29: Chapter 29 Reclaiming Land

Mo Yufei looked at the brand-new Secret Realm panel before him, his heart filled with joy.

The Secret Realm had finished its upgrade, and a complete ecological system had been fully activated. Soil fertility and air humidity were all optimized, and both the various seeds buried and the small animals being raised saw their survival and reproductive capabilities significantly improved.

From now on, he would no longer need to worry about crops withering or animals dying prematurely; this Secret Realm finally possessed true vitality.

What made Mo Yufei's pupils constrict and his heart surge with wild joy, however, was that his Portable Space had also changed. It was unclear whether it was a synchronized upgrade or some other kind of mutation, but it had quietly connected with this Secret Realm!

Mo Yufei subconsciously focused his mind to investigate and instantly grasped the mystery behind it.

His Portable Space still maintained the characteristic of suspended time, where stored supplies would never spoil or degrade, but within the Secret Realm, time flowed normally; plants would grow, and living creatures would move.

"To think it actually has such a wonderful use?"

Mo Yufei marveled inwardly. As long as he was in the outside world, he could use the Portable Space to store and retrieve items in the Secret Realm at will. He could transport supplies through the air without having to step into the Secret Realm himself; it was truly too convenient!

But upon trying it, he discovered a limitation: if his actual self stepped into the Secret Realm, this connection would temporarily fail. He would be unable to control any objects within the Secret Realm through the space, nor could he directly move items within the Secret Realm.

"What a pity. If I could also manipulate things at will while inside the Secret Realm, then this Secret Realm would truly become my private backyard."

A trace of barely perceptible regret flickered in Mo Yufei's heart, but it was instantly replaced by overwhelming joy. "But this is enough. Being able to freely store and retrieve items from the outside world already saves countless troubles. I can use the space to keep goods fresh and use the Secret Realm for farming and breeding. The two complement each other; it's simply heaven helping me!"

Emerging from the bathroom, he watched the little ones quietly curled up and resting. The surroundings were peaceful and gentle, without a hint of danger.

Mo Yufei's mind gradually settled, and he turned to walk into the bedroom.

The moment his gaze fell upon the soft, tidy bed, a wave of bittersweet warmth washed over him.

Over this past month, throughout The Apocalypse, he had been drifting from place to place, sleeping in the wild or in cold corners. Having long grown accustomed to sleeping rough and eating in the wind, he had almost forgotten what it felt like to lie on a soft bed and sleep soundly.

He lay down gently; the quilt was soft and warm, with a clean and comfortable touch.

The room was incomparably quiet. There was no roaring, no wind, and no impending crisis. His nerves, which had been tight for so long, gradually relaxed.

His body relaxed completely, and exhaustion slowly engulfed him like a tide.

His eyelids grew heavy. The surroundings were tranquil and reassuring; there was no need to be vigilant or guard against danger. His body and mind finally returned to peace. Unknowingly, Mo Yufei slowly drifted into a deep sleep, sleeping exceptionally soundly and securely.

He did not know how long he had slept when a crisp and mischievous Parrot cry suddenly rang out, chattering incessantly, forcibly waking Mo Yufei from his peaceful slumber.

He only heard the Parrot Benboba shouting from above: "Lazybones, get up! Lazybones, get up!"

The voice was crisp and noisy, echoing in his ears again and again.

Mo Yufei lazily rubbed his eyes and sat up, the hazy drowsiness slowly dissipating.

He pulled open the RV curtains; the day was already bright, with brilliant sunlight filling the bedroom, making everything around him bright.

Mo Yufei was still a bit dazed. He had actually slept soundly through the entire night without any vigilance or danger, sleeping until the sun was high in the sky.

Beside him, Benboba was still calling out and urging him, looking very playful.

He went to the bathroom, where the mirror was covered in a faint layer of moisture. He turned on the hot and cold water faucet, and warm water flowed out slowly. He cupped the water in his hands to wash his face, washing away the sleepiness of the night.

