313: Chapter 313 The Dead Men Are Noisy Here
Chapter 313: The Dead Here Are Quite Noisy. The red light of the surveillance camera flickered twice.
Like a mocking wink.
"I'm waiting for you below."
That childish voice rang out again.
This time it wasn't in his head, but through the PA speakers in the corridor.
The voice, accompanied by electrical static, echoed through the empty metal passage, sounding exceptionally eerie.
"Brother, it's so cold here."
Chen Mo remained expressionless.
He raised his left hand and flipped the bird at the camera.
"Terrible acting."
"Chen Nian never complains about the cold," Chen Mo said coldly.
That girl, who grew up like a weed in the slums, would only smile and say it was perfect for freezing stolen, low-quality nutrient paste, even when her lips turned purple from the cold in a heavy blizzard.
The voice on the PA system came to an abrupt halt.
"Signal source locked."
green text marked an arrow on his retina, pointing deep into the corridor. "Sublevel three. It seems that's the Core District of this 'Slaughterhouse'."
Chen Mo stepped forward.
The Old Blind Man followed tremblingly, his eyes not daring to look at the glass vats on either side.
But the things inside those vats seemed very interested in him.
Glug.
A "semi-finished product" with only an upper body, soaking in formalin, suddenly opened its eyes.
Its eyeballs had no pupils, only a ghastly white cloudiness.
A withered hand slammed against the glass wall.
"Help... help..."
Faint bubbles rose from its mouth.
"Don't look."
"Even if you look, you can't save them," Chen Mo said without turning back.
"This is 'wetware'."
The Old Blind Man's voice was shaking as he clutched the spectrum analyzer in his arms tighter.
"A banned project from Biotech back in the day. Using living human brains instead of crystal chips to process ultra-high-density data streams. These lunatics... they're using human brains as CPUs!"
"How's the efficiency?"
Chen Mo asked casually.
"What?" The Old Blind Man was stunned for a moment.
"I mean, the computing efficiency of this thing."
"High... very high." The Old Blind Man swallowed hard. "The parallel processing capability of a human brain is ten thousand times that of a silicon-based crystal chip. But the side effect is..."
"They go insane."
Chen Mo finished his sentence.
He stopped in front of a massive floor-standing vat.
What was inside wasn't a person.
It was a giant mass of flesh made from dozens of brains stitched together.
Countless tubes were inserted into it, making it look like a throbbing tumor.
"It's not just insanity."
green text added, "These brains still retain memories and emotions from before death. Connecting them together is like locking hundreds of psychiatric patients in a room with no exit and letting them scream at each other. The noise in this place is staggering; it's just that you can't hear it."
Chen Mo indeed couldn't hear those psychic screams.
But he could feel them.
That dense, malicious gaze was sticking to him through the glass wall.
Bzzzt—
The lights overhead suddenly began to flicker.
The airtight door at the end of the corridor slowly opened.
An even stronger scent of blood wafted out.
Accompanied by the heavy sound of metal clashing.
Thud.
Thud.
As if some behemoth was approaching.
"Looks like our receptionist has arrived."
Chen Mo flexed the fingers of his left hand, the alloy joints making crisp clicking sounds.
Out of the shadows stepped a monster.
It was three meters tall.
It wore a tattered straitjacket, and its exposed skin had a deathly gray metallic sheen.
There were no facial features on its head, only a single, massive red cyclopean camera.
And on its back, it carried a transparent life-support vat.
Inside the vat soaked a brain that was still throbbing.
"Subject T-9."
The voice on the PA system changed.
It was no longer the childish girl, but a cold, synthesized voice.
"Eliminate the intruder."
The monster's single eye glowed intensely red.
It dragged a two-meter-long fire axe, its blade covered in dark red rust and bloodstains.
"Roar—!!!"
The monster let out an inhuman roar; the sound didn't come from its throat, but from the vibration of a speaker on its back.
It charged.
The ground shook with its footsteps.
"Run! Run fast!"
Terrified, the Old Blind Man turned around, wanting to slip back.
But the airtight door behind them had long since been locked tight.
"Stay back."
Chen Mo didn't retreat.
Facing the monster that was charging like a tank, he instead quickened his pace.
Red steam gushed from the vents along his spine.
Core Overload.
One hundred and twenty percent.
"Die!"
The monster swung its giant axe, bringing it down with a whistling wind.
If this strike landed, it could slice even an armored vehicle in half.
Chen Mo sidestepped.
The axe blade fell past the tip of his nose, embedding itself deeply into the steel floor and kicking up a shower of sparks.
In that very instant.
Chen Mo threw a punch.
This was a full-power strike from his new left arm.
The thrusters at his elbow spat out blue tail-flames, adding massive kinetic energy to his fist.
Bang!
A muffled thud.
Chen Mo's fist slammed into the monster's belly.
That seemingly indestructible body rippled like water in an instant.
A section of the monster's back suddenly bulged out.
Then.
The life-support vat carried on its back exploded.
Crash!
Glass shards and nutrient solution splashed everywhere.
The brain responsible for controlling the body was instantly vibrated into mush.
The monster's massive frame stiffened.
Then, like a falling mountain, it collapsed heavily to its knees.
"One punch?"
The Old Blind Man, huddled in the corner, was dumbfounded. "What... what kind of monstrous strength is this?"
Chen Mo pulled back his hand.
The heat sinks on his left arm fully deployed, venting a blast of white, high-temperature gas.
"It's not over yet."
Chen Mo stared at the corpse.
Although the monster's body was motionless, the red cyclopean camera was still rotating.
"Host function cessation detected."
"Initiating backup protocol."
"Self-destruct sequence countdown..."
Beep beep beep beep—
Rapid alarm sounds emanated from within the monster.
"Shit!"
Chen Mo's expression changed.
He grabbed a metal console weighing hundreds of pounds nearby and hurled it at the monster like a brick.
Then he turned and lunged toward the Old Blind Man.
"Get down!"
Boom—!!!
The violent explosion unleashed a storm of blood and gore in the narrow corridor.
The monster's body was blown to bits, and highly corrosive body fluids sprayed everywhere.
The flesh on Chen Mo's back sizzled as it was burned.
But he didn't make a sound.
Once the shockwave passed, he pushed aside the wreckage of the console on top of him and stood up.
"Can you still walk?"
He kicked the Old Blind Man beneath him.
The Old Blind Man was nearly crushed breathless, his face covered in the monster's blood and shredded flesh.
"Two... two ribs are broken."
The Old Blind Man grimaced as he scrambled up, distressedly feeling the device in his arms. "Fortunately, the spectrum analyzer is fine."
Chen Mo ignored his miserly behavior.
He walked over to the pile of mangled meat and picked up the red cyclopean camera that had been blown away.
The camera was still connected to a few wires.
"Brother..."
The little girl's voice came from the camera once more.
Carrying a hint of a weird smile.
"You've grown stronger."
"Before, you couldn't even beat the stray dog next door."
