218: Chapter 218 She's not his wife
"Have the search and rescue team fly the helicopters straight over. Once my Yang Family people arrive, I'm going to kill that bastard up there."
Wang Laoliu didn't immediately go to get the safe, but instead cast a meaningful glance at the slope.
The bodies of the two bodyguards lay by the gravel, blood seeping through the cracks of the rocks into the sand.
When the sea breeze blew, a fishy stench spread out, overpowering even the salty air.
Yang Ningcong reached out his hand, his impatience impossible to hide on his face. "What are you standing there stunned for?"
Wang Laoliu took a few steps, dragged the safe out from under the wreckage, and patted the sand off it.
The silver-gray casing had several dents knocked into it, and the corners were still stained with dried blood.
There was a biometric lock on the box lid, with a small screen embedded beside it.
As soon as Yang Ningcong saw this thing, he came back to life entirely.
That wasn't just a box.
That was the door home.
It was hot water, a bed, a private doctor, and his mother's face, which could make a group of people miserable with just a word.
It was also the doomsday of that intern.
He squatted down and pressed his finger onto the identification area.
The screen flashed twice.
[ Fingerprint Recognition in Progress ]
[ Recognition Failed ]
Yang Ningcong's face darkened.
"Damn it, no way..."
He changed to another finger.
[ Recognition Failed ]
Wang Laoliu frowned slightly. "You have sand on your hands. Wipe them clean."
"Do I need you to teach me?"
After cursing, Yang Ningcong still rubbed his hands back and forth on his pants a few times.
His wrists had been tied for too long, and the skin was broken in a circle; his fingertips were also stained with sweat and mud.
He pressed down a third time.
The screen lit up.
[ Identity Confirmed: Yang Ningcong ]
The sound of the mechanical lock springing open came from inside the box lid.
The sound was very soft, but falling into Yang Ningcong's ears, it was more pleasing than any music.
He violently flipped open the box lid.
The items inside were neatly arranged.
One satellite phone, two spare batteries, a folding antenna, a waterproof sealed bag, a yellow-cased PLB personal locator beacon, and a plastic-wrapped instruction manual.
Yang Ningcong directly grabbed the satellite phone and pressed the power button.
The screen lit up for three seconds.
No Service.
He pressed it a few more times, and the signal bars on the screen were completely empty.
"Damn it, piece of crap!"
Wang Laoliu reached out and took the phone over. "This place might not be able to connect directly to the satellites. Use the PLB first."
Yang Ningcong snatched that yellow beacon back.
"How do you work this?"
Wang Laoliu pointed to the red safety latch on the side. "Pull it open, and hold down the transmission button for three seconds."
Yang Ningcong's hands were shaking slightly.
If the beacon failed to transmit, he would be left here for the rest of his life.
He wasn't a fool. If this failed, Wang Laoliu would no longer listen to him, and what would he do after that?
After hesitating for a long time, he still decided to take action.
That was US military equipment after all; it couldn't possibly fail.
The red safety latch was pulled open.
He pressed and held the button.
One second, two seconds, three seconds.
The small light at the top of the beacon began to flash.
Green.
Then it turned into alternating red and green.
English prompts popped up on the screen.
[ DISTRESS SIGNAL ACTIVE ]
[ GPS SEARCHING ]
Yang Ningcong stared at that line of words, a laugh squeezing out from his throat.
At first it was short, then it grew louder and louder.
"Haha... Hahahaha!"
He held that little thing in his hands, laughing so hard his shoulders were shaking.
The few women nearby were startled by him, yet didn't dare to hide far away.
Meng Tiantian curled up in the shadow of the wreckage, looking up to see the glowing beacon, her eyes lighting up along with it.
Rescue.
These two words were more effective than any promise.
The female assistant was the first to crawl over, her voice trembling. "Young Master Yang, has the signal been sent out? Will someone come to pick us up?"
Yang Ningcong raised his head, the gloom on his face shattered into pieces by that bit of red and green light.
"Nonsense."
He stood up and lifted the beacon high into the air.
"Equipment from the Yang Family, once sent out, goes straight to the global emergency frequency. As long as the satellite scans it, the search and rescue center, my family's people, and the coast guard will all mobilize."
Saying this, he deliberately glanced toward the slope.
"That son of a bitch up there thinks that occupying a cave makes him an emperor?"
Yang Ningcong smiled through gritted teeth.
"When the helicopter arrives, I'll have people use explosives to raze his dog hole to the ground."
As soon as these words came out, the expressions of the few women finally relaxed.
In less than a day, they had been scared out of their wits.
Dead bodies, guns, knives, cut-off water, starvation.
And a man like Wang Laoliu whom people dared not approach.
Now that Yang Ningcong had once again grasped the button to "go home," the submissiveness deep in their bones returned.
Get close to the wealthy.
Get close to the person who could take them away.
One secretary wiped away her tears and leaned closer. "Young Master Yang, I knew you'd definitely have a way."
Another internet celebrity reacted even faster, holding onto Yang Ningcong's arm.
"Young Master Yang, when you were tied up earlier, we were scared to death. I just knew you wouldn't be hurt."
Meng Tiantian stepped forward, deliberately wiping her tears. "Young Master Yang, Wang Laoliu defiled me. You must seek justice for me."
Meng Tiantian's hands tightly gripped Yang Ningcong's cuffs, and almost half of her body hung on Yang Ningcong's arm.
She leaned her head into the crook of Yang Ningcong's shoulder.
She knew all too well how to use a woman's fragility to please wealthy young masters.
In high-end gatherings back on the mainland, as long as her eyes reddened and she acted soft, those young masters would endlessly shower her with designer bags and jewelry just to display their chauvinistic chivalry.
"Last night you were tied up by that lunatic, and we stayed down below. No one knew what would happen up there."
Meng Tiantian sobbed, gently wiping the corners of her eyes with the back of her hand. "I was afraid that psycho would pull a fast one on you and make you suffer. What could a weak little woman like me do?"
"So, this morning I could only go beg Wang Laoliu, begging him to save you."
She slightly lifted her face, deliberately exposing the edge of her collar, where there were a few red marks left behind in the shed.
"I begged him to go up and help. But he... he simply wouldn't listen at the time."
Meng Tiantian's crying grew a bit louder. "He said that on the Deserted Island, no one could control anyone else, and that he had taken a fancy to me long ago."
"I struggled desperately, saying that I was the woman you brought out, but he was a trained man with too much strength. I simply couldn't push him away..."
Wang Laoliu was standing just a few paces away, and he didn't bother to explain.
Yang Ningcong still needed her; besides, she was just a woman, and Yang Ningcong had plenty of them.
He was just playing with Yang Ningcong's woman, it wasn't like she was his wife.
"Young Master Yang, losing my innocence is nothing."
She released Yang Ningcong's sleeve. "As long as you can come down safely, as long as you're fine, this bit of grievance I suffered is worth it. Truly worth it."
She bit her lip, her shoulders twitching slightly.
"When the rescue arrives and we return to the mainland, I'll go far away. I have no face left to stay by your side anymore; just pretend you never knew me..."
