[Warning.]

[Armed personnel is approaching.]
[Current distance: seventy-eight meters.]
[Movement route: fallen forest belt on the northwest side, advancing using tree trunks for cover.]
[Weapon still in hand.]
[Note: Target has not given up on killing you.]
Lin Fan looked at those lines of text, his grip on the knife not loosening.
Yang Ningcong couldn't stand steadily; with his legs tied, he could only rely on Lin Fan choking his shoulder and neck to support himself.
His whole body felt weak, and with his back pressed against Lin Fan's chest, he could hear the sound of his own teeth chattering.
"Lin... Lin Fan..."
He squeezed out a few words from his throat.
"Don't do anything rash."
Lin Fan ignored him.
Half of Lin Fan's face was hidden behind Yang Ningcong's head, leaving only one eye exposed as he stared in the direction of the woods.
Three hundred meters had turned into dozens of meters.
Wang Laoliu was closing in.
This man was no reckless brute.
If it weren't for that idiot Yang Ningcong pushing him step by step, Lin Fan would definitely have been worn down to death by him.
Lin Fan pulled his wrist inward by half an inch.
The blade pressed against the flesh.
Yang Ningcong shuddered all over.
"Bro... Don't move! Don't move!"
He didn't even dare to swallow his saliva, the slight stinging sensation on his neck keeping his brain painfully clear.
He had heard people say before that people would think of many things at the brink of life and death.
It was a lie.
He couldn't think of anything right now.
There was only one thought in his mind: Don't cut me.
"Make him stop."
Lin Fan spoke.
Yang Ningcong was stunned for a moment.
"Who?"
The blade pressed further inward.
Yang Ningcong almost peed himself.
"Lao Liu! Wang Laoliu! Stop! Stop, you fucking bastard!"
He shouted toward the woods at the top of his lungs, his voice cracking horribly.
There was no echo in the woods.
Only the branches snapped by the tsunami swayed gently in the wind.
Lin Fan looked at the distance on his retina.
[Current distance: fifty-six meters.]
[Target speed decreasing.]
[Target is looking for a shooting angle.]
Lin Fan pushed Yang Ningcong forward by half a step.
With his feet bound, Yang Ningcong plunged forward, but Lin Fan yanked him back with his arm.
This sudden movement caused the blade wound on Yang Ningcong's neck to open up a bit more.
Beads of blood welled up, crawling down past his Adam's apple.
Not much.
Enough to be terrifying.
"Ah! It's bleeding! I'm bleeding!"
Yang Ningcong's voice went out of tune, "Am I going to die?"
Lin Fan said right against his ear, "If you say one more wrong word, I guarantee you'll die immediately."
Not far away, three bodyguards lay prone in the mud, not a single one daring to raise their head.
The Short-haired Bodyguard gritted his teeth and whispered, "Young Master Yang, don't provoke him."
"Shut up!" After Yang Ningcong cursed, the Short-haired Bodyguard buried his face back into the mud.
Now he finally saw things clearly.
This young master of theirs was a nuclear weapon in civilized society.
But here, he was fragile glassware.
And he came with his own built-in noise.
[Current distance: thirty meters.]
[Target has stopped.]
[Target is located behind the fallen tree trunk.]
[Target is raising his gun.]
Lin Fan's eyelids twitched.
Yang Ningcong still hadn't reacted.
On his retina, crimson characters popped up again.
[Warning.]
[Target's current aiming position: your knife-wielding right hand.]
[Intent: Wound the knife-wielding hand, forcing the blade away from the employer's neck.]
[Hit probability: one hundred percent.]
[Additional risk: Muscle spasms after being shot carry a probability of slitting the hostage's throat.]
Lin Fan glanced down at his right hand.
His right hand held the dagger in a reverse grip, the back of his hand exposed on the outside of Yang Ningcong's shoulder. The surface area wasn't large, but for a gunman like Lao Liu, it was enough.
Lin Fan did not pull back his hand.
If he pulled back, his momentum would drop.
