70: Chapter 70 Attack
Lin Ran stood up immediately and strode to the cockpit to check the instrument panel. He saw the red malfunction lights on the screen flashing wildly, and the energy readings plummeting. He immediately said in a low voice, "Emergency landing on the open space of the ruins below! Everyone hold on tight, prepare for an emergency!"
"Acknowledged!" the pilot replied, skillfully maneuvering the airship to adjust its course. The hull tilted slightly as it dived toward a flat open area below. The friction between the hull and the air created a faint whistling sound, and a wave of turbulence rippled through the cabin.
Mo Yufei subconsciously gripped the handrail beside him, his brows slightly furrowed. He assumed it was just a normal airship malfunction, inwardly wondering if the spatial fluctuations of the Fragment World had interfered with the equipment. He didn't think in any other direction at all, and his face was filled with normal surprise and a hint of helplessness.
"Boom——"
The airship slammed heavily into the ground, kicking up a sky full of dust. After shaking violently a few times, the hull finally stabilized. The malfunction alarms in the cabin continued to blare, and the red warning lights bathed the cabin in a crimson glow.
Lin Ran had just opened his mouth to shout, "Check for injuries, troubleshoot the malfunction!" before his words could even fade, an unexpected change occurred!
The cockpit isolation door was suddenly kicked open with immense force. The pilot, who had just been looking flustered, instantly ripped off his Federal Agent driver's uniform.
Underneath, he revealed the ink-black attire of the Blood Killing Hall. A bone-chilling, piercing killing intent suddenly erupted from his entire body, and his eyes were sinister and ruthless—where was there any trace of his earlier awkwardness!
"Blood Killing Hall is conducting business. Those who block the way die!"
With a cold shout that exploded in the air, the pilot condensed thick black shadow energy in his palm and ruthlessly blasted it toward the nearest Federal Agent beside him.
The Federal Agent was completely caught off guard. He was struck hard in the chest, let out a scream, flew backward, and slammed into the hull, losing all signs of life.
This sudden turn of events plunged the entire cabin into instant silence, followed by an eruption of chaos.
Mo Yufei was completely frozen in place, his face full of confusion, his pupils slightly dilated; he was completely stunned.
He stared blankly at the suddenly rampaging pilot, at the unfamiliar black attire, and at the Federal Agent who had instantly fallen to the ground. His mind was a complete blank, and he hadn't reacted at all to what was happening.
One second it was a normal airship malfunction and emergency landing; the next, it turned into a deadly ambush. This sudden reversal left him with no time to think. His face was written with astonishment and confusion, his eyes full of bewilderment, as if he hadn't yet recovered from this sudden attack.
"There's an ambush! It's the Blood Killing Hall! Everyone, counterattack!" Lin Ran's roar, filled with shock and anger, finally pulled Mo Yufei slightly out of his daze.
He subconsciously turned his head to look outside the cabin. He saw dozens of black-robed figures emerging like ghosts from behind the broken walls and between the stone pillars surrounding the airship.
They held shadow blades and poison-imbued energy weapons, swarming toward the airship in an overwhelming tide. The sounds of breaking air, clashing weapons, and the screams of Federal Agents instantly intertwined, echoing throughout the entire world.
The Federal Agents fought back in haste. The beams from their pulse energy guns collided violently with the shadow energy in the air. However, the Blood Killing Hall assassins had long been lying in wait and were attacking ferociously. Caught in a pincer attack from inside and out, the Federal Agents fell one after another, and blood instantly stained the cabin floor red.
Before the dust could settle, the cabin isolation door was suddenly kicked open violently. A group of people wearing Blood Killing Hall attire charged toward Mo Yufei's location.
Their eyes were filled with ruthless killing intent, and they condensed thick black shadow energy in their palms, striking out first against the nearest Federal Agent beside Mo Yufei!
"Kill!"