Afterward, he brushed his teeth, casually combed his hair, and entered the RV's living and kitchen area. He opened the storage cabinet and took out rice flour, eggs, and pickled vegetables.

He turned on the small onboard gas stove, placed a small frying pan on it, and cracked two eggs to fry slowly. The golden egg liquid gradually solidified, and the aroma slowly spread.

On the other side, he boiled water in a kettle to make multigrain porridge, paired with steamed buns and refreshing side dishes prepared in advance. A simple and filling breakfast was soon ready.

The small dining table was cleaned up, and the little ones gathered around obediently.

Mo Yufei held a steamed bun, ate it with the warm multigrain porridge, and chewed in small bites.

The fried egg was fragrant, soft, and flavorful, and the side dishes were refreshing and cut through the greasiness. There were no extra sounds, only the soft sound of chewing.

The carriage was filled with warmth. A simple and peaceful breakfast smoothed away the morning laziness, filled his stomach, and gave him enough strength.

After finishing, he simply tidied up the dishes and the carriage, then took the little ones and stepped out of the vehicle, walking toward the small river not far from his home, preparing to cultivate the wasteland.

The terrain by the lake was flat and open, and the soil was soft, making it very suitable for cultivation.

He operated the excavator, slowly adjusting its position to aim at the selected plot of land.

The mechanical arm slowly descended, the bucket cut into the soil layer, steadily scooped up large chunks of earth, and bit by bit, he pushed it flat and tidied the edges.

He patiently trimmed the surrounding edges, comparing left and right, repeatedly making corrections, until he had managed to dig out a square, orderly plot of land with straight sides and distinct corners.

Roughly estimating, the entire square open space was about half a mu in size. The soil was fertile, and it was adjacent to the lake, making it very convenient to divert water for irrigation—just right for developing into good farmland.

The warm sun spread over the empty field, and the wind, carrying the earthy scent of soil, swept by gently. Mo Yufei sat steadily in the excavator's cockpit, his fingertips skillfully manipulating the control levers, the metallic mechanical arm gleaming with a cold, hard luster in the sunlight.

Accompanied by the low and powerful roar of the engine, the excavator's wide bucket slowly descended. The sharp teeth dug fiercely into the soft soil, and then, with a sudden upward lift, a full bucket of moist yellow earth was easily scooped up, with dust sliding down through the gaps in the teeth.

Mo Yufei's gaze was focused, staring intently at the plot of land ahead. First, he followed the edge of the half-mu vegetable field, meticulously leveling the ground, smoothing out raised mounds of soil, picking out scattered stones, and uprooting weeds to organize neat ridges for planting vegetables.

Once the vegetable field was arranged, the mechanical arm turned to the rear and slowly advanced according to the predetermined dimensions.

The bucket swept steadily across the ground, precisely cultivating a boundary three meters wide. The long tracks rolled over the soil, leaving two deep indentations, and the two-hundred-meter distance extended forward bit by bit.

The newly turned soil, carrying moist dampness, piled up into neat ridges on the ground; this was the field plot about to be planted with rice.

After a brief pause, Mo Yufei maneuvered the excavator to the right, leaving a five-meter-wide interval, and then started again, repeating the actions of scooping, turning, and leveling the soil.

The mechanical arm's movements were crisp and efficient, without any hesitation, and a wheat field of the same three-meter width and two-hundred-meter length gradually took shape.

The plowed land was soft and fertile, and the newly turned yellow soil formed a sharp contrast with the surrounding wasteland. The originally chaotic wild field, under the precise operation of the excavator, became square, orderly, and well-organized.

He leaned forward slightly, adjusting the force on the control levers to ensure every inch of land was deeply plowed. Beads of sweat seeped from his forehead, but he was not distracted in the slightest.

In his ears, there was only the continuous roar of the excavator, the muffled sound of the bucket breaking the soil, and the light sound of the wind blowing over the newly turned fields. On the empty wilderness, the figure of mechanical labor was exceptionally striking; the originally desolate land was bit by bit turning into orderly farmland.
