234: Chapter 234 The Battle with the Kingdom
The Dragon-Blood Steeds possessed amazing endurance and were extremely fast.
The massive cavalry legion maintained a strict formation, resembling a flock of giant metallic birds migrating, swiftly sweeping across the land beneath the high-altitude clouds.
Mountains, rivers, forests, and plains retreated rapidly beneath them; occasionally, scattered Minotaur villages or small towns could be seen.
But to this army with a clear goal and a determination to win, they were nothing more than insignificant specks on a map, not worth mentioning.
Time passed during the monotonous flight, and it became six in the evening as the sun began to sink in the west.
A Space Hunter, whom Lin Tian had specifically brought along and who had accompanied Lin Kong on a close-range reconnaissance of the Royal Court yesterday, rode forward.
Pointing toward a hilly area below where more signs of life were gradually appearing and the terrain was becoming steep, he respectfully reported:
"My Lord, approximately seven hundred kilometers from here is where the Minotaur Royal City is located."
"Seven hundred kilometers..."
Lin Tian looked at the sky, felt the still-abundant stamina of the Dragon Horse beneath him, and noted the high morale of his soldiers despite their fatigue; he made a decision.
"Pass the order: the whole army is to descend and rest for one hour in that leeward valley among the hills ahead!"
Lin Tian commanded, "Men shall not remove their armor, and horses shall not be unsaddled. Hurry and recover your strength. In one hour... we strike the Royal City directly and catch them off guard!"
"Yes!"
An hour passed in the blink of an eye.
"Mount up! Take flight!"
There was no redundant mobilization; the orders were concise and powerful.
Five million cavalrymen rose into the air once more like a giant beast awakening.
Under the increasingly dim light of the sky, they turned into a suffocating shadow, launching their final sprint toward their ultimate goal!
This time, Lin Tian held nothing back and ordered the entire army to increase their speed to the absolute limit!
The flames from the Dragon-Blood Steeds' four hooves pulled countless brilliant and deadly trails of light across the night sky, and the sound of breaking through the air echoed like the sigh of the Grim Reaper.
Along the way, they inevitably began to pass over some larger Minotaur towns.
When that sky-covering flight of cavalry, carrying a majestic military Aura that made Souls tremble, swept low over the towns like a cloud of death...
The area below instantly fell into a state of panic and chaos, as if doomsday had arrived!
"Gods! What is that?"
"Enemy attack! It's an enemy flying army!"
"Quick! Sound the alarm bells! Go to the Royal City and report this!!"
Exclamations, cries, and the chaotic ringing of bells blended together.
Some Minotaurs were so terrified by that horrifying Aura that they collapsed to the ground, their bowels and bladders failing them.
There were also quick-reacting officers who roared as they tried to organize weak anti-air defenses or send the fastest messengers to the Royal City.
However, their reactions seemed so sluggish and futile in the face of Lin Tian's full-speed advancing aerial army.
No matter how fast a messenger's horse could gallop, how could it be faster than the wings of a Dragon-Blood Steed?
Those hurried defenses couldn't even touch the edges of the cavalry formation before falling powerlessly.
Lin Tian didn't even bother to glance down at the chaos below.
His gaze, like a sharp arrow piercing the night, had long since locked onto the silhouette of a black city on the distant horizon, which looked like the fangs of a giant beast.
The Minotaur Royal City had been reached.
When the five million flying cavalry led by Lin Tian appeared outside the Royal City like a blood-colored torrent torn from the night, they began to lower their altitude and deploy into an attack formation.
Even though the Minotaur defenders on the city walls were psychologically prepared, they were still shaken to the core by this sight that blotted out the sun and carried an extremely terrifying Aura.
"T-they really came... so fast!"
A soldier's voice trembled.
"Prepare to meet the enemy! Archers! Ballistae! Aim at those bastards flying in the sky!"
Officers roared at the top of their lungs, trying to suppress the soldiers' fear.
On the city walls, thousands of giant armor-piercing ballistae that required several people to operate were slowly adjusting their angles, their bolts glinting with a cold light under the torches.
More Minotaur soldiers crowded behind the battlements, gripping their battle-axes and spears tightly, though many were pale-faced.
Lin Tian sat atop Crimson Flame, hovering behind the army formation. His cold gaze swept over the defenders on the wall who were ready for battle yet unable to hide their panic and despair, and a cold arc curled at the corner of his mouth.
"Guessed I would come? So what?"
He whispered to himself, as if mocking the opponent's futility.
"In the face of absolute power, all defense is merely offering one's head for the taking!"
He wasted no more words, and with his right hand held high, he swung it down fiercely!
"Azure Moon Legion, Crimson Flame Legion, suppressive fire, three rounds! Pull out those nails on the wall for me first!"
"As you command!"
The moment the order was given, the sky seemed to be split by two colors!
On the left, countless silver arrows wrapped in cold moonlight poured down toward the ballista positions on the wall like a reverse meteor shower, emitting sharp whistles as they broke through the air!
Even before the arrows arrived, the Soul-chilling cold made many Minotaur soldiers' movements stiffen.
On the right was a destructive firestorm!
The Crimson Flame Mages chanted in unison, and blazing fireballs, roaring fire dragons, and bursting lava shells smashed into the city walls like a volcanic eruption!
The high temperature distorted the air and turned half the sky red; the scorching heat waves could be felt even from a great distance!
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
"Clang! Clang!"
The sounds of explosions, the loud impact of arrows hitting shields, the death wails of Minotaurs, and the dull thuds of city wall stones shattering...
In an instant, the Minotaur Royal City was turned into a purgatory where flames and death were intertwined!
Although the defenders resisted desperately, using giant shields, their bodies, and even protective spells to block the assault...
Under such saturated long-range fire, the city's defenses still showed visible loosening and chaos. The giant ballistae were prioritized in the first round of strikes and turned into burning fragments.
Almost at the same moment the attack outside the city began, the Minotaur King Leo received the urgent report.
His face was ashen, but his eyes flashed with a trace of morbid, desperate hope.
He turned toward the Bearman standing beside him like an iron tower, over four meters tall, covered in thick black fur, and radiating a suffocatingly fierce Aura.
"Lord Mo Shi!"
Leo's voice was filled with entreaty and urgency.
"The enemy has arrived, and their offensive is fierce! That human general who can use Legion Skills and has reached Saint-Grade combat power must be in the army!"
"I implore you to take action and kill him! As long as this person is removed, the enemy's offensive will surely collapse! My Minotaur Kingdom will be forever grateful, and there will certainly be generous gifts presented afterward!"