The Federal Agent was struck hard in the chest by the shadow energy. The crisp sound of shattering sternum bones was clearly audible, and he flew out like a kite with a broken string, dying on the spot.
"You're an undercover agent!" Lin Ran looked at the airship pilot in shock and anger, drew his pulse energy gun with a backhand motion, and roared an order, "Everyone, counterattack! Guard the perimeter!"
But it was too late.
The moment the pilot made his move, dozens of black figures, who had been lying in ambush for a long time behind the broken walls and in the shadows of the stone pillars around the ruins, instantly burst out.
A large group of black-robed figures, holding shadow blades, closed in like ghosts, instantly surrounding the crescent airship in an airtight circle.
"Attack!"
With an order from the outer assassin leader, countless ability arrows shimmering with deep green deadly poison shot toward the airship like a torrential rain. The specialized armor-piercing arrowheads easily pierced through the airship's glass, sending shards flying, and the rain of arrows bore down on the Federal Agents in the cabin.
The Federal Agents raised their guns in haste to counterattack. Blue pulse beams and black shadow energy collided violently in the air, explosions rang out one after another, and smoke instantly filled the air.
A Federal Agent had just aimed at a target when his body was simultaneously pierced by three poison ability arrows, and he fell into a pool of blood.
Another Federal Agent tried to support Lin Ran but had his throat slit by an assassin who leaped inside, blood splattering all over the cabin.
The pilot went on a killing spree inside the cabin. His shadow blade flew like lightning, each swing carrying lethal intent. The Federal Agents were already fighting in haste and were now caught in a pincer attack from inside and out. In just a few seconds, more than half were dead or injured. The screams, gunshots, and the sound of clashing weapons intertwined, and the cabin instantly turned into a slaughterhouse.
The assassins had an extremely clear goal. Completely disregarding the Federal Agents' counterattacks, they fearlessly closed in on Mo Yufei.
The moment the incident occurred, Mo Yufei had already scrambled away, dodging the flying rain of arrows and the assassins' surprise attacks.
"Mo Yufei, surrender now!" The pilot finished off the last obstructing Federal Agent and leaped toward Mo Yufei.
Shadow energy condensed into a giant claw, grabbing fiercely toward his shoulder. The outer assassins also closed in simultaneously, sealing off all his escape routes.
Lin Ran, covered in injuries, roared and charged toward the pilot, but was struck in the chest by a shadow whip from the assassin leader from a distance, falling heavily to the ground, unable to get up again.
But this blow also opened a gap in the encirclement for Mo Yufei, and he took the opportunity to run out of the airship.
However, as soon as he got out, he discovered that the people from the Blood Killing Hall had already surrounded the area around the airship, and he was still inside the encirclement.
The Blood Killing Hall captain, cloaked in a dark black robe with mysterious patterns, radiated a daunting pressure. He looked at Mo Yufei with a smile on his lips, his eyes filled with greed and ruthlessness.
"Where is the Fragment World core? Confess honestly to save yourself from physical suffering. If you tell me readily, maybe I'll be in a good mood and spare your life."
Mo Yufei's gaze subconsciously swept to the side. The corpses of the Federal Agents lay scattered about by the airship, the bodies still warm.
Watching this scene, the corner of Mo Yufei's mouth twitched uncontrollably. He sneered inwardly, but on the surface, he dared not show it at all, still maintaining his cowardly, shaken appearance.
Spare my life? What a huge joke.
These people slaughtered everyone the moment they struck; how could they possibly really leave him alive?
Once they got the Fragment World core they wanted, and he no longer had any value, he would definitely be silenced immediately.
Moreover, he had never known anything about a Fragment World core from the beginning to the end. Not to mention that he didn't want to say, even if he wanted to, there was simply nothing to say.
Mo Yufei pretended to be bewildered and terrified: "I... I really don't know what core you're talking about. I'm just an ordinary Fragment World native, following the Federal Agents to look for my kin. You've got the wrong person..."
