41: Chapter 41: The Peaceful End

She did not immediately withdraw her hand, but instead deliberately slowed her tone, carrying a rare, almost playful sense of probing, and gave a soft "Oh?" The pressure of her massage also lessened, as if she were about to pull away: "So the Lord isn't tired? Then... I suppose Lin Yin was being meddlesome."

As she spoke, those slender, delicate hands, which carried a reassuring warmth and pressure, indeed made a move to leave his shoulders.

In an instant, as the relaxing pressure and soft touch on his shoulders were about to be withdrawn, an inexplicable feeling of "emptiness" washed over Lin Tian. Almost instinctively, his body reacted faster than his brain.

His shoulder leaned back almost imperceptibly, as if trying to hold onto that lingering warmth, while a smile mixed with embarrassment and ingratiation quickly spread across his face, his tone softening:

"Hey, wait! Don't stop!" He quickly corrected himself, giving a sheepish smile that said "you caught me," and continued, "Ahem... well, actually, if I really think about it, it... does feel a bit sore. Yes, right there at the back of my neck. I spent too long looking up at the warning tower screen today... Thank you for your hard work, Captain Lin Yin, could you... help me rub it a bit more?"

This remark was quite charmingly "the thief protesting his innocence." Behind Lin Tian's back, where he couldn't see, the corners of Lin Yin's lips curved upward, like the moon breaking through the clouds. The small joy of her successful prank made a hint of sweetness rise in her heart.

"Alright," she replied in a low voice, her tone carrying a hint of suppressed laughter as her hands became steady and gentle once more.

This time, she massaged with even more care, her fingertips seeking out the acupoints and tense muscles along his shoulders and neck, applying pressure and massaging in circles with just the right amount of force. That unique aura, a blend of coldness and a faint scent of blood, wafted gently with her movements, vaguely enveloping Lin Tian.

Lin Tian no longer played tough; his body slowly relaxed, and he leaned back against the chair, closing his eyes in comfort.

What came from his shoulders was the perfectly measured kneading, dissolving the soreness in his muscles; lingering in his nostrils was the complex yet reassuring scent of her; beside his ears, he could almost hear her soft breathing. The clamor of the battlefield during the day, the busyness of construction, and the pressure of the future seemed to be temporarily shut out by this quiet, intimate moment.

He immersed himself in this rare tranquility. The firelight danced beside them, stretching their shadows long and causing them to sway gently against the warehouse wall, occasionally intertwining. The blue light of the warning tower flickered rhythmically, as if adding a guardian star to the night. Outside the protective barrier in the distance, the roars of monsters continued, yet they seemed to have become a distant background noise.

Lin Yin focused on what she was doing, but her gaze couldn't help but fall on Lin Tian's relaxed, closed-eyed profile.

The firelight illuminated his straight nose bridge and well-defined jawline; his usual playfulness, decisiveness, and humor had all transformed into a quiet exhaustion in this moment. A strange sense of satisfaction and a faint tenderness intertwined in her heart. It seemed that apart from charging into battle, the only thing she could do for him was this moment of clumsy relief.

As for Lin Tian, although his eyes were closed, his senses were exceptionally sharp. He could feel every change in the pressure of her fingertips, could "hear" her subtle adjustments in breathing, and could even imagine her perhaps slightly flushed cheeks and focused expression at this moment.

A subtle atmosphere quietly permeated the space, amidst the silent physical contact and the mingling of their auras. This feeling was not intense, but like a stream under moonlight, flowing quietly and soaking into the heart.

This brief tranquility had nothing to do with romance, yet it seemed to be more than just the relationship between a Lord and his subordinate. In a cruel world, it was a natural, warm, and small consolation between two souls who trusted each other and fought side by side.

That brief moment of tranquility was, after all, urged to an end by the ticking of reality. Lin Yin's soft voice came from behind him, carrying a trace of imperceptible satisfaction and tenderness after completing a small task: "Lord, time is up, everyone... is waiting for you."

"Mm, alright," Lin Tian replied, his voice low and raspy from having his comfortable state interrupted, yet also seemingly somewhat reluctant.

He sat up straight, and the relaxing pressure and warmth on his shoulders departed, bringing a subtle sense of emptiness. He stood up, turned to look at Lin Yin, and smiled at her. That smile contained gratitude, as well as the decisiveness of setting aside their private moment to return to his role as Lord: "Let's go!"

The two arrived one after the other in front of the assembled troops. Twelve hundred soldiers stood in silent solemnity; the dust of the day's fierce battle and the night dew intertwined on their armor, yet their eyes were sharper and brighter than at any other time. The firelight and the blue light from the distant warning tower outlined flickering silhouettes on them.

Lin Tian stood on a makeshift platform, his gaze sweeping over every resolute face. His voice carried through the silent night, clear and steady, filled with unquestionable determination:

"Brothers! In the past, when night fell, we would rest easy, thinking that with the protection of this light barrier, we could safely pass the night. But today, I want to tell you, and tell myself, that such 'stability' only has three days left!"

He then pointed to the protective barrier overhead, which emitted a constant faint light but now seemed to have become fragile: "In three days, this light barrier will dissipate, and the beast tide will surely arrive! At that time, we will have no way back and must face the darkness head-on! Therefore, starting from tonight, we must learn how to fight in the darkness and must adapt to the most insane and ferocious moments of the monsters!"

His words ignited a fire in the soldiers' eyes and also brought a heavy weight of pressure.

"Tonight is the first step in our adaptation to the darkness!" Lin Tian waved his arm, pointing at the shadowy, constantly roaring, terrifying figures outside the protective barrier.

"Relying on the protective barrier, we can advance to attack and retreat to defend. Mystic Rock Spirit Guards, you are still our iron wall; hold the front line for me! Heavy Armored Spearmen, follow closely behind; your spears are the fangs that break the enemy! Moon Shadow Archers, take advantageous positions and hunt freely. Spirit Healing Priests, move around to provide aid, but be sure to look after your own safety!"

He paused, his voice rising, carrying a sense of ruthlessness and encouragement: "The goal—clear all monsters approaching directly in front of the territory! If any Silver-tier big guys show their heads..." He looked at Lin Feng and Lin Yin.

Lin Feng nodded heavily, golden-red battle intent rising in his eyes. Lin Yin gave a slight nod, and the cold moonlight seemed to flow faster around her.

"Lin Feng, you can directly use 'Command of a Thousand Armies' and crush them for me! Lin Yin..." Lin Tian looked at her, and the moment their gazes met, it seemed that more than just words were conveyed.

"You are the main force tonight; as the moonlight slowly rises, your strength is also gradually increasing. Leave the tough nuts in the distance for you to snipe! Remember, as the night deepens and the moonlight grows stronger, your power will only become stronger, and your recovery will only be faster! Tonight, we are going to try to make our levels take a rocket ride!"

"Yes!!" The mountain-shaking, tsunami-like response tore through the silence of the night and ignited the horn of battle.

Lin Tian personally led the army to the edge of the protective barrier. Separated by only a thin layer of light, the scene outside was like hell.

Countless monsters with twisted forms, exuding a stench of rot and an aura of madness, were crowded outside. Their scarlet pupils stared fixedly at the living "flesh and blood" inside, drool flowing, their sharp claws and fangs constantly scraping against the light barrier, emitting a teeth-grinding noise.
