339: Chapter 339 is here, they're all here!
Lin Fan grabbed Xu Zhixia's wrist, increasing the force in his grip.
Xu Zhixia turned her head and looked at him, the emotions deep in her eyes very complex, something Lin Fan couldn't see through.
The sea breeze blew her long hair, brushing across the back of Lin Fan's hand.
"Answer me." Lin Fan pressed.
"There's no particular reason." Xu Zhixia's voice was calm. "Lin Fan, are you coming or not?"
Lin Fan's hand loosened a bit.
He looked at the woman in front of him, feeling a mixture of emotions inside; things had reached this point, and if there was something the matter, she should just speak out instead of acting like this.
"If you don't want to say it, forget it." Lin Fan withdrew his hand, his tone turning cold. "I have no interest in doing this kind of thing with someone who is hiding things in her heart and won't even tell the truth."
Xu Zhixia didn't answer.
She took a step forward, walking up to Lin Fan, shortening the distance between the two of them.
The sea breeze was strong, sweeping across the rock face and making a low sound. Xu Zhixia raised her hand and wrapped her arms around Lin Fan's neck.
Lin Fan frowned, raising his hand to push her away.
But Xu Zhixia increased her strength, standing on tiptoe, pressing her lips directly against Lin Fan's lips.
The touch was slightly cool, and Lin Fan's body stiffened.
He leaned his head back, attempting to avoid the kiss. "Xu Zhixia, tell me, what on earth is going on?"
"Hmm…?" Xu Zhixia looked at him. "With this Triple Enhancement of yours, aren't you planning to try full-power output?"
Lin Fan's breathing sank.
He looked at her feigning composure, but he underestimated Xu Zhixia's decisiveness in action.
Xu Zhixia's hand slid in along his collar.
Before long, Lin Fan's line of defense in reason collapsed.
Seizing the initiative, he wrapped an arm around Xu Zhixia's waist and pressed her against the flat, large rock beside them.
The night wind swept across the top of the rock, and the waves below slapped against the reef in wave after wave.
Lin Fan held nothing back, his Triple Enhancement bodily functions fully displayed at this moment.
Xu Zhixia gritted her teeth, neither crying out in pain nor softening up, her hands tightly clutching Lin Fan's shoulders.
On the rock, the sea breeze was still strong.
The clothes of the two people were already neatly put back on.
Xu Zhixia leaned against the stone wall, tidying her hair blown messy by the wind, her collar pulled up high.
Lin Fan stood at the edge, his back to her; the physical stamina consumption after his Triple Enhancement was not great. He turned his head and looked at Xu Zhixia.
"Let's go." Xu Zhixia picked up the back basket on the ground, speaking before Lin Fan could open his mouth.
Lin Fan walked over, blocking her path.
"Can you tell the truth now?"
Xu Zhixia raised her head, her gaze returning to its usual aloofness.
"Now that you've vented, don't ask unnecessary questions. Let's head back, or else one of these days I'll perform a chemical castration on you."
Finished speaking, she walked around Lin Fan and headed down the mountain along the original path.
Lin Fan watched her back, his brows tightening.
The two returned to the Karst Cave.
By the campfire, Su Qingxue sat cross-legged, holding a tree branch in her hand and poking the ground full of holes.
...
Late at night.
Lin Fan leaned against the stone wall with his eyes open, the burning campfire making slight sounds. He was thinking about Xu Zhixia; Xu Zhixia was a doctor, and her perception of the body was sharper than anyone else's.
She suddenly talked about death, that attitude as if she were arranging her final affairs.
Could it be that she noticed something was wrong with her own body and that it was untreatable?
This island was full of unknowns; Zhou Kai had turned into a werewolf, and Chen Jian had turned into a monster.
It was also possible that Xu Zhixia had come into contact with Zhou Kai's wound and handled many unknown herbs—was that thing contagious, or had she been poisoned while handling some herbs?
Lin Fan speculated all night yet still didn't get an answer.
In the Karst Cave, there was only the sound of the firewood burning; no one was asleep.
Everyone was waiting, waiting for that countdown to reach zero, waiting for the third batch of people to land.
And waiting was extremely torturous.
The sky turned pale with dawn.
Lin Fan stood up and walked to the cave entrance, and Zhou Kai followed him out.
"Brother Fan." Zhou Kai looked up at the sky. "This celestial phenomenon, it's coming again."
Lin Fan looked up.
The sky wasn't fully bright; a layer of thick gray clouds pressed down overhead, sealing off the sky.
The light couldn't filter down, and the air was stuffy.
