359: Chapter 359 God's Gift

Zhao Qiming's voice rang out, and Hall's movements froze in mid-air, turning his head to look at him.

He took two steps closer. "Hall, have you ever thought about what if this really is the kind of serum that can mutate people and grant them Superpowers?"

He pointed at the trembling woman on the ground. "If you give her the serum to drink, not only are you letting her off easy, but once she gains superhuman strength, the very first person she kills will likely be you."

"Zhao, what do you mean?"

Zhao Qiming nodded. He thought Hall understood his meaning, but who would have thought that Hall handed the serum to him instead. "Since you want it so much, you drink it then!"

Zhao Qiming looked at Hall as if he were an idiot, but he didn't dare say anything.

"My point is, we should use one of our own people to test it."

"Even if they mutate, we can still control them."

Hall's face was filled with surprise. "Oh, oh, I thought you wanted it..."

Zhao Qiming rolled his eyes, turned his head, swept his gaze over the surrounding lackeys in black, and finally locked onto Shafen at the very front.

Hall followed Zhao Qiming's line of sight to look at Shafen, the corners of his mouth twitching upward slightly.

"Shafen, come here." Hall beckoned.

Shafen had just been immersed in the joy of making a contribution. Hearing his boss call him, he trotted over eagerly, rubbing his hands together, his eyes occasionally glancing at the women on the ground.

"Sir, are you going to reward us with these women..."

Hall raised the test tube in his hand in front of Shafen.

"This is God's gift." Hall stared at Shafen. "You recovered these things last night, and you made the greatest contribution. I am rewarding you with the first opportunity for longevity."

The fierce flesh on Shafen's face twitched a couple of times.

He looked at the viscous liquid of unknown composition in the test tube, and then looked at Hall.

Fear crept up from the depths of his eyes.

"Sir..." Shafen took half a step back, waving his hands repeatedly. "I don't need longevity, I just want to be a lackey. You should keep this medicine for yourself. Just reward me with a woman, any of the ones on the ground..."

The smile on Hall's face vanished bit by bit.

Shafen's calves began to cramp, and he took another two steps back, his voice tinged with a cry. "Sir, everyone is watching."

"Instead of using outsiders, you're testing this unknown stuff on your own brothers. Doing this will chill the brothers' hearts!"

The dozen or so lackeys in black around them looked at each other. No one dared to speak out, but their gazes had all changed.

Hall cast a cold glance across the entire scene.

"Chilled hearts?" Hall stepped forward and grabbed Shafen by the collar. "What if this is the Superpower serum we've been looking for? You'll be the first immortal person among us, the first person to possess Superpowers!"

"By then, they'll be too envious of you to even keep up."

"Hold him down for me!" Hall roared.

Two stocky lackeys in black nearby hesitated for a moment, but meeting Hall's murderous glare, they immediately pounced, holding Shafen up from left and right and pinning him firmly onto the beach.

Shafen struggled desperately, kicking his legs wildly on the beach and stirring up a cloud of dust.

"Let me go! I'm not drinking it! I'm not drinking this damn thing!" Shafen's voice cracked completely as he howled with his mouth wide open.

"Do it."

Following Hall's order, a lackey stepped forward. One hand pinched Shafen's chin, forcing him to keep his mouth open, while the other hand brought the test tube closer.

"Pour a little less," Hall commanded from the side. "Test the reaction first."

That lackey tilted his wrist.

The viscous liquid slid down the mouth of the tube and fell into Shafen's mouth. His aim was poorly controlled, and with the liquid flowing fast, a third of the amount was directly poured down his throat.

He pulled the test tube away, and the two lackeys released their grip.

Shafen flipped over to lie prone on the beach, desperately digging his two fingers into his throat in an attempt to vomit out what he had just consumed.

Aside from a few mouthfuls of sour water, he couldn't dig anything out.

The liquid dissolved the moment it entered his mouth, sliding straight down his esophagus and into his stomach.

Shafen stopped retching.

He slowly crawled up from the beach, supporting his knees with both hands and panting heavily.

Hall retreated three steps, his hand resting on the holster at his waist, staring dead at Shafen.

