85: Chapter 85 The Cycle of Heaven! Retribution!

Lin Fan just smiled at him, seeing no need to care about the words of a dead person.

Anaphylactic shock arrived on time within ten seconds.

Two bodies collapsed one after another on the edge of the anthill.

A red wave immediately surged forward and swallowed them up.

Across the entire clearing, the fallen bodies became five slowly writhing red mounds covered by ants.

The clothing in some places had already been bitten through by the ant colony, revealing the skin underneath, which was corroded by toxins and covered in pustules.

Three minutes.

No more than three minutes in total.

The screams went from hysterical to hoarse and broken, then to intermittent whimpers, and finally settled into complete and utter silence.

Lin Fan continued to bend down and use his knife to process the hind legs of the roe deer.

He cut off the tenderloin from the entire back with steady movements.

The meat was wrapped in banana leaves and stuffed into the largest woven bag left behind by Lily and the others.

Lin Fan straightened his back and patted the mud off his hands.

He hoisted the woven bag full of venison over his shoulder and picked up another bag full of plantain fruits with his right hand.

Without looking back, he walked away in the direction he had come.

The dense forest behind him resumed its original appearance.

Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the canopy, casting warm patches of light on the fallen leaves and the anthill.

All was peaceful and quiet.

Except for that slowly writhing giant anthill covered by millions of mutant red fire ants, which now had five additional organic supply stations being decomposed.

Below the cliff, inside a rock crevice.

Chen Jian stared with vacant eyes at the thumb-sized hermit crab shell in his hand.

The inside of the shell had been sucked clean by him, but his tongue was still unconsciously licking the inner wall, trying to squeeze out the last trace of protein residue.

Wang Qiang collapsed on a reef a few meters away, his lips as white as two pieces of waxed paper, constantly licking the corners of his mouth that were dry and bleeding.

The crowd was as quiet as a beach graveyard.

No one spoke.

Speaking was just wasting saliva.

Just at this moment...

A sound came from the direction of the jungle.

Human screams.

Not just one person.

Several people.

Rising and falling one after another, everyone's movements froze simultaneously.

The unopened oyster in Wang Qiang's hand dropped onto the sandy ground with a snap, and he didn't even realize that his hand had loosened.

"Did you hear that?"

An employee stood up and pointed in the direction of the jungle.

"Inside the woods! It came from inside the woods!"

Everyone's gaze simultaneously turned toward that sky-blocking primitive jungle.

The screams lasted for about a minute or two.

There was a brief interruption for a few seconds in the middle.

Then they started again.

This time they were even more shrill and desperate, as if something was cutting up a living person's body knife by knife.

Then, it stopped abruptly.

It wasn't a gradual fading.

It was a sudden interruption.

It was as if the mouth making the sound was blocked to death by something.

Complete silence.

Even the rhythm of the waves crashing against the reefs seemed to have slowed down by half a beat out of fear.

On the beach, everyone looked at each other, not daring to let out a loud breath.

Because those screams were too miserable.

The silence lasted for nearly a minute.

Wang Qiang was the first one to "come back to life".

First, he trembled.

Then, the muscles at the corners of his mouth began to spasm uncontrollably.

That spasm wasn't a twitch.

It was after the long-accumulated fear and humiliation dissipated, the immense sense of relief directly distorted his facial nerves.

"Ha."

A short syllable popped out from his throat.

Then came the second one.

"Haha."

The third one.

"Hahahaha hahaha!"

Wang Qiang laughed up to the sky.

Laughing so hard he rocked back and forth, "Serves him right! Fuck his ancestors! The Heavenly Dao has its reincarnation! Retribution indeed!"

Wang Qiang slapped his thighs, making thumping sounds, and sand was shaken up to cover his whole face, but he didn't even care to wipe it.

"Lin Fan! Aren't you capable! Aren't you omnipotent and able to go up to heaven and down to earth! Didn't you lead people into the mountains to find game! Now you fucking got eaten by monsters, didn't you! Hahaha haha!"

He laughed until his whole body trembled, and tears were almost bursting out.

"What did I say!" He pointed at everyone present, his fingers shaking, "What the fuck did I say! This brat is simply courting death! What kind of monsters are in that forest, doesn't he have a clue? Were those Giant Lizards several meters long yesterday just put there for fun? And he even led people inside! Now it's great! Heaven has taken him!"

He laughed so hard he couldn't straighten his back, bending over with his hands supporting his knees.

The laughter echoed across the empty beach.

Fear had accumulated for too long.

Humiliation had accumulated for too long.

From being kicked away by Lin Fan to spitting out half a mouthful of bile, to having their base raided and getting their heads broken on the spot, to more than a dozen people being chased by the Komodo Dragon until they all peed their pants, and then to today cowering on the beach gnawing on hermit crab shells to barely survive.

All the bottled-up grievances and all the dignity trampled underfoot and crushed found a vent for release at this moment.

The other employees also wore smiles akin to surviving a disaster.

Someone even collapsed directly onto the beach, facing the sky, and let out a long, relieved sigh.

"Th... That means..."

An employee crawled up from the sandy ground, swallowed a mouthful of saliva, his eyeballs flashing with an irrepressible light.

"The supplies on top of the cliff..."

This sentence was like a fuse, instantly igniting the eyes of everyone present.

Right.

Lin Fan was dead.

Above the Karst Cave, there were now only three people left: Zhang Tao, Zhou Kai, and the powerless Song Ya.

Three trash without any combat power.

So much mineral water, so many self-heating hot pots, so many instant noodles and canned goods.

"Are we going or not?" Another employee licked his cracked lips, his voice hoarse but unable to hide his excitement.

"Yesterday, the Giant Lizard came out from the woods, and today there's no movement here... Maybe the monster chased Lin Fan into the woods... The place up there is empty right now..."

"Do it! What are we waiting for!"

Wang Qiang stood up, his fists clenched so hard his knuckles turned white. His fear had been completely covered by greed.

Thinking of those mountain-like supplies on top of the cliff, all the blood in his body was boiling.

"Engineer Chen! Say something!"

Everyone's gaze converged on Chen Jian.
