulants.
Su Qingxue’s pupils suddenly constricted.
But she did not ask.
She just walked over and silently pushed the cold emergency cart next to Liu Feng’s chair.
The corner of Liu Feng’s eye twitched as well.
The composure on his face showed a crack for the first time.
“What are you trying to do? Beat a confession out of me?”
“No.”
Chen Mo shook his head.
“'Torture is for beasts. I'm a scientist,'” he said in fluent English with an Oxford accent.
“I just want to... hear your story.”
After speaking, he slowly closed his eyes.
In his perception, the entire world instantly changed.
Thump! Thump-thump! Thump-thump-thump!
Liu Feng’s heart, currently feigning composure, beat dully in his mind like a drum muffled by thick cloth.
“Heart rate: 115 beats per minute.”
Chen Mo’s voice was soft, yet it sliced through all of Liu Feng’s pretense with the precision of a cold surgical knife.
“You are afraid, but you are using anger to hide it.”
Liu Feng’s body suddenly stiffened.
He stared intently at Chen Mo, his eyes filled with horror.
“Your adrenaline is spiking, and your pupils have dilated by 0.2 millimeters.”
Chen Mo continued.
“You are wondering how exactly I know this. You are frantically recalling your training manual, trying to find a way to deal with this situation.”
“But you won’t find one.”
“Because no one has ever taught you how to deal with a devil who can hear the sound of your soul.”
“Shut up!”
Liu Feng finally lost control.
He let out a sharp roar, like a cornered beast!
“What the hell are you?!”
Chen Mo ignored his roar.
His fingertips tapped lightly on the sheet.
The rhythm was identical to Liu Feng’s current heartbeat.
“I see it.”
Chen Mo’s voice became somewhat ethereal, as if he were recounting a story unrelated to himself.
“You are in a very dark, very damp basement.”
“You are holding a knife, and blood is still dripping from the blade.”
“In front of you lies a man. He used to be your best brother, the one who saved the last bit of dry rations for you.”
“But you killed him.”
“Because you felt he betrayed you, that he stole... what rightfully belonged to you.”
Boom!
Liu Feng’s mind felt as if it had been hit by a real bomb!
The mask of coldness he had maintained shattered completely!
“How... how could you... know that...”
This was his biggest secret! It was the deepest nightmare of his life! It was the first pledge of loyalty he offered when he joined the 'Emperor' organization!
He thought this secret would rot with him in his grave!
“I told you.”
Chen Mo slowly opened his eyes, and there was no trace of pity in his dark gaze.
“I can hear your heartbeat.”
“And I can see the dirty past hidden within the sound of your heart.”
Liu Feng’s psychological defenses completely collapsed.
He was no longer the dedicated operative ready to face death.
He was just a wretch, stripped of all his secrets and exposed naked in the sunlight.
“Kill me...”
He muttered distractedly, “Please, kill me...”
“Death?”
Chen Mo smiled.
“That would be too easy for you.”
He glanced at Su Qingxue beside him.
Su Qingxue understood immediately.
She stepped forward and picked up a syringe filled with clear liquid.
“This is a highly concentrated muscle relaxant,” Chen Mo’s voice was like that of a judge from hell. “After injection, you will be completely paralyzed, unable to move, unable to speak, and even unable to breathe.”
“But your mind will be exceptionally clear.”
Liu Feng’s pupils dilated to the extreme due to terror!
“And then.”
Chen Mo pointed to the defibrillator.
“I will use this to stop your heart.”
“Allowing you to clearly experience the entire process of death.”
“Suffocation, coldness, darkness...”
“Then, I will use adrenaline to bring you back.”
“Once, twice, ten times, a hundred times...”
“Until you tell me everything I want to know.”
Chen Mo’s voice was soft, yet it pierced every one of Liu Feng’s nerves like ten thousand red-hot steel needles!
“Now.”
He looked at Liu Feng’s face, which was completely distorted by fear, and spoke slowly.
“Who is your handler?”
“Devil...”
A gasping, wheezing sound escaped Liu Feng’s throat, and tears and snot streamed down his face.
“You are a devil...”
He had completely broken down!
“I’ll talk! I’ll talk! I’ll tell you everything!”
He wailed desperately, like a dog!
“He... He doesn’t have a name! We all call him... ‘Raven’!”
“He is responsible for operations across the entire Asian region! He is the 'Emperor's' most trusted left hand!”
“Where is he?” Chen Mo pressed.
“I don’t know! I really don’t know! We only use a single line of contact!”
Liu Feng’s heart once again showed that strange pause that signified a lie.
Chen Mo smiled.
“It seems you still like playing games.”
He slightly raised his chin toward Su Qingxue.
Su Qingxue expressionlessly aimed the cold needle at Liu Feng’s carotid artery.
“No—!”
Liu Feng let out an inhuman shriek!
“I’ll talk! I’ll talk!”
“The docks! Jiangcheng Port! The Seventh Cargo Terminal!”
“There is a freighter registered in Panama called the 'Antares'! He... He is on that ship!”
The moment he finished speaking!
Liu Feng’s body suddenly stiffened violently!
His eyes were wide open, and black blood flowed from the corner of his mouth!
Then, he died instantly.
Remote control. A toxin capsule implanted in his body.
This was the final safeguard the “Emperor” prepared for every pawn.
Chen Mo showed no surprise whatsoever.
He simply looked out the window at the sky slowly being swallowed by the night.
“Raven...”
He murmured to himself, a cold curve appearing at the corner of his mouth.
“The Antares...”
“Captain Zhao.”
He picked up the intercom next to the bed.
“The fish has taken the bait.”