Zhao Qiming also retreated alongside, his gaze vigilant.

Shafen raised his head, the expression on his face changing from fear to confusion.

He looked down at his own hands, clenching his fists, releasing them, and clenching them again.

"Sir..." Shafen's voice trembled. "I feel... a wave of heat inside my body..."

He straightened his back, puffed out his chest, and the skin on his face began to flush red, looking as if he had drunk too much alcohol.

His muscles bulged beneath his skin.

Shafen punched a nearby reef with one blow.

"Bang!"

A fist-sized piece of debris broke off from the reef, and the surrounding lackeys in black let out a cry of exclamation.

Shafen looked at his own fist, wild joy flooding onto his face. He threw his head back and laughed heartily.

"Power! I can feel power! Hall, I've really grown stronger!"

Hall's eyes lit up. He moved his hand away from the holster and took a step forward.

Zhao Qiming furrowed his brows tightly. Did they actually manage to strike gold by sheer dumb luck?

Inside the Karst Cave.

Zhou Kai punched his own thigh. "What the actual hell! The trash thrown around randomly by those monsters is really a Superpower serum?"

Yang Ningcong was dumbfounded, his complexion turning livid. This ability was the same as Lin Fan's; one could possess Superpowers without turning into a monster.

On the beach.

Shafen's laughter continued.

He turned around and looked at the two lackeys who had pinned him down just moments ago, his gaze turning ferocious.

"Did you two have fun pressing me down just now?" Shafen strode forward, preparing to walk over.

The moment his foot lifted, Shafen's body froze.

His face suddenly twisted in agony.

"Urgh..." Shafen covered his throat with both hands, his Adam's apple moving violently up and down as if something wanted to crawl out from inside.

His legs went soft, and he collapsed to his knees on the beach.

The flush on his face quickly faded away as white foam gushed out from the corners of his mouth, completely unstoppable.

Shafen collapsed onto the ground, his body twitching wildly, his limbs rolling in the sand in an extremely distorted posture.

His eyes rolled back, revealing large whites of his eyes, and his hands gripped the clothes at his chest tightly, tearing the fabric into strips.

This sudden change happened far too quickly.

The lackeys who had just been preparing to step forward and offer congratulations were scared into backing up repeatedly, raising the AKs in their hands to aim at Shafen.

Hall stood in place, his complexion livid.

Zhao Qiming watched with cold eyes, the remaining shred of doubt in his heart completely dispelled.

No wonder Hall's group of good-for-nothing trash were able to get it so easily.

This wasn't any kind of Superpower serum at all; it was poison, or perhaps failed experimental waste.

Shafen's convulsions lasted for less than three minutes.

His body stiffened, and he let out a spine-chilling, cracked scream.

Then, his entire body slumped flat onto the beach, completely motionless.

White foam mixed with sand covered his entire face.

Hall stepped forward.

He raised his right foot and kicked hard at Shafen's ribs.

Shafen didn't make a sound. Judging by this state, he was probably thoroughly dead.

Hall pulled back his foot, his chest heaving violently.

The muscles on his face twitched. To him, dying a subordinate made no difference to dying a dog.

What angered him was that he had thought he obtained the key to the altar, only for it to turn out to be a pile of lethal trash.

"This is not a Superpower serum." Hall gritted his teeth, forcing the words out through the gaps in his teeth.

Zhao Qiming stood to the side without replying.

He had said it long ago; there's no such thing as a free lunch in this world. The commotion made by those people at the Island Center and the things they left behind were clearly meant to trap people.

The surrounding lackeys in black didn't even dare to breathe.

Looking at Shafen's miserable death and then looking at the remaining major portion of serum in Hall's hand, everyone's backs were completely soaked with sweat.

Perhaps the next one to die would be one of them.

Hall raised the test tube in his hand; the liquid inside remained viscous and translucent under the sunlight.

He stared at that tube of liquid, his gaze nearly manic.

"Pour all of it in." Hall tossed the test tube to a lackey nearby.

That lackey caught the test tube in a panic, his face turning pale.

"Sir... he's already dead..."
