360: Chapter 360, the 360th person is an orc.
"I told you to pour it in!" Hall drew his sidearm, pressing it directly against the lackey's head.
"Pry his mouth open for me and pour the rest in! Not a single drop left!"
Scared out of his wits, the lackey grabbed the test tube and scrambled wildly toward Shafen's corpse.
The serum flowed down the throat.
Hall put away his gun, took two steps back, and stared at Shafen's corpse.
One minute, two minutes, five minutes.
The corpse showed no movement at all; it must have been dead beyond dead.
Hall closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
"Pack up these tubes."
Hall pointed at the other tubes of serum in the box nearby.
This stuff killed people even faster than rat poison, so keeping it would definitely be useful.
Zhao Qiming stepped forward.
"Hall, what should we do with these women?"
Hall turned his head and looked at the few women shivering in the corner.
"Throw them to the brothers," Hall waved his hand.
"No need for patrols tonight, total celebration."
He wasn't a complete fool; he knew that after establishing his authority, he needed to give out some favors.
Just as he expected, the lackeys in black burst into cheers.
Suppressed for so many days, the gloom brought by Shafen's tragic death was blown away by this reward.
Several lackeys pounced on the women like wolves and tigers.
Screams and the sound of tearing echoed across the beach.
A long time passed, and the sky grew completely dark.
The bonfire on the beach burned down to just a few dark red charcoal pieces.
The sea breeze blew up the stench mixed with body odor, blood, and excrement from the camp.
Zhou Kai lay flat on the edge of the cliff, staring down and cursing.
"These beasts will be struck by lightning sooner or later," he spat on the ground.
Lin Fan ignored Zhou Kai's grumbling.
His gaze pierced through the night, crossed the chaotic figures in the center of the camp, and landed on the edge of the beach.
That was where Shafen's corpse was discarded.
The tide came in, submerging half of Shafen's body.
At first, just an index finger twitched.
Lin Fan raised an eyebrow, and then the five fingers of that corpse began to close.
The chest cavity, which had originally collapsed, was now swelling upward at a visible rate, and the muscles beneath the skin were expanding outward.
On the surface of the grayish-blue skin, a rough black stratum corneum grew.
"Kaizi, look at the edge of the beach," Lin Fan spoke up.
Zhou Kai's heterochromatic eyes lit up.
Seeing the scene in his field of view, he gasped sharply.
Shafen was growing taller and wider, just like himself.
A few minutes ago, he was a thoroughly dead corpse; now, using both hands and feet, he climbed out of the sand pit.
"He… He's alive…"
Lin Fan stared down.
The serums inside those tubes should be mutually reinforcing yet restraining; they had to be swallowed entirely so that the various medicinal forces could pull and check each other, stabilizing the efficacy so it wouldn't collapse.
On the beach.
A lackey walked out from behind a tent, pulling up his pants.
He walked unsteadily, humming a vulgar tune, and reached out to pull up his pants zipper.
A fishy, foul wind hit him in the face.
The lackey raised his head and met a pair of eyes glowing with murky yellow light.
Shafen stood in front of him, already over two meters tall.
His lower jawbone split open, revealing jagged fangs, and saliva dripped from his chin onto the lackey's instep.
The lackey opened his mouth wide, half a word stuck in his throat.
Shafen raised his thick arm and slapped down.
Bang.
The lackey flew backward five or six meters, smashing a wooden rack.
Without even letting out a scream, his sternum caved in, and he breathed his last on the spot.
The huge commotion instantly stopped the camp's celebration.
The lackeys by the bonfire stopped their actions one after another, pulling up their pants to reach for their guns.
Hall rushed out of the largest tent, bare-chested, carrying that sidearm in his hand.
Zhao Qiming followed closely behind.
"What the hell is that thing!" Hall roared, pointing at the behemoth standing in the shadows.
Shafen turned his head, his gaze locking onto Hall—he was the one who wanted his life.
He opened his mutated mouth and let out a beastly roar.
The next second, Shafen exerted force with both legs, and his massive body turned into a black shadow, heading straight for Hall.
"Open fire! Kill him!" Hall's voice cracked as he raised his gun and fired.
"Bang, bang, bang, bang…"
All the lackeys around the camp completely woke up, raising their AKs.
Tongues of fire spat out, and bullets poured onto Shafen like raindrops.
The bullet heads struck Shafen's torso, making a dull thudding sound.
His speed was too fast; most of the bullets missed, and the ones that hit him only embedded themselves in the surface layer of his darkened, hardened skin and flesh.
Dark red blood beads rolled down along the wounds; the bullets couldn't penetrate his bones, let alone injure his internal organs.
Although the physical damage wasn't fatal enough, the pain was still there.
The dense firepower suppression hindered Shafen's advancing pace.
He waved his arms to protect his face.
Bullets hit his thick arms, causing him to roar repeatedly in pain.
Having just completed his mutation, the coordination of his limbs couldn't yet fully match his soaring strength.
Facing the intertwined web of firepower, Shafen's movements showed sluggishness.
Another round of strafing followed.
Shafen's massive body swayed twice.
Giving up the idea of taking Hall directly, he turned around, fiercely kicked the ground with both feet, knocked over two lackeys who couldn't dodge in time, and rushed toward the dense forest on the side.
The snapping sound of branches breaking faded away, and the black shadow completely melted into the depths of the forest.
The gunfire stopped abruptly.
Only heavy breathing and the wails of a few wounded people remained in the camp.
The lackeys held their guns, the barrels still smoking, complex emotions written on everyone's face.
Zhao Qiming stood beside Hall with a pale face.
A dead person coming back to life and turning into an invulnerable monster had happened right before his eyes.
Hall tucked the pistol with its empty magazine back into his waist.
He didn't even look at the lackeys on the ground whose bones had been crushed.
Hall turned around, pushed Zhao Qiming aside, and strode back into the tent.
He walked to the corner and kept staring at the serum inside the metal box below…
