53: Chapter 53 A Clever Search for the Minotaur Tribe
The scene shifts to the north, to the legion led by Lin Feng.
After clearing the stray corrupted monsters that had respawned along the way, the army arrived at the location where the Minotaur hunting party was discovered yesterday.
The traces of battle were still there. Lin Feng felt slightly relieved and called for his deputy, Commander Lin Yu.
"Commander Lin Yu, from here on out, we haven't explored the path ahead. I need to go forward and scout first," Lin Feng said, his voice steady and clear.
"I will take four skilled experts and move forward lightly to scout the situation. You lead the main force, following the marks I leave behind, steadily clearing the area and training the recruits. If we encounter a strong enemy, I will send someone back to notify you. Keep an eye on the situation ahead and be ready to provide support at any time."
Commander Lin Yu nodded, her clear eyes filled with trust and composure. "Go ahead without worry, Brother Lin Feng. Leave the rear to me. May the Holy Light protect you on your journey."
"Good." Lin Feng said no more and picked four of the most clever and elite soldiers. The five of them broke away from the main force, blending into the jungle shadows like ghosts as they silently accelerated forward.
Lin Feng led the way. As a Crimson Sun Divine General, his perception was fully unleashed, yet he suppressed his scorching aura to the extreme.
He instructed the four behind him: "Stay close, watch the flanks and rear. Try to avoid combat if you encounter enemies. If it's unavoidable, finish it quickly to minimize noise."
They moved like a professional special reconnaissance squad, traversing the peril-filled jungle at high speed. When they encountered lone monsters that couldn't be bypassed, Lin Feng would often strike with thunderous force. His crimson gold coiling dragon spear would thrust out like lightning, killing the enemy instantly without giving them a chance to make a sound.
The two Archers were responsible for sentry duty and finishing off enemies, while the Spearmen protected the flanks. Their efficiency was extremely high.
Hard work paid off. After going about seven or eight kilometers deep, they found new clues by a stream. There were fresh axe and blade marks on the ground and rocks, along with spots of blood that hadn't completely dried yet. A faint scent of blood lingered in the air. The bloodstains and footprints pointed in one direction.
"These are marks from weapons, and the blood is very fresh; they must have just left." Lin Feng crouched down to examine them closely, a sharp glint in his eyes. "Let's go, follow them!"
The five of them were invigorated and accelerated their pursuit along the trail.
After traveling another ten kilometers or so, they found their targets in a valley where the trees were relatively sparse: three strong Minotaur warriors were besieging two large, desperate Pitch-black Demonic Tigers. The battle was nearing its end. The Minotaurs roared repeatedly, swinging their battle axes with incredible power and coordinated tactics.
Lin Feng signaled the squad to observe from cover. Soon, the two Pitch-black Demonic Tigers were killed.
The three Minotaurs began skillfully skinning valuable materials, talking to each other in a coarse language. The gist was that it was a good harvest and they could trade it for wine when they returned.
"Their strength is roughly at Bronze 2-3 Stars," Lin Feng quickly judged. He made a hand gesture, and the four behind him understood. They scattered silently like ghosts, using the terrain and bushes to quietly surround the three Minotaurs.
Seeing that the encirclement was complete, Lin Feng stepped out slowly from his hiding place, holding his spear. He had intended to try communicating first to gather information. However, before he could speak...
"It's a human! Kill him! Take him back for a reward!" One of the Minotaurs caught sight of Lin Feng. His yellowish-brown bovine eyes widened. Instead of being cautious or questioning, he erupted with naked killing intent and greed, raising his battle axe to strike at his head! The other two also immediately responded with strange cries, swinging their axes to flank him.
Lin Feng's expression instantly darkened, the temperature in his eyes dropping to freezing point. "Savage and bloodthirsty, you're courting death!" He let out a low cold snort. The crimson gold coiling dragon spear in his hand hummed and vibrated, flashing with a gold and red light!
He didn't use any high-powered skills, just the ultimate application of basic martial arts.
With a sweep of his spear, a majestic force erupted, sending the lead Minotaur and his axe flying like a swatted fly. He crashed through several large trees and fell unconscious.
The spear spun back like a venomous dragon emerging from its cave, instantly piercing the second Minotaur's axe-wielding thigh and pinning him to the ground in agony.
The third Minotaur's axe only just managed to strike at that moment. With a flick of his wrist, Lin Feng's spear traced an arc and precisely struck the side of the axe blade.
"Clang!" Amidst the loud crash, the Minotaur felt an irresistible, scorching force. The webbing of his thumb and forefinger split, and the battle axe flew out of his hand.
Lin Feng followed up with a kick to his chest, sending him flying backward to the ground. The spear followed him like a shadow, its cold tip already pressed against the skin of his throat, piercing the hide and drawing blood. The Minotaur froze instantly, not daring to move.
At this time, the four ambushing soldiers also quickly appeared, restraining the two Minotaurs who were knocked unconscious and injured on the ground.
The tip of Lin Feng's spear trembled slightly, his voice cold: "Answer my questions: What tribe are you from? What is this place? Where is your base?"
The Minotaur with the pierced thigh was quite stubborn, roaring through the pain: "Despicable human! We are warriors of the great Kamo Tribe! The Chieftain will crush you! Wait to be turned into dried meat!" The other restrained one also mumbled curses and threats.
"Kamo Tribe..." Lin Feng noted the name, but other than that, he obtained no more useful information.
As he was about to continue questioning, he caught a sharp glimpse out of the corner of his eye. The eyelids of the first Minotaur, who had been swatted away and appeared unconscious, seemed to twitch very slightly, and his breathing rhythm had changed minutely.
"Playing dead?" A thought flashed through Lin Feng's mind, and he instantly formed a plan. He intentionally beckoned to the soldiers guarding the faking Minotaur: "You two, come here. I have orders for you."
The two soldiers didn't suspect anything. They released their hold on the faking Minotaur and walked toward Lin Feng. Just as they turned around!
"Roar!" The faking Minotaur suddenly bolted upright, bursting with unprecedented speed, and sprinted desperately in one direction without looking back!
He was ecstatic in his heart: "Haha! Stupid humans! I, Yaru, am indeed the smartest! Kelo, Mondo, you can go in peace. I will bring the news to the Chieftain, earn great merit, and enjoy fine wine and cows! Then I'll bring the army back to avenge you!"
The remaining soldiers were startled and were about to give chase.
"No need to chase," Lin Feng stopped them, a cold light flashing in his eyes. His spear struck out like lightning, quickly ending the lives of the two worthless Minotaurs at his feet. Then he quickly ordered his four subordinates:
"You are to return immediately, regroup with Commander Lin Yu, and inform her of the situation here. I will track the one who escaped and find their lair. Don't worry, I know what I'm doing and will return safely."
"Be careful, General!" The four soldiers had absolute confidence in Lin Feng's strength. Without saying more, they saluted and quickly retreated the way they came.
Lin Feng's figure blurred, turning into a faint golden afterimage as he silently gave chase.
He did not kill Yaru immediately. Instead, like the most patient hunter, he hung far back, using the woods and terrain to perfectly hide his aura, his eyes locked onto the green figure that was fleeing in panic but seemed to have a clear direction.
"I hope you can lead me to where I want to go," Lin Feng thought to himself.
