31: Chapter 31 The Mysterious Female Neighbor
The old butler replied, "Mr. Jiang, you are too kind. I will convey your message accurately."
Back inside the car, Jiang Jing watched thoughtfully as the gates of Manor No. 3 slowly closed. Who exactly was this Su Yingxue? Why was she so interested in him, her "new neighbor"?
As the car drove through the gates of Manor No. 1, Jiang Yan was already waiting in front of the main building. She had changed into a navy blue silk qipao for the evening, her hair styled in a vintage bun, making her look like a classical oil painting under the moonlight.
"Mr. Jiang, welcome back." Jiang Yan bowed slightly.
Jiang Jing waved his hand. "Check this out first."
He handed the bottle of Romanée-Conti to Jiang Yan. The butler took the bottle, professionally inspected the seal and label, and a flash of surprise crossed her eyes. "Romanée-Conti... This bottle was sold at last year's Sotheby's auction for 280,000 USD."
"It seems our new neighbor is quite generous." Jiang Jing took off his coat and handed it to Jiang Yan. "Look into who Su Yingxue from Manor No. 3 is."
Jiang Yan paused imperceptibly. "Miss Su? She has already contacted you?"
Jiang Jing keenly caught this anomaly. "You know her?"
"I've only heard of her." Jiang Yan quickly resumed her professional expression. "The only daughter of the Su Group, returned from studying in Switzerland, and rumored to be a rare talent in the business world."
Jiang Jing nodded without pressing further. However, he noticed that when Jiang Yan mentioned Su Yingxue, her fingers unconsciously twisted the hem of her clothes—a detail extremely rare for the usually calm and composed beautiful butler.
"Prepare yourself; I need to return the favor to Manor No. 3 tomorrow." Jiang Jing walked toward the stairs. "See what suitable gifts we have at home and help me pick one out."
Back in his bedroom, Jiang Jing took a cold shower. When he came out wrapped in a bathrobe, he found that Jiang Yan had already properly stored the bottle of red wine.
His phone screen lit up with a message from Jiang Yan: "Su Yingxue, 26 years old, daughter of Su Yuanshan, Chairman of the Su Group, PhD in Economics from Cambridge University, fluent in five languages. Ranked 3rd on last year's Forbes Asia 30 Under 30 list. Manor No. 3 was a gift from her father for her 22nd birthday, but she has lived in Switzerland for years and only recently returned to the country."
A photo followed. Jiang Jing opened it and couldn't help but admire—what an ice-cold beauty.
In the photo, the woman stood in the snow wearing white, her black hair cascading like a waterfall, her skin whiter than the snow. Most captivating were her eyes—cold as frost, yet shining with the wisdom of someone who saw through everything.
She was not the type of gaudy beauty with an influencer face, but possessed a nobility and elegance that emanated from her very bones, as if she were born to stand in the spotlight and receive the admiration of the masses.
"Interesting..." Jiang Jing put down his phone and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window. From this angle, he could just make out the silhouette of Manor No. 3 hidden in the night.
Why would a 26-year-old business prodigy be interested in an "upstart" like him? Was it truly just a neighborhood greeting, or was there an ulterior motive?
Meanwhile, inside the study of Manor No. 3, Butler Zhou Shan stood respectfully before an antique desk.
The high-backed chair behind the desk slowly turned, revealing Su Yingxue's stunningly beautiful face.
"He said he would send someone to return the favor tomorrow?" Su Yingxue's voice was like the clashing of ice and snow, cold yet melodious. Her slender fingers picked up a fountain pen, examining it closely under the light. "...Interesting."
"Miss, this Mr. Jiang does not seem as simple as the investigation report describes," Joseph said in a low voice. "His demeanor and speech are nothing like an upstart's. And he has a very unique aura."
(Jiang Jing: Just kidding, I have Master-level martial arts skills.)
Su Yingxue's lips curled slightly upward. "How could the owner of Shanshui Manor No. 1 be simple?" She gently placed the pen on the table. "Continue observing, but do not alert the target."
"Yes." Butler Zhou Shan hesitated for a moment. "There is one more thing... Jiang Yan is working as the butler at Manor No. 1."
For the first time, Su Yingxue's expression flickered. "Jiang Yan? The one from the Jiang Family..."
"Yes, it is her."
Su Yingxue suddenly chuckled. "It's getting more and more interesting. It seems our Mr. Jiang is hiding quite a few secrets..."
She stood up and walked toward the floor-to-ceiling window, the moonlight outlining the perfect profile of her face.
Su Yingxue's gaze turned toward the distant lights of Manor No. 1. "I really want to see if this suddenly risen 'investment genius' is real gold or just plated copper."
Just as Jiang Jing was about to pull out his phone to play a few games, his phone rang—it was Wang Hao.
"Hey, old classmate!" Wang Hao's voice was distorted with excitement. "Do you know how popular that livestream was just now? The peak viewership broke one million! My account gained two hundred thousand followers in just one morning! The platform is about to push me to the homepage!"
"Congratulations." Jiang Jing responded with a smile.
"Jiang Jing, no, no, Brother Jiang!" Wang Hao said eagerly. "The platform wants to do an exclusive interview with you! Just chat about your entrepreneurial experience and car collection! We can negotiate the pay!"
"I'm not interested." Jiang Jing refused directly.
"Don't say that!" Wang Hao wouldn't give up. "Do you know that the whole internet is searching for the 'lamborghini veneno owner' right now? Your information will be doxxed sooner or later! It's better to take the initiative and control the narrative!"
Just kidding, if someone with God-level hacking skills got doxxed, it would be a joke!
This remark did give Jiang Jing an idea; he might as well proactively shape a public persona. In any case, he could easily fabricate a watertight backstory—it would save him a lot of trouble.
"Alright... let me think about it." Jiang Jing's tone softened slightly.
"That's great!" Wang Hao was overjoyed. "How about this: I'll organize a get-together tonight, just a few old classmates, absolutely no talk of work! Just catching up! The location is the 'Yeweiyang' bar in University Town, seven o'clock, how about it?"
Jiang Jing thought about it, and since he had nothing else to do, he agreed. "Fine, but I might arrive a bit late."
"No problem! I'll wait for you!" Wang Hao hung up the phone happily.
Lying on the bed ready to start his game, Jiang Jing's phone rang again. This time it was a message from Xinxin: "Brother Jiang, I'm home! Mom scolded me, but it's fine~ [Tongue] I showed her the living expenses you gave me, and she immediately stopped talking [Giggle]. By the way, I told my mom the money was earned from livestreaming, don't blow my cover! Also, I told my best friends about you, and they all want to meet you! [Shy]"
The text was followed by a string of emojis and a few selfies. Xinxin's smile in the photos was radiant, showing no sign of the sadness from when they had just parted.
Jiang Jing couldn't help but smile. "Mm, don't worry."
