150: Chapter 150 Ultimate Defense System

"Attention everyone, the target has entered range!" a loud command rang out from the city wall.

The next second, a deafening roar suddenly erupted.

Cannons of all sizes on the city battlements opened fire simultaneously. Artillery shells, trailing dense rain of fire, poured down, exploding in succession along the path of the advancing beast horde.

Soil and gravel, mixed with shockwaves, churned in all directions, blasting craters of varying depths into the ground.

Dense machine gun fire wove a barrage like a torrential downpour, splashing against the thick fur of the exotic beasts with crisp, crackling sounds.

Some beasts were hit and wounded, letting out muffled groans, but they did not stop. Having experienced numerous bloody battles, they were long accustomed to such pain, relying only on instinct and military orders to press forward relentlessly.

Mo Yufei raised a hand to shield himself from the oncoming dust and smoke. The old wound on his shoulder was aggravated by the shockwaves, sending waves of pain through him.

His gaze swept over the bristling defensive fortifications on the city wall, and he issued an order in a clear, loud voice that pierced through the roar of artillery, reaching the ears of every exotic beast.

"Advance in three columns, avoiding the concentration of frontal artillery fire. Armored beasts lead the way, with the rest following closely behind."

"Remember the rules: once inside the city, only destroy defenses, do not harm civilians. If you encounter resisting defenders, kill them directly, but remember: no snacking! Anyone who lays down their arms and surrenders is to be spared."

As the order spread, the sprawling beast horde immediately changed formation, splitting into three torrents. Utilizing the gaps between artillery explosions and the cover of the terrain, they flanked left and right while pushing through the center, no longer taking the full brunt of the blanket artillery fire.

Seeing this, the defenders on the city wall grew increasingly anxious. The artillery barrage could not fully block the enemy's path, and while bullets could inflict damage, they simply could not stop these fearless giant beasts.

"Adjust firepower! Focus interception on the left and right flanks!" the city defense Commander roared, issuing the order.

The artillery positions quickly shifted their aim, pouring firepower toward the paths the beast horde was flanking. However, the exotic beasts were extremely fast, using the smoke generated by the explosions to continuously advance, and in a short moment, they had already charged to the base of the city wall.

The heavy armored beasts in the front row exerted their strength in unison, their thick limbs pounding the ground as they slammed into the massive city wall.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

The continuous, thunderous sounds caused the entire city wall to tremble slightly, and bricks and stones from the wall fell in a shower.

The soldiers on the wall were shaken, unable to stand steadily, their firearms nearly slipping from their hands. Several massive flying beasts soared into the air, charging straight toward the battlements in the face of incoming bullets.

Close-quarters combat erupted instantly all over the city wall.

The flying beasts landed on the battlements, their giant claws swiping out, easily smashing the defensive fortifications.

The defenders raised their guns to fire at close range, bullets piercing the bodies of the beasts, only to be met with even more violent counterattacks.

However, the beasts strictly adhered to the orders; whenever a soldier dropped their weapon and crouched down covering their head, they would immediately cease their attack, merely driving the person aside without striking again.

Inside the city command center, Commander Shi Haidong stared at the flickering surveillance footage, his face so grim it looked like it could drip water.

The city wall defense line was in critical condition in multiple places, with multiple breaches torn into the outer defenses. The enemy was not only powerful in combat but also highly disciplined—not killing indiscriminately or acting recklessly—which, conversely, caused the morale of his own troops to crumble even further.

"Deploy urban combat units to intercept! Activate the city's mobile firepower! Defend the streets to the death; do not let them breach the heart of the city!" Commander Shi Haidong ordered through gritted teeth.

Rapid footsteps and the roar of vehicles soon echoed through the city streets.

Heavily armed urban combat squads set up defensive positions along the streets. Roadblocks and barricades were quickly erected, and firearms were mounted at corners, on rooftops, and in windows, preparing to engage in protracted fighting relying on the complex street layout.

Outside the city, Mo Yufei leaped into the air, stepping on the backs of the beasts to fly up onto the city wall.

Standing atop the city wall, he looked out; the entire Tianzhong City was a crisscross of streets and alleys, with countless defensive nodes layered one upon another.

Benboba flapped his wings and landed beside him. Looking at the dense defensive lines within the city, he said, "Boss, there are many alleys inside, and the enemy is hiding in the shadows taking potshots. I'm afraid it won't be easy to get through."

Mo Yufei glanced indifferently at the streets below, his tone calm: "It's fine. Advance step by step."

He raised his hand and waved it forward.

"All forces, enter the city. Advance steadily, secure every step."

The broken city gate was smashed open by the brute force of the giant beasts, and the dark, overwhelming beast horde poured into the city through the breach.

Gunfire, roars, and the sounds of collision intertwined throughout the streets and alleys.

The effectiveness of firearms was greatly diminished in the narrow spaces, and the beasts, relying on their powerful Physical Body, wove between buildings, continuously rooting out one firepower node after another.