Raising his voice, he shouted toward the woods, "Wang Laoliu."
Wang Laoliu didn't speak.
Lin Fan continued, "What you're aiming at right now is my right hand."
Yang Ningcong's eyes widened.
The three bodyguards also raised their heads slightly.
On the beach, Lao Liu lay prone behind the broken wood, the crosshairs in his scope pressing right against the outer edge of Lin Fan's right hand.
Hearing these words, his finger paused.
How did this guy figure it out?
The angle wasn't right.
The distance wasn't right.
Yang Ningcong's body was still blocking the middle.
He had even avoided the reflection from the scope.
Lao Liu suppressed his breathing very low.
He didn't respond.
Yet Lin Fan acted as if he could see the reticle inside his scope from over a hundred meters away.
"You can fire."
Lin Fan pressed the blade even tighter against Yang Ningcong's windpipe.
"If you hit my hand, whether my hand loosens or spasms, you know the result better than I do."
Yang Ningcong trembled like a sieve.
"Lao Liu! Don't shoot! Don't hit it! Don't fucking shoot!"
Lin Fan didn't let him stop.
The more broken Yang Ningcong's shouts became, the more it proved one thing.
This young master was afraid of death.
Scared to his very bones.
Lin Fan continued, "If you want to gamble, fine."
"Before I die, I'll slit his throat first."
"You can go back and explain to the Yang Family, saying your marksmanship was good and your hand was fast, it's just that the young master's neck didn't cooperate."
There was still no echo behind the broken wood.
But the text on his retina changed.
[Target has not pulled the trigger.]
[Target's aiming point has shifted.]
[Current aiming position: outside of Yang Ningcong's left shoulder.]
Lin Fan couldn't even be bothered to smile.
"Don't switch shoulders."
"If you shoot his shoulder, he'll still die."
Wang Laoliu then switched to Lin Fan's legs.
"If you shoot his legs, he'll still die."
"If you shoot my chest, the moment I fall down, he'll die even faster."
He paused.
"Unless you can blow off my brain and hand at the same time."
"If you had that ability, you wouldn't have had to change positions for your previous three shots."
These words weren't loud, but they were vicious enough.
Lao Liu narrowed his eyes behind the tree trunk.
This young man was no ordinary survivor.
It wasn't just fast reflexes.
He knew how to push the risk right back.
There were quite a few people who used their employers as shields, but this was the first time he had seen someone hold it so steadily while daring to break down every single shooting option and explain it to the gunman.
What was even more troublesome was that he was right.
If he fired now, no matter where he aimed, there was a probability of killing Yang Ningcong.
If the employer died, staying alive would be meaningless for him.
He wouldn't get the money, and a pile of subsequent troubles would follow.
The Yang Family wouldn't discuss tactical judgment with him; they would only ask one question: Why did the person die?
Lao Liu slowly moved his index finger off the trigger.
The crimson characters on the retina faded and turned gold.
[Target has abandoned the current shot.]
[Target is still maintaining vigilance.]
Lin Fan didn't relax.
Giving up this shot didn't mean giving up on killing him.
"Throw the gun out."
Lin Fan shouted.
A voice finally came from the woods.
Very low, muffled by the wind.
"Let the hostage go first."
"Do you take me for a fool?"
Lin Fan retorted quickly.
Yang Ningcong hurriedly chimed in, "Lao Liu! Throw the gun away! Throw it away first! Isn't the money my dad gave you meant for protecting me? I'm telling you to throw the gun away right now!"
There was silence in the woods for a few seconds.
Lao Liu's voice came again, "Young Master Yang, if I throw the gun away, he will kill you."
"Then if you don't throw it, he'll kill me right now!"
Yang Ningcong was so anxious his voice cracked, "Can't you understand human speech? My neck is bleeding! It's bleeding!"
Lin Fan pulled the knife slightly outward.
It wasn't out of softness.
It was because he was afraid this idiot would thrash around and send himself off.
Right now, Yang Ningcong was more useful alive than dead...
