58: Chapter 58 Caring for Lin Yin
At the same time, the other three people at the table were also drawn by this small movement. Lin Feng's report stopped, Lin Yan's chewing paused, and Commander Lin Yu widened her eyes, watching the scene with curiosity.
Three gazes (Lin Tian's confusion, Lin Feng's realization, Lin Yan's indifference, and Commander Lin Yu's curiosity) all landed squarely on Lin Yin.
"!" Lin Yin's cheeks flushed with a visible rosy hue like the sunset, spreading all the way to the tips of her ears.
Her fingers tightened slightly around her chopsticks; the Holy Envoy of the Profound Moon, usually so cool and composed, was actually at a loss for words.
Facing Lin Tian's questioning gaze, her eyes wandered, and she stammered in a voice as soft as a mosquito, "I... I saw that you were always talking, Lord, and... and didn't eat much... so I thought..." Her voice grew smaller and smaller until it was almost inaudible, and her head lowered slightly, as if she wanted to find a hole to crawl into.
Seeing this, a knowing smile flashed in Lin Feng's eyes, but his face remained steady. He thought to himself, 'It seems Lin Yin's feelings for the Lord... well, this is a good thing. The Lord should have someone to care for him. Perhaps... I can find an opportunity to "accidentally" help her out?'
Lin Yan's thoughts were much more direct: 'The Lord works hard, so serving him food is only right.' He didn't think anything was wrong at all; instead, he felt Lin Yin was doing the right thing and even considered whether he should also serve the Lord a piece.
Commander Lin Yu's eyes were sparkling. She looked at Sister Lin Yin, whose face was as red as an apple, and then at the somewhat dazed Lord, her heart full of blessings and a hint of excitement: 'Sister Lin Yin is so nice! Only someone as powerful and beautiful as Sister Lin Yin is worthy of standing by the Lord's side! Keep it up, Sister Lin Yin!'
Feeling the four gazes on the table—each with a different meaning but all focused on her—Lin Yin only felt her cheeks burning and her heart beating like a drum.
Unable to sit still any longer, she hurriedly put down her chopsticks and said quickly in a low voice, "I... I'm full! Today... I didn't encounter any special circumstances today either. I'll... I'll go prepare for tonight's operation first!"
After speaking, she stood up quickly like a startled deer and fled the dining table that had caused her "social death," the hem of her moon-white holy robe tracing a hurried arc as she turned.
Watching Lin Yin's back as she practically fled in panic, Lin Tian froze for a few seconds before rubbing his chin, a smile that was both amused and warm slowly spreading across his face. "This girl..." he muttered to himself, shaking his head, yet feeling strangely pleased. "It seems I'm quite popular as a Lord? Even during meals, someone is looking out for me."
He didn't think any deeper into it, simply attributing it to his subordinates' love and concern for their "considerate and wise" Lord. However, it certainly didn't feel bad.
This little interlude seemed to dilute some of the heavy atmosphere brought by the Minotaur tribe.
Lin Tian withdrew his gaze and looked back at the remaining three people at the table, his face returning to its usual cheerful expression. "Alright, everyone understands the situation. Regarding the Minotaurs, we'll take note of it for now and discuss it later. For now, let's eat well and fill our stomachs!"
He picked up his bowl and put the piece of meat Lin Yin had given him into his mouth, chewing it; the taste seemed exceptionally fragrant. Then he said to the three, "After eating, I'll give you half an hour to reorganize your subordinates. At eight o'clock tonight, gather at the West Gate on time, and we'll continue our 'night shift'! The target—two hundred meters outside the walls, clear out everything that can move!"
"Yes, Lord!" the three responded in unison, their voices loud and clear. A fighting spirit ignited in Lin Feng's eyes, Lin Yan nodded solemnly, and Commander Lin Yu responded obediently.
The bonfire crackled, and the aroma of food still lingered. A simple dinner was interwoven with military reports, future decisions, and a ripple of warmth that had quietly sprouted but had not yet been fully noticed by those involved.
After dinner, the camp's bonfire had not yet gone out, and the voices of people gradually subsided. The soldiers took the time to rest and repair their equipment, preparing for the upcoming night battle.
Lin Tian stood on the steps in front of the Lords Mansion, his gaze inadvertently sweeping across the edge of the territory—there, a slender figure outlined by the moonlight stood quietly, looking out at the surging darkness outside the protective shield. It was Lin Yin.
Thinking of how she had cautiously served him food and then fled in panic at the dinner table, the corners of Lin Tian's mouth curled up unconsciously, and a soft, amused ripple rose in his heart. "This girl..." he muttered to himself, his feet already moving involuntarily in that direction.
As he drew closer, he could see Lin Yin tilting her head slightly, the moonlight spilling onto her fair profile, coating it in a clear glow, her long eyelashes casting faint shadows under her eyes.
She seemed immersed in her own thoughts, not even noticing Lin Tian's approach immediately.
It wasn't until that familiar aura enveloped her side that Lin Yin suddenly snapped back to her senses and turned her head abruptly.
When she saw that the person coming was Lin Tian, the blush that had previously faded instantly spread again at an even faster rate, burning from her cheeks to the base of her ears, clearly visible under the moonlight.
"L-Lord?" She shifted her gaze away in a panic, her voice much softer and gentler than usual. "Why did you come over? I... I'm full, don't worry." She tried to hide her embarrassment, her fingers unconsciously pinching a corner of her holy robe.
Seeing her cute appearance of trying to cover things up, Lin Tian's desire to tease her grew even stronger.
He deliberately stiffened his face and said in a serious yet playful tone, "Of course I have to come over and show some concern for my top general! After all, for tonight's 'night shift,' I'll have to rely on you to show your divine might. If because of me, a certain noble Holy Envoy of the Profound Moon becomes distracted and underperforms, wouldn't I, as the Lord, be too guilty to sleep?"
Hearing his obvious playful teasing, Lin Yin was first startled, then realized he was making fun of her for what happened during dinner.
The shyness in her heart was suddenly diluted by a small trace of defiance. She blinked, her previously evasive gaze returning to Lin Tian, a hint of craftiness flashing in her eyes. Her voice also regained some of its usual clarity, but she deliberately dragged out her tone:
"Oh—so the Lord is here to 'care' for his subordinate? Then... how do you plan to 'care' for me? Surely... it's not just lip service?" She tilted her head slightly, the moonlight flowing in her eyes, carrying a rare touch of playfulness.
"Oh ho?" Lin Tian raised an eyebrow, not expecting this usually cold girl to actually counter-attack.
He rubbed his chin, feigning thought, while his eyes sized her up with a smile. "Hmm... someone worked hard to massage my shoulders yesterday. As a courtesy, how about I massage yours today? Caring for the physical and mental health of my generals is also an important responsibility of this Lord!"
He spoke with a straight face, as if it were truly a well-considered decision.
"Ah? That won't do!" Upon hearing this, Lin Yin blurted out almost instinctively, the small bit of craftiness that had just arisen being instantly replaced by alarm.
She waved her hands repeatedly, her face turning even redder. "Lord, sharing your burdens is my duty. How can I let you... let you do this kind of thing for me? If the other soldiers saw, it would affect your prestige..."
