209: Breaking the deadlock in closed loop

Chapter 209: Breaking the Closed Loop "Li Ke!" Chen Mo roared into his earpiece, "Haven't you found a weakness yet?"

"I can't find it!"

Li Ke's voice carried a hint of sobbing, "These guys aren't networked! They're completely independent closed-loop systems! I can't hack into them!"

Whoosh!

An iron fist smashed toward the back of Chen Mo's head with the sound of rushing wind.

Chen Mo rolled away clumsily, and the floor tiles where he had been standing shattered instantly.

The power gap was too large.

If this continued, within three minutes, all three of them would be turned into meat paste on the ground.

"Twinkle, twinkle, little star..."

That childish humming suddenly rang out again.

It was coming from the black case right by Chen Mo's feet.

Thump... thump... thump... the heartbeat inside the case began to accelerate, becoming hurried and manic.

It felt as if a steel needle had been driven into Chen Mo's head; the sharp pain made him almost unable to hold his knife.

That was the brainwave interference from "Number 0."

But in that instant, Chen Mo captured a detail.

The four Scavengers, who were about to deliver a fatal blow, suddenly experienced an extremely subtle stutter in their movements.

It was Li Ke a network lag while watching a video.

Only for a tenth of a second.

An ordinary person wouldn't have noticed it at all, but Chen Mo heard it.

Their identical heartbeats skipped a beat.

"So that's how it is."

Chen Mo wiped the blood from his face, his lips curling into a grimace.

Closed-loop system, my foot.

Independent calculation, my foot.

It was all nonsense.

As long as it's a machine, it's afraid of interference.

"Wang Daoming!"

Chen Mo suddenly let out a roar and kicked the black constant-temperature case.

This kick used no finesse; the case rolled Li Ke a ball into the middle of the four hulking men.

"What are you doing?!"

Wang Daoming, who had been sitting calmly and confidently, suddenly changed expression. "Don't damage my specimen!"

"Specimen?"

Chen Mo gave a savage laugh, suddenly reversing his grip on the meat cleaver. "That's your ancestor!"

He didn't attack the hulking men.

He raised his knife and hacked fiercely at the huge glass jar nearby.

Crash!

The reinforced glass shattered at the impact.

Green nutrient solution poured out Li Ke a flood, and the suspended brain fell to the ground with a splat, crumbling into pieces Li Ke a block of tofu.

"No!!!" Wang Daoming screamed in anguish.

But it wasn't over yet.

Chen Mo grabbed the thick cable that had originally been connected to the brain; it was still sizzling with blue electrical sparks.

"Su Qingxue, cover your ears!"

After roaring, Chen Mo directly jabbed the high-voltage cable into the black constant-temperature case.

Sizzle—Boom!

This strike didn't just conduct electricity.

The high-voltage current instantly pierced the case's outer shell, yet it didn't incinerate the organism inside; instead, it seemed to open the floodgates for some kind of violent energy.

"Ah—!!!"

An extremely sharp scream, one that couldn't possibly be produced by human vocal cords, erupted from the damaged case.

This wasn't sound.

It was a mental shockwave.

Visible ripples in the air exploded outward with the case as the center.

The four previously invincible Scavengers suddenly seemed as if their tendons had been pulled, their entire bodies twitching violently.

The red lights on their chest pacemakers flashed wildly, emitting ear-piercing alarms.

"Beep—Error! Logical conflict! Neuronal overload!"

In the face of "Number 0" and her terrifying brainwaves, the so-called perfect algorithms inside them were Li Ke an abacus meeting a quantum computer—they collapsed instantly.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

The four hulking men clutched their heads and knelt painfully on the ground, smashing four large craters into the floor.

The titanium alloy skeletons they were so proud of had now become cages imprisoning them.

"How is this possible..."

The purple clay teapot in Wang Daoming's hand fell to the ground, shattering into pieces.

He looked in horror at the case emitting black smoke. "This is impossible! She was under deep anesthesia! How dare you stimulate her!"

"Only a madman understands a madman."

Chen Mo stepped over the nutrient solution and shattered glass covering the floor.

His nose was also bleeding; that mental shock had affected him too, but he held out.