More and more soldiers surrendered, and the originally tight street defense lines collapsed one segment after another.

Firelight flickered between the buildings, and smoke filled the sky above the city. The clash between flesh and blood and firearms had completely shifted from the open wilderness to the bustling streets.

Mo Yufei walked slowly down the center of the street, with beasts bowing and making way on either side, and soldiers who had abandoned their weapons standing along the roadside everywhere.

His gaze turned toward the command building in the very center of the city; that was the final core stronghold of all of Tianzhong City.

This duel had not yet reached its end.

The urban warfare inside Tianzhong City was still a fierce tug-of-war.

The beast horde pushed forward step by step, tearing through one street defense line after another.

More and more defenders gave up resistance and knelt to surrender. The city's outer defenses had completely collapsed, and the battle lines retreated all the way, finally hunkering down in the most core area of the city.

That was the private palace that Commander Shi Haidong had spent years of painstaking effort and the resources of the entire city to build, and it was also his final fortress for a last stand.

The entire street was billowing with smoke, and choking gray fog shrouded the entire urban area.

The beast horde trampled over the roadblocks and broken bricks and tiles strewn across the ground, their pace steady as they advanced forward.

Mo Yufei walked alone and slowly down the center of the empty, deathly silent main thoroughfare; the sporadic potshots that occasionally rang out from the surroundings could no longer stop his advance by even a single step.

The resistance of the remaining defenders in the city was already at the end of its rope, collapsing at every turn.

The true brutality had long been playing out wildly deep within the alleys.

The roars of slaughter, the dense gunfire, and the crisp sounds of walls shattering intertwined, echoing through every alley, as the flames of war completely tore apart the city's final tranquility.

Countless ordinary civilians huddled behind their tightly closed doors.

Adults tightly covered their mouths and noses, their bodies shaking uncontrollably, not daring to make a sound, not daring to peek at even a fraction of the chaos outside the window.

The shrill, faint cries of children drifted intermittently through the cracks in the homes, only to be tightly muffled by the panicked hands of adults, leaving only the sound of suppressed choking and stifled sobs.

In the inner districts of Tianzhong City, on one side was the deathly, oppressive silence of the beasts steadily advancing.

On the other was a living hell of raging war and terrified souls.

The cold slaughter and helpless wailing intertwined and wound around each other, covering every inch of the land.

Everyone thought that the defeat was sealed, including the retreating remnants of the defenders, whose morale had collapsed.

Only inside the headquarters at the highest point in the city center was the atmosphere eerily calm.

On the giant holographic screen, drones and high-altitude satellites transmitted real-time images, clearly displaying the remnants of the beast horde advancing into the city, as well as Mo Yufei walking at the very front.

Commander Shi Haidong sat quietly in the main command chair, his face no longer showing the previous rage and loss of composure.

In its place was a cold and sinister smile.

He watched the beast horde on the screen that had been crushing everything in its path, unstoppable, and watched the man who had overturned the rules of modern warfare with just his Physical Body, slowly relaxing his tense shoulders and back.

The staff officers beside him were bewildered, not understanding why the Commander had calmed down when the situation was already lost.

Just when the beast horde was less than a thousand meters from the core palace area.

Commander Shi Haidong finally spoke slowly, his voice low and sinister, carrying the arrogance of someone in control of everything.

"Crushing everything in your path, feeling proud, are you?"

"Relying on your Physical Body to withstand artillery fire, relying on a beast horde to crush my regular army."

"Mo Yufei, do you really think this is all I, Commander Shi Haidong, have up my sleeve?"

His fingertips lightly tapped the ultimate security key on the command console.

Hum—

A low mechanical warning hum suddenly sounded throughout the core area of Tianzhong City.

The hidden power lines underground instantly supplied power at full capacity, countless concealed energy interfaces were activated in an instant, and the Ultimate Defense System fully awakened.

The next second, twelve hidden strongholds around the palace simultaneously blew off their camouflage.

Massive defensive towers, forged entirely from alloy and standing thirty meters tall, rose with a boom from the landscaped bunkers and underground bases.

The towers were covered in precise radar detectors and infrared locking devices. At the top of each tower was mounted an exaggeratedly large super close-in weapon System.

This was not a conventional military product of this mortal plane.

It was the ultimate trump card that Commander Shi Haidong had exchanged across the System by relying on special permissions, a killing machine born specifically for slaughtering large-scale clustered targets.

Twelve defensive towers were arranged evenly around the palace.

The barrels rotated slowly, the dark, cold muzzles locking onto the entire urban area from all directions, and dense red locking dots instantly covered the bodies of all the advancing beasts.

Full-area locking, covering every angle without blind spots.

Inside the command hall, the pupils of all the officers instantly constricted, and their breathing stopped abruptly.

They had been stationed in Tianzhong for years, yet they had never known that the Commander had secretly hidden such terrifying ultimate military equipment.
