The wind at this height felt different.

Colder. Cleaner. Quiet.

Lucifer stepped out of the black car, his coat catching the breeze as he adjusted the collar. The rooftop entrance shimmered with glass and gold, light bouncing off the polished floor like firelight.

Ella was already waiting at the top.

She turned when she heard his steps, her eyes lighting up just a little. Hair brushed to the side, a soft silk dress the color of wine clung to her figure. Simple makeup. No necklace. Just her.

He blinked once.

"...You clean up well," Lucifer said, walking up beside her.

Ella smirked, folding her arms. "I could say the same, Vampire Lord."

Lucifer chuckled under his breath. "Let’s go in."

The maître d’ didn’t even ask for names. The table was already prepared. Top floor. Candlelit. With a view that stretched over the sleeping city, framed by stars and towers. The kind of place that made even silence feel like music.



They walked past murmuring elites, sharply dressed guests who glanced up once and looked away twice as fast. The women whispered. The men stiffened.

Eyes followed them.

Not because of the clothes.

Because of the man.

Lucifer Origin wasn’t someone you mistook for anyone else.

And Ella? She didn’t seem to care. She walked right beside him, heels clicking in rhythm, owning the moment with every step.

They sat.

Wine poured.

Steak and pasta arrived quickly—two dishes untouched by time or trend.

Ella took a sip first. Then another.

Lucifer didn’t touch his drink.

She watched him for a while before speaking.

"I’m glad you came."

Lucifer looked at her. "I said I would."

"I know," she said, smiling softly. "But you always have that face that says ’I’ve got ten more important things to do.’"

He leaned back, hands folded. "I do."

She rolled her eyes, amused. "See?"

A few minutes passed. The city lights flickered below like stars trapped in glass.

Then—

"I love you."

Lucifer stopped moving.

Ella kept her gaze on him. Calm. Steady.

"I’m not saying it because I feel like I should," she continued. "And not because you saved the world. I’m saying it because I’ve known it for a while now. Since before the world turned upside down."

Lucifer didn’t speak.

Ella looked at her plate. Then back at him.

"I want us to be together. Officially. No games. No guessing."

Lucifer looked out the window. His fingers tapped the table once.

"You don’t know what you’re asking," he said quietly.

"I think I do."

He exhaled slowly, like someone dragging breath through fire.

"I care about you, Ella," Lucifer said. "A lot. That’s why I have to say no."

The words didn’t hit like a hammer.

They cut like cold.

"...Why?"

Lucifer turned back to her. His eyes weren’t glowing—but there was something heavier in them now.

"I don’t want to hurt you. That’s the truth."

"That’s not a reason."

"It is when I’m telling you who I really am."

She blinked, confused.

Lucifer spoke flatly now. Not cruel. Just honest.

"I’ve never wanted to be with just one person. Not since I was young. I’ve always wanted more than that. A harem, if you want the word. A clan of women I care for. Love, even. But not just one."

Ella stared at him.

"I know that sounds selfish," he continued. "Maybe it is. But it’s how I’ve always been. It’s one of the reasons I rejected Remu."

That name made her chest tighten.

"You... you said no to Remu because of that?"



"She wanted me all to herself. She didn’t want to share. That would’ve never worked."

Ella’s jaw clenched slightly. "And you think I’d be okay with that? Sharing you?"

Lucifer didn’t answer right away.

"I don’t know," he admitted. "But you’re braver than most. Smarter. And you understand the world better than anyone I know. That’s why I’m telling you now. So you can walk away if you need to."

Ella stared at the candle.

For a long time, she didn’t speak.

Then—

"...You’re not giving me much of a choice, are you?"

Lucifer looked at her. "You always have a choice."

"Do you love me?"

Silence.

She looked up again. "Lucifer. Answer me."

He met her eyes.

"Yes."

Her heart skipped.

She wasn’t sure if it made things better or worse.

"But I won’t change who I am," he said. "I won’t lie to you just to make things easier."

"I’m not asking you to," she whispered. "I just... I didn’t expect this."

Lucifer leaned forward slightly.

"I’ll always protect you," he said. "I’ll always be honest with you. I’ll give you more than most men can even dream of giving. But I won’t be something I’m not."

Ella looked down again. Her hands clenched around the stem of her glass.

Then she laughed. Quiet. Tired.

"I hate how calm you are about this."

Lucifer tilted his head. "You wanted the truth."

"I did. And you gave it. That’s the worst part."

More silence.

The waiter came to refill the wine. Neither of them noticed.

Finally, Ella stood.

Lucifer looked up at her.

She walked around the table slowly... and sat beside him.

Not across.

Beside.

She leaned her head on his shoulder. "I’ll stay."

Lucifer blinked.

"But on one condition."

He didn’t speak.

She looked up. "I won’t be second to anyone."

He smirked. "You never were."

"And if this ever starts to hurt me, I’ll walk."

"Fair."

"Swear it," she said.

Lucifer turned his head toward her. Their eyes met again.

"I swear."

She closed her eyes, breathing him in. "Good."

Lucifer rested a hand gently on hers.



For a long moment, they just sat there. Watching the city.

The storm had passed. The war was still coming. The night was still theirs.

And for once—

Lucifer Origin, the Devil, the Vampire Lord, the monster behind the throne...

...was just a man sitting beside a woman who loved him.

Even if love didn’t come in one shape.