Because his will was much harder than those machines that only knew how to execute programs.

He walked up to a still-twitching Scavenger.

The hulking man was still trying to reboot his system, his mechanical eyes spinning wildly.

"Perfect combat algorithm?"

Chen Mo raised his meat cleaver. "I wonder if this algorithm taught you how to defend against this move."

Puchi!

The blade met no resistance, precisely stabbing into the gap of the transparent device on the man's chest.

Chen Mo twisted his wrist.

Crack.

The nuclear-powered mechanical heart stopped beating.

The red light in the man's eyes instantly went out, and he slumped to the ground Li Ke a pile of scrap metal.

Chen Mo pulled out the knife, bringing with it a mixture of black machine oil and red blood.

He turned around and looked at the old man who had already shrunk into the corner of the sofa.

The basement was very quiet.

Only the now somewhat hoarse humming of "Number 0" continued to echo.

"Twinkle, twinkle... little star..."

At this moment, this nursery rhyme was more terrifying than any death knell.

"Officer Chen... let's talk this out."

The elegance on Wang Daoming's face had vanished completely; he shivered and shrank back. "Do you want money? I can give you plenty. I have a Swiss bank account..."

"Director Wang."

Chen Mo interrupted him, stepping onto the pristine white platform one step at a time.

With every step, he left a bloody footprint on the expensive carpet.

"You said just now that you didn't Li Ke my eyes."

Chen Mo walked to the coffee table and leaned down, his blood-stained face almost touching Wang Daoming's nose.

"Now, take another close look."

Chen Mo pointed to his own bloodshot but frighteningly bright eyes.

"In these eyes, what do you see?"

Wang Daoming's body was stiff, his teeth chattering.

In those eyes, he saw no greed, no fear, not even anger.

There was only a dead, silent coldness.

Just Li Ke... the blade of a scalpel.

"I... I see..."

"You see judgment."

Chen Mo said softly, "And the time of your death."

"Don't kill me!"

Wang Daoming suddenly shouted in a breakdown, pulling a remote control from his robe. "There are bombs buried in this building! If I let go, the entire basement will collapse! We'll all die together!"

The red light on the remote flashed, Li Ke a mocking eye.

Su Qingxue and Ninth Master had just rushed up; seeing this, they immediately stopped in their tracks.

"Don't be impulsive." Su Qingxue held her gun, her palms drenched in sweat.

"Chen Mo, get back!" Wang Daoming roared hysterically. "Get a car ready for me! I'm leaving this place!"

Chen Mo looked at the remote control.

Then, he smiled.

He smiled with disdain, just as Wang Daoming had looked at them earlier.

"What are you laughing at?" Wang Daoming felt his skin crawl.

"I'm laughing because you're an amateur."

Chen Mo pointed to his ear. "Do you think I can't hear it?"

"What?"

"The battery in that remote."

Chen Mo said flatly, "It's been dead for a long time. The capacitor inside drained out half a minute ago."

Wang Daoming froze, instinctively glancing at the indicator light on the remote.

The light was still on.

"That's just LED afterglow."

Chen Mo suddenly struck.

Snap!

He grabbed Wang Daoming's wrist that was holding the remote.

Crack!

The sound of bone fracturing was crisp and pleasant.

"Ah!!!" Wang Daoming screamed as he released his grip.

The remote control fell to the floor, its back cover popping open.

It was empty inside.

The batteries had been shaken loose during the earlier chaos.

"As a doctor, you're far too imprecise."

Chen Mo kicked Wang Daoming to the ground and stepped on his chest.

"Now."

Chen Mo raised the meat cleaver, its tip hovering three centimeters above Wang Daoming's eyeball.

"Tell me, what exactly is Prometheus doing on that island?"

"And, who exactly signed off on that 'Wind Listener Project' concerning me?"

Watching the drop of blood about to fall into his eye, Wang Daoming finally understood one thing.

In front of this madman, his money, his power, and his so-called technology were all utter bullshit.

"I'll talk... I'll talk..."

Wang Daoming pointed tremblingly toward a lead door in the deepest part of the basement.

"The answers... are all in the 'Zero Archive.'"

"But once you go in, don't ever expect to come out."

"That place is the true hell."
