12: Chapter 12 Space Filled
The rotting corpse of a zombie pressed down on his head, blocking his vision as well as any stray bullets that might fly his way.
Mo Yufei remained motionless, completely resembling a real, lifeless corpse. Mingling among the pile of bodies, he lay low and waited for the battle to pass, ignoring the deafening gunfire and endless roars outside.
The gunfire gradually faded behind him, and the street was once again swallowed by a dead silence.
Mo Yufei slowly pushed his stiff body up from beneath the pile of corpses, his joints letting out dry, cracking sounds. His head and body were covered in dark red stains, making him look no different from a newly risen zombie.
His fellow zombies wandering nearby merely glanced at him indifferently before continuing to drift aimlessly.
He did not linger. Hunched over, he slowly and sluggishly bypassed the smoking streets and the intersections littered with shell casings, continuing forward along a secluded alley.
No pain, no fatigue, only an incredibly clear consciousness staring intently at the route in his mind.
Every step was heavy and slow, yet his direction was clear. After walking for an unknown amount of time, a faded signboard on the street ahead caught his eye.
Agricultural and Forestry Seed Store
Finally there. A faint glint stirred in Mo Yufei's murky eyes, and he quickened his pace slightly.
The storefront wasn't large. The rolling shutter door was half-pulled down, and the interior was pitch black, with no signs of movement.
He lowered his head and ducked inside. The shop was filled with the mixed scent of dry grain and soil. Bags and boxes of seeds were neatly arranged on the shelves, and the clerk was long gone.
Vegetable seeds, grain seeds, fruit seeds... they had everything.
He stood in the dim shop, staring motionlessly for a few seconds.
In the next moment, with a slight thought, the invisible power of his space spread out.
On the counters, shelves, and in the warehouse, all the intact packaged seeds, along with the nearby fertilizers, seedling trays, and simple farming tools, were all swept into his space.
A moment later, the shop was completely empty.
Mo Yufei slowly turned around and walked stiffly toward the entrance.
Having achieved his goal, Mo Yufei dragged his stiff body into a secluded, deserted narrow alley and stopped, leaning against a dusty wall.
The surroundings were so quiet that only the sporadic low growls of distant zombies could be heard. He slowly closed his eyes, his consciousness completely sinking into his space.
All the scavenged supplies were piled up somewhat messily, but they did not interfere with one another. He silently took inventory in his mind, every single item crystal clear.
With the hybrid SUV, the sedan with its keys, the pickup truck, and several full cans of gasoline and diesel in his space, his transportation and fuel needs were pretty much covered.
Tools from the hardware store, tents and sleeping bags from the outdoor goods store, pots and pans from restaurants, and various machines and ingredients from the milk tea shop—all the miscellaneous items for daily survival were there.
There were also the supplies he had acquired from the Mall's warehouse at the very beginning, various household appliances, computer speakers, and entertainment equipment.
Seeing the newly filled seed section, a rare sense of security washed over Mo Yufei.
The most crucial seeds were in his hands—vegetables, grains, and fruits, everything he needed.
He wondered if these seeds could survive in the mystical realm. If they could, even if only half of them did, he would be able to eat well and never starve again through farming, even if his external supplies were completely cut off in the future.
He continued to scan the entire space. His previously tense mind gradually settled down as he began to check for any missing items one by one.
Leaning against the corner of the wall, Mo Yufei closed his eyes and carefully reviewed everything in his exclusive space.
He had food, drink, clothing, and even vehicles, and his fuel was mostly sufficient. The only thing missing was shelter.
A tent was only a temporary measure after all; it could hardly be considered a real home.
He didn't know if the weather in the mystical realm would change, but he couldn't live in a tent forever.
"I need a house where I can peacefully relax in the mystical realm. If I had to build one myself in there, who knows how long that would take."
The size of his space was limited, so it definitely couldn't hold a house. First, there wasn't enough room, and second, houses had foundations, making them impossible to collect into the space.
