239: blood pump

Chapter 239: The Blood Pump. White Dove's hand was steady.

He avoided the major blood vessels, drawing a tube of dark red blood precisely from the surface of the beating heart.

That blood was actually still lightly boiling in the test tube, emitting tiny bubbles.

"Perfect."

White Dove looked at the blood in the test tube, his eyes hazy, as if it were the most mellow fine wine in the world.

He quickly sealed the tube and tucked it into his chest.

Then he took out a yellow potion and applied it around Chen Mo's wound.

The wound began to scab over at a visible rate.

"Done."

White Dove packed up his case, stood up, and resumed his gentle and elegant demeanor.

"Pleasure doing business."

He picked up the case and turned toward the door.

"Wait."

Chen Mo called out to him.

"What? Need an additional service?" White Dove turned back.

"What's your number?" Chen Mo suddenly asked.

The air froze for a second.

Su Qingxue and Ninth Master were completely bewildered, not understanding what Chen Mo was saying.

But the smile vanished from White Dove's face.

He pushed up his glasses, the lenses reflecting the dim light of the air-raid shelter ceiling, obscuring his eyes.

"I don't understand what you mean."

"Hell-003 asked me to send his regards."

Chen Mo was taking a gamble.

He was betting that the number in the warning wasn't just a codename, but a circle.

White Dove's body stiffened slightly.

Then, he smiled again.

This time, the smile had less pretense and more amusement.

"003? That's a big-mouthed lunatic."

White Dove reached out and pulled open the iron door.

The sound of sewage rushed in from outside.

"It seems you've reached that level. Since that's the case, as a doctor, I'll give you one more piece of medical advice for free."

He didn't turn back, speaking with his back to Chen Mo:

"The 'ingredients' in Jiang City haven't been fresh lately. That woman in the cheongsam has too big an appetite and has flipped the table."

"If you want to live, stay far away from the 'Lighthouse'."

"That is the doctors' dining table, not yours."

With that, he walked out of the air-raid shelter.

The iron door slammed shut behind him.

Chen Mo let out a long breath, as if shedding a thousand-pound burden, and collapsed onto the floor.

"What does that mean?"

Su Qingxue leaned over to check the wound on Chen Mo's chest.

The wound was indeed treated very well; even the deep tearing pain was gone.

"He is warning us."

Chen Mo looked at the closed iron door, his expression dark and unreadable.

"Warning about what?"

"Jiang City..."

Chen Mo touched his chest. It was no longer burning, but he could feel that the heart seemed angry because it had lost that tube of blood.

"Jiang City is about to become a giant self-service restaurant."

"And we might all be on the menu."

Ninth Master finally recovered and tried to move his legs.

"Amazing!"

He slapped his thigh in surprise, "It really doesn't hurt anymore! And I feel... full of strength!"

Ninth Master jumped up from the ground and took a few steps. Apart from a slight limp, it was barely noticeable that his leg had been broken moments ago.

"This medicine is divine! How much is one dose? If I could get some later..."

"Ninth Master."

Chen Mo interrupted his excitement, "Check your vehicle."

"Vehicle? That pile of scrap metal is still at the power plant; it must have been blown up long ago," Ninth Master was startled.

"I mean the backup vehicle."

Chen Mo pointed to a piece of canvas deep inside the air-raid shelter, "You wouldn't only have canned food here."

Ninth Master chuckled and rubbed his hands.

"He who knows me, knows me, Mr. Chen."

He limped over and yanked away the dust-covered canvas.

Underneath was a modified heavy motorcycle.

Both wheels were doubled in width, the exhaust pipe was as thick as a cannon barrel, and the body was welded with anti-collision steel beams and spikes.

"Wild Boar' Number Two."

Ninth Master patted the seat, "While it can't compare to the mobile fortress 'rhinoceros', it's definitely fast enough for a getaway. As long as that flying female ghost isn't chasing us..."

BOOM!!!

Ninth Master hadn't finished speaking.

A massive noise suddenly came from directly above their heads.

The entire air-raid shelter shook violently, and dust rained down.

Su Qingxue's face changed, and she quickly looked at the tactical terminal on her wrist.

The screen was filled with static, but she could vaguely see a huge red energy source moving at high speed.

"She's above!"

Su Qingxue's voice trembled slightly, "Ruan Qiushui... She's sweeping the surface!"

"No."

Chen Mo pushed himself up using the table, his gaze sharp.

"She's looking for food."

"The explosion just now didn't kill her; it only made her hungrier."

Chen Mo grabbed the half-bottle of water on the table and gulped it down.

"Let's go."

"Where to?" Ninth Master swung onto the motorcycle and turned the key.

The engine roared like a beast.

Chen Mo flipped onto the back seat and patted Su Qingxue, signaling her to sit in the middle.

"To the Lighthouse."

"Are you crazy?!" Su Qingxue turned back and glared at him, "That doctor just said that's their dining table! Do you want to die?"

"The most dangerous place is the safest place."

Chen Mo looked toward the end of the dark tunnel, a cold smile curling on his lips.

"Besides, Wang Daoming is there."

"Since this meal must start, I must be one of the people seated at the table, not one on the plate."

"Ninth Master, drive!"

Roar—

The motorcycle roared out of the air-raid shelter, like a black bullet shooting into the even deeper darkness.

And behind them.

On the test tube rack carelessly left behind by White Dove, a drop of dark red blood silently slid off and dripped onto the tabletop.

Hiss.

The tabletop was corroded, leaving a small, charred hole.

That drop of blood was still wriggling... BOOM—

The moment 'Wild Boar' Number Two burst out of the ground, the retinas of the three people were filled with blinding red light.

It wasn't neon lights.

It was fire.

The entire street was burning.

The air was filled with the smell of burnt plastic, the stench of carbonized protein, and the acrid sensation left by overloaded high-energy particles.

"Hold on tight!"

Ninth Master shrieked and violently pitched the bike's front end down.

The massive motorcycle tires crushed an overturned police car, creating a screeching sound of twisting metal.

At the intersection ahead, a thirty-story building was slowly tilting.

Midway up the building, a neat cut was still dripping molten steel.

That was Ruan Qiushui's handiwork.

"That crazy woman!"

Su Qingxue gripped Chen Mo's belt tightly, the wind tearing her voice apart, "She's leveling this entire district!"

Chen Mo didn't look back.

He stared straight ahead.

The heart that had just been injected was pounding powerfully against his ribs.

Thump. Thump.

With every beat, a surge of heat flooded his body.

It wasn't strength.

It was craving.

A craving for the lives of those dying around him.

White Dove was right; this heart was a pump, but it was also a mouth.

It wanted to eat.

"Don't take the main road!"

Chen Mo patted Ninth Master's shoulder and pointed to a small alley full of rubble on the side, "Go toward the Kowloon Walled City area; the Lighthouse exclusion zone is right past there."

"That area is full of roadblocks set up by gangs!"

Ninth Master yelled, "And the road is too narrow for this bike..."

"Charge through."

Chen Mo's voice was cold, "Charge through, or you'll be swallowed by the red light behind us."

Ninth Master glanced in the rearview mirror.

Several kilometers away, a huge cloud of red energy was flying close to the ground, causing buildings to collapse like building blocks wherever it passed.

"Damn it, let's risk it all!"
