332: Chapter 332 Good riddance! Good riddance!

A petite figure slammed over from the side.

Without the slightest hesitation, Song Ya lunged directly between Lin Fan and the werewolf, her arms flung wide open.

Lin Fan's gaze turned sharp as his body abruptly twisted mid-air.

Putting force into his waist, the blade grazed narrowly past Song Ya's shoulder as his whole body slammed back onto the ground.

"Song Ya?" Lin Fan steadied himself, the dagger in his hand pointing down toward the ground.

Song Ya shook her head desperately, her shoulder-length hair disheveled, tears glinting in the firelight. "No, Lin Fan, don't kill him."

"Song Ya, have you lost your mind!" Yang Ningcong howled at the top of his lungs from the corner. "That's a wolf! You're blocking a blade for a beast, are you trying to get us all killed?"

Lin Fan ignored Yang Ningcong's shouting, his gaze falling onto Song Ya's face.

Before him was an unarmed, naive sweet girl, and behind him was a behemoth that could tear them to pieces at any moment.

Lin Fan took half a step forward.

"Song Ya." His tone was gentle; he knew Song Ya's innate kindness couldn't be changed. Instead of blaming her, he explained, "I don't want this either."

Song Ya bit her lower lip, her frail body trembling violently in the night wind.

"But look at him right now." Lin Fan raised a hand, pointing at the giant beast crouching low, constantly puffing out foul, hot air.

"Every time he transforms, his sanity slips away."

"If we don't deal with him, once he goes completely berserk and rushes in, he will deal with all of us."

"Be good, step aside."

Lin Fan stepped forward again, trying to reach out and pull Song Ya away.

Stubbornly, Song Ya took a small step back, her arms still flung wide, shielding the behemoth behind her for dear life.

"He can understand!" Song Ya's voice carried a sob. "He stopped just now! He didn't rush in immediately! Zhou Kai! Wake up!"

Behind her, the werewolf watched all of this with its yellowish-green eyes.

The muscles of its massive body bulged high, and its five sharp claws repeatedly scratched against the rock, scraping out a harsh noise.

Bestial nature surged within his veins; he wanted to tear them all to pieces.

But that slender figure, that posture with arms spread wide blocking in front of the blade...

That figure, he seemed to have an impression of it.

The first day he and Zhang Tao climbed up into this Karst Cave.

They were so dizzy from hunger they couldn't even stand steadily.

Back then, it was also this figure who, without letting Lin Fan know, secretly gave them a few biscuits.

The werewolf's movements froze.

That murderous desire that threatened to burst his chest slowly faded away.

Even the bestiality in his eyes seemed to dissipate quite a bit as a distorted, deformed syllable was stubbornly squeezed past a mouth full of fangs.

"Bro... Fan..."

The voice was muddled, making people momentarily think it was an illusion.

But Song Ya heard it. She looked at Lin Fan, her face filled with wild joy.

"Lin Fan! Look, he remembers! He remembers us!"

Lin Fan didn't move, his dagger still hanging by his side.

A monster that could speak was harder to deal with than a monster that only knew how to howl.

The wolf's gaze fell onto Song Ya once more.

"Song Ya..."

This time, the name was a bit more complete.

Song Ya wiped away her tears. She regarded Zhou Kai as an older brother, and she had feelings for him and the others, including Liu Feifei—she had originally wanted to stop it too, but she didn't dare speak up, which was why Liu Feifei ended up being used as bait.

Now that it was Zhou Kai, she couldn't watch him die right in front of her.

Lin Fan didn't put away his blade, instead taking a step forward in front of Song Ya, completely shielding her frail body behind him.

"Zhou Kai? Do you still recognize us?"

The werewolf didn't answer.

Watching Lin Fan's action of protecting Song Ya, its massive body actually stepped back half a step.

It paused for a moment, and the next second, it violently turned around.

Dropping onto all fours with muscles bulging, "Awooh...!"

The black figure turned into a blur on the rock platform, charging up the slope beside it at an incredible speed.

Sand and stones were scratched everywhere by the giant paws.

Without any hesitation, the moment Zhou Kai turned around, Lin Fan also rushed out after him.

He had to figure out how much of Zhou Kai's sanity had recovered, whether this kind of transformation would happen again, and whether he would be able to control himself next time.

"Lin Fan!"

Song Ya's voice came from behind as she stumbled out of the cave entrance, this time worried about Lin Fan.

Lin Fan rushed to the edge of the platform. Zhou Kai was climbing up the steep slope at an astonishing speed, and within just a few breaths, he had climbed to the rocky summit that had buried him.

Then, the black figure stood firm on the edge of the rocky summit. It turned its head, glanced toward Lin Fan's direction, then smiled and made a gesture.

That look was very complex.

Finally, he leaped forward, completely disappearing into the dark jungle above the cliff.

Lin Fan stood at the edge of the platform; apart from the sound of the wind and the distant crashing of waves, he could hear nothing else.

Song Ya ran out after them. Seeing that Lin Fan hadn't chased further up, her heart settled slightly.

"Lin Fan, where is Zhou Kai?"

"Where did he go?"

Lin Fan didn't turn back, his gaze still locked onto the spot above where Zhou Kai had vanished.

"I don't know."

"Perhaps... not wanting to hurt us, he left..."

This was an explanation, and also a guess.

Zhou Kai's final look contained far too many things.

A monster that could lose control at any moment choosing self-exile was the best outcome for the people remaining in the Karst Cave.

But for him, he had lost a brother he could trust.

Whether it was good or bad was still hard to say.

"Good thing he left! It's good that he left!"

A jubilant voice came from the cave entrance.

Yang Ningcong poked his head out from behind the stone wall. After confirming that the black monster had truly vanished, he almost jumped up in celebration.

"That beast finally cleared out! Awesome! I can finally get a good night's sleep tonight!"

His voice was exceptionally grating in the quiet night.

Song Ya's body swayed slightly.

Xu Zhixia also walked out. She first glanced at Lin Fan, then walked over to Song Ya's side and gently patted her back.

"Don't be sad." Xu Zhixia's voice was as calm as ever. "He chose to leave, which means his humanity is still in control. For himself, that's a good thing."