"An RV or a prefabricated house... An RV is the best choice. A good RV is fully equipped and mobile. The only issue is that they're hard to find."
Mo Yufei opened his eyes, a sharp glint flashing through his murky gaze.
He struggled to slip his hand into his pocket, fumbling for a good while before pulling out his phone.
The screen lit up. Using his stiff knuckles to tap the screen bit by bit, he painstakingly opened the map app and typed two words into the search bar: RV.
A long list of results popped up instantly: RV customization, RV sales, RV campgrounds... His gaze landed on the nearest RV dealership, and he tapped to find a route.
The loading icon spun round and round, with no response for a long time.
Staring at the lagging screen, Mo Yufei knew very well that The Apocalypse had only broken out a day ago, yet the once-full phone signal had already become so unstable.
Fortunately, the spinning loading icon finally disappeared, and the route map slowly unfolded.
That RV dealership was still quite a distance from his current location, and the sky outside had visibly darkened. The twilight, like a gray cloth, slowly shrouded the entire dead city.
Mo Yufei stared at the screen for a few seconds, then pressed his stiff finger to turn off the phone.
Pocketing his phone, Mo Yufei stopped thinking about the route.
Riding an electric scooter at night was too conspicuous. Turning on the light would immediately attract the attention of other survivors, while keeping it off meant he might bump into any of the debris littering the streets, making enough noise to draw all the nearby zombies.
Mo Yufei simply abandoned the electric scooter. Dragging his stiff, sluggish body, he slowly wandered in the direction of the RV dealership.
As he passed a row of low-rise shops, a dense chorus of low growls drifted over.
Mo Yufei instinctively paused and stiffly turned his head to look. It was a pet shop, and over a dozen zombies were clustered tightly around the entrance, clawing and roaring frantically at the inside.
Mo Yufei felt a slight doubt in his heart.
With so many zombies gathered together, could there be a living person hiding inside?
Zombies were extremely sensitive to the scent of living humans; if it were just an empty shop, they would never gather so densely.
He quieted his movements and slowly approached, peering inside through the dim light.
He saw deformed pet cages scattered inside the shop. A few cats and dogs were huddled in the corner, shivering. They were clean and had not mutated.
Mo Yufei suddenly understood. These zombies were attracted by the scent of the unmutated living creatures, gathering here in a frenzy to tear apart the tiny lives inside the cages.
Seeing these shivering, unmutated little animals, a thought suddenly struck Mo Yufei.
His Void Secret Realm space had always been used to store supplies and miscellaneous items. Aside from fish, he had never tried putting living creatures in it.
These little guys would be perfect to test it out.
Having made up his mind, Mo Yufei's gaze fell upon the zombies crowded at the door.
Just like how he collected supplies before, he focused his mind and activated his spatial ability, enveloping the dozen or so zombies gathered in front of the pet shop.
Half of the zombies vanished into thin air, directly collected into his space. However, the remaining few did not budge at all, only shaking their heads blankly before continuing to growl at the shop.
Mo Yufei was slightly startled and quickly checked his space, only then realizing what had happened.
Along the way, he had picked up whatever he saw, stuffing in food, drinks, seeds, fuel, appliances, and tools. At this moment, his space was already packed to the brim and completely full.
Mo Yufei quickly came up with an idea. He still remembered the small ditch he had passed earlier. He had stored a massive amount of water in his space, which took up space and was temporarily useless, so he could empty it to free up some room.
No sooner said than done. He turned around and retraced his steps, and before long, he arrived beside that dim ditch.
With a focus of his mind, the water stored in the space poured out with a crash, rushing into the ditch and kicking up a splash.
Immediately after, with another thought, the few zombies he had just collected were also dumped into the ditch, crashing heavily into the water and slowly drifting away with the current.
A large portion of his space was instantly cleared. Mo Yufei turned around and slowly walked back toward the pet shop once again.
