They didn't know that the actual performance benchmark of the Core Processor could only reach around 130 points; let alone competing with the Ryzen R7, it couldn't even compare with the weakest Ryzen R3.
After all, although Shuguang Technology’s Ryzen Processor and the Core Processor both use 90-nanometer, Shuguang Technology’s instruction set architecture, X86-S, is already different from the original X86 architecture.
The Dawn X86-S Instruction Set abandoned decades of accumulated historical baggage, optimized its structure, specifically aimed for high performance, and finally, benefited from the assistance of a super-large cache.
Under these circumstances, let alone the monkey-version Ryzen Processor using 90-nanometer, even the true first-generation Core Processor released in 2006, which used the 65 nanometer process, could not compare with it.
In this situation, Intel either has to expend enormous effort and cost, then utilize the advantage of the 65 nanometer process, using more transistors to forcibly defeat the Ryzen Processor.
Or, like Shuguang Technology, they abandon decades of accumulated historical baggage, optimize the X86 Instruction Set structure, and develop their own X86-S Instruction Set.
Otherwise, trying to defeat Shuguang Technology at the same level of process technology would truly be a lot of effort for little gain!
It’s like a lean, short man and a tall, obese man resembling a giant.
Although theoretically, every step the giant-like obese man takes is equivalent to 2 steps of the lean, short man, in an actual race, the lean, short man would win.
Because the obese man has too much fat on his body; every step he takes requires him to fight against gravity and against the many layers of fat on his body!
It's a bit exaggerated to say he breathes heavily with every step, but the reality is that he cannot fully utilize his advantage of being tall like a giant and taking steps equivalent to 2 of others.
So the winner is not the obese man, but the lean, short man who can exert his full body strength.
Therefore, Intel either continues to increase the advantage of its large size, which is the leading advantage of the 65 nanometer process.
Ignoring the fat that prevents him from exerting his full strength, diligently adding more transistors to make himself even larger.
Becoming a super giant whose every step is not 2 steps, but 4 or 6 steps.
Or, he loses that fat, develops his own X86-S Instruction Set, and becomes lean and powerful!
And if Intel actually does this, it would be bad news for Shuguang Technology, as the West genuinely has a lead in process technology.
They have successfully solved the problem of the 65 nanometer process and have produced processor chips using the 65 nanometer process; the only problem they face now is how to improve the yield rate for large-scale mass production.
So, Intel, with its leading process technology, is equivalent to a tall, obese man whose every step is equivalent to 2 steps of others.
At this point, if Intel sheds that fat, abandons decades of historical baggage, and optimizes its instruction set structure to become equally lean.
Then for the shorter person, which is Shuguang Technology, it would be devastating news!
Fortunately, however, technological research and development must adhere to scientific reality; it's not something that can instantly appear just because you initiate a project.
Even Shuguang Technology took over a year to solve the problem of 90nm process chip production equipment.
Under these circumstances, even if Intel wants to shed that fat and develop its own X86-S Instruction Set and corresponding processor, it's impossible to complete it immediately; it would take at least two years.
Of course, they don't necessarily need to develop the X86-S Instruction Set to defeat Shuguang Technology, because they have the advantage of the 65 nanometer process!
Even with their X86 Instruction Set carrying a burden of historical baggage, given their giant-like massive body.
As long as the number of transistors is sufficient, miracles can be achieved, ultimately defeating the smaller Shuguang Technology with a massive number of transistors!
Of course, developing a new processor with more transistors also cannot be achieved in a short time; it would take at least one to two years.
So, Shuguang Technology still has one to two years. As long as Shuguang Technology also develops the 65 nanometer process within one or two years, the Dawn CPU can continue to maintain its leading edge.
