329: What happened to Brother Zhang Fan (No. 329)?

Everyone lay down, but the only one who actually fell asleep was Zhou Kai.

This guy was lying flat next to the campfire with his legs spread apart, sleeping like a dead pig.

Lin Fan leaned against the stone wall, opening his eyes a crack every few minutes to glance in Zhou Kai's direction.

His chest was rising and falling, his hands didn't move, his legs didn't move, and no hair grew on his face.

The other three women were in the compartment, and occasional sounds of talking came from there; the three of them weren't asleep either.

As for Yang Ningcong, his posture hadn't changed from beginning to end.

Knees hugged, huddled in the corner, his eyeballs staring as wide as copper bells, dead-set on Zhou Kai.

All night long.

When the light at the entrance of the Karst Cave began to turn white, Yang Ningcong had already fallen asleep with his head lowered.

Zhou Kai sat up, stretched lazily, and let out a "Ha..."

He rubbed his eyes, and then his belly was still itchy, even more so than last night.

Seeing Xu Zhixia, he shouted, "Dr. Xu, I'm still itchy."

Xu Zhixia walked over to him, squatted down, and lifted a section of his shirt hem.

The morning light filtered through the cave entrance, hitting that long suture line.

Xu Zhixia's fingers gently pressed along the wound edge twice, and Zhou Kai let out a hiss of "Ssss" and shrank back.

"Don't move."

"Dr. Xu, are there any herbal medicines to cure the itchiness?"

Xu Zhixia ignored his nonsense and carefully observed all around it.

The skin on both sides of the suture had completely bonded, and the new tissue was almost wrapping the thread ends inside. The color of the wound had changed from pink last night to a light brown close to normal skin tone.

"The healing speed is even faster than last night." Xu Zhixia let go of her hand, "But the stitches cannot be removed."

"Why? It's all healed up, isn't it?"

"Epidermal healing does not mean deep tissue repair is complete. The repair cycle for structures like your peritoneum, muscle layer, and fascia takes much longer than skin."

Xu Zhixia stood up, "If the stitches are removed now, just in case the deep layers haven't grown firmly yet, a single vigorous movement could tear yourself open again."

Hearing the word "tear", Zhou Kai subconsciously covered his belly.

"Alright, I'll listen to Sister-in-law."

He touched his belly again, suddenly raised his head, and looked expectant: "Dr. Xu, is there any explanation in the medical world for my healing speed like this? Does this mean I won't be able to be killed in the future?"

Xu Zhixia glanced at him.

"You're overthinking it."

"Huh?"

"Your healing speed is indeed far beyond ordinary people, but that doesn't mean you are invulnerable."

Xu Zhixia gestured with her fingers in the air, "Take another slash, and it will break or bleed just the same. It's just that you recover faster than a normal person."

"The difference is that others might die from a slash, but you have a high probability of surviving one."

"But it hurts just as much."

Zhou Kai's face slumped for a moment, then cheered up again.

"That's fine too! Not being beaten to death means winning!"

Thinking of something, he suddenly turned his head to look at Lin Fan.

"Brother Fan!"

Lin Fan raised his eyes.

"That rope last night broke the moment I reached out. Am I like you, evolved too?"

Lin Fan put away his dagger and looked at him.

"It's possible."

"So is there or isn't there?"

"Haven't tested it, how can I be sure?"

Zhou Kai slapped his thigh and stood up, his movements nimble. Who would have thought that just yesterday this person had his belly sliced open?

"A disaster escaped brings fortune thereafter! Let's go! Let's try it on the beach!"

Lin Fan didn't move. He sized Zhou Kai up and down for two seconds: his standing posture was steady, his center of gravity was correct, his legs weren't shaking, and there was no sign of spasmodic pain in his abdomen.

This resilience was truly uncanny.

"Alright." Lin Fan stood up, "I'll throw something out, and you pick it back up."

Zhou Kai was stunned for a moment: "That's it?"

"Testing speed is the most intuitive."

"Well, fine then." Zhou Kai was already stepping towards the cave entrance.

The other three women were truly curious as well, and they followed the two men outside.

Yang Ningcong huddled in the corner, watching the figures walking out one by one, and struggled for three seconds.

Although Zhou Kai was terrifying, following the main group would at least allow him to see the situation immediately and decide which direction to run.

Yang Ningcong picked up the sharpened wooden stick and trotted to follow them.

Lin Fan stood in the middle of the beach, looked around, and bent down to pick something up from the ground.

"I'll throw it out, you chase it."

"Alright!" Zhou Kai rubbed his hands together and set up his starting stance.

Lin Fan didn't use his enhanced strength, but simply used a normal person's arm strength to fling the thing in his hand forward.

The speed wasn't fast, and the arc wasn't high either; it was at the level of an ordinary person's full-strength throw.

The moment that thing left his hand, the cells inside Zhou Kai's body seemed to stir.

Without thinking, his legs bent, his whole body leaned forward, and then his hands braced against the ground.

The posture of all fours on the ground formed in an instant; his spine lowered, his center of gravity shifted forward, and his hind legs kicked off fiercely.

Swoosh.

Sand was kicked flying in all directions by him, and the speed at which he darted out was frighteningly fast.

The frequency of his limbs alternating was extremely high, and his running posture was not that of a human, but a beast-like running style.

Yang Ningcong stepped back three steps.

Zhou Kai's speed far exceeded the sprint limit of a normal human.

Before the thrown object showed any signs of landing, he had already chased underneath it.

He leaped into the air, caught it with one hand in mid-air, landed, rolled over, and stood up.

The entire set of movements was smooth and flowing, clean and neat.

Zhou Kai ran back holding that thing, unable to suppress the corners of his mouth.

"Brother Fan! That was too slow of a throw! I caught up before I even warmed up!"

Lin Fan looked at him without speaking.

Zhou Kai noticed that Lin Fan's gaze was a bit strange, and he paused: "Fan... Brother Fan... What's wrong?"