The wind stopped.
The sea breeze that had been howling for the past few days vanished without a trace at this moment, and there wasn't a single ripple on the sea surface.
This kind of weather was the same as when Yang Ningcong and the others came to this island.
This time seemed… even more terrifying than the last…
Lin Fan looked toward the edge of the horizon; the tide line was receding.
The speed of the ebb tide was extremely fast; within a few minutes, large areas of the seabed were exposed.
Coral reefs, sediment, stranded fish…
A few minutes later, everyone was standing at the cave entrance.
Yang Ningcong looked at that patch of seawater continuously retreating, his legs turning weak as he collapsed to the ground.
"It's coming… It's coming…" His lips turned purple, and he hugged his head with both hands.
"Raise all these supplies higher up." Lin Fan ignored him and instead instructed Zhou Kai.
Last time the sky wasn't this dark, and the ebb tide didn't seem to have retreated this far; all of this indicated that this tsunami would definitely be fiercer than the last one.
The supplies were transferred to the deepest part of the Karst Cave, to the highest terrain.
After finishing all this, they could only wait.
Time lost its meaning. Su Qingxue leaned on Lin Fan's shoulder; as the child grew larger, she seemed to rely more and more on Lin Fan.
Song Ya tightly grasped Xu Zhixia's hand.
Yang Ningcong curled up into a ball, constantly muttering to himself, while Zhou Kai squatted at the very outer edge, ready to transform at any moment.
Suddenly…
A rumbling sound came from afar.
That sound seemed to vibrate upward from the depths of the seabed, conducting along the rocks to the soles of their feet, causing the ground to tremble.
This kind of vibration was even more violent than the last time.
Lin Fan looked at the intersection of sea and sky; it was as if a wall was coming straight toward them.
That wall blocked out the remaining daylight, and the world grew dark.
A giant wave of unknown height, carrying the power to destroy everything, lunged toward the island.
"Protect your heads! Get down!" Lin Fan shouted sharply.
Everyone immediately followed suit, pressing themselves flat against the ground, protecting their heads with both hands.
Boom…!
The giant wave crashed against the mountain body, causing the entire mountain to make a sound.
The huge impact caused the Karst Cave to shake violently, as if it could collapse at any moment.
Fortunately, the waves weren't that high, and no seawater entered the Karst Cave.
The sound of water, the sound of wind, and the sound of cracking rocks were mixed together.
The first wave of impact lasted for a very long time.
The seawater receded, leaving behind a ground full of mud and sand.
But this was only the beginning.
The second wave, the third wave, the fourth wave.
Every impact was more violent than the previous one.
Lin Fan opened his eyes in the darkness; the water mist outside was very heavy.
Lin Fan narrowed his eyes slightly, his Triple Enhancement vision playing a role at this moment.
His line of sight penetrated the hazy moisture, reaching straight to the beach below.
The waves were still churning, slamming onto the reef one wave after another.
There were people in the water.
Many people.
Those people bobbed up and down with the waves, one after another being washed ashore onto the beach.
Lin Fan saw clearly that some of these people were wearing black tactical outfits, with waterproof backpacks hanging on their bodies.
Some wore combat training outfits of other colors; from the uniformity of their clothing, it could be determined that they were organized and premeditated.
These people were not panicked.
They adjusted their body postures following the water current, and once their feet touched the bottom, they immediately supported each other and walked toward higher ground.
The tsunami completely stopped.
The sky was still covered with lead-gray clouds, and the light was dim.
In the Karst Cave, Yang Ningcong shivered as he crawled up from the ground, soaked all over, his teeth chattering.
He poked his head out to take a look.
The beach was densely packed with people; a rough scan showed there were at least several hundred.
Some lay on the ground not knowing if they were dead or alive, and some had already started unbuckling their backpacks to check their equipment.
"They're here… All of them are here…" Yang Ningcong's legs went soft, and he sat heavily back down into the Karst Cave. "Brother Fan, we're finished. With so many people, and guns too, a single spit from each of them could drown us to death."
Su Qingxue leaned against the stone wall, her face pale. Looking at those strangers holding hot weapons, it would be fake to say she wasn't afraid.
All the confidence she had accumulated on this island came from Lin Fan. Facing modern weapons, and so many of them at that, it seemed Lin Fan wouldn't stand a winning chance either.
Zhou Kai walked over to Lin Fan's side. "Brother Fan, the bunch of people down there have a big background."
"Looking at that posture of theirs…"
Before Zhou Kai could finish his words, a sharp scream suddenly came from the direction of the woods…
