146: Chapter 146: Life as a couple is getting a bit chaotic!

That jerk, he'd already kissed her, yet he still claimed to be a decent person? Who was the indecent one, really!

Lanna was so angry her teeth ached, but she was helpless to do anything about it.

This Chef was sometimes too indecent! And other times, shockingly terrifying!

She really didn't know which side was the guy's most authentic side.

By evening, wisps of cooking smoke rose in the campsite.

A bonfire was burning brightly, with cleaned fish and a wild rabbit roasting over the fire. The grease sizzled, emitting an enticing aroma.

Qin Feng had found some pungent plant leaves, crushed them, and spread them evenly over the roasted meat.

Lanna's stomach growled uncooperatively.

The dinner was ridiculously lavish; for two people who had been on the run for days, this was practically a three-star Michelin feast.

Lanna tore off a rabbit leg and took an impatient bite.

The meat was tender and fresh, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The taste... good! It's just...

"Cough! Cough, cough... So spicy!" Lanna was so spicy that tears were almost coming out.

Her little face was bright red, and she kept fanning herself with her hand. Yet, she couldn't bear to spit out the meat in her mouth. That conflicted look of wanting to eat but fearing the spice looked quite comical.

"Do you people from Long Country all eat such spicy food?"

She gulped down several mouthfuls of water before she could catch her breath, then asked curiously.

Qin Feng was gnawing on a grilled fish; hearing this, his movements paused, and a trace of unnatural awkwardness flashed across his face.

What could he say?

Could he tell her that his advanced culinary skills were the "Sichuan Flavor Master" version produced by the system, which came with a "can't go without spice" passive attribute, and without chili, he wouldn't even know how much salt to add?

"It removes dampness and is good for the body."

He spouted nonsense without changing his expression, then buried his head back into dealing with his grilled fish.

Lanna looked at him with skepticism but didn't pursue the question further, simply eating in small bites.

The night deepened.

Various unknown insect sounds rang out in the jungle, and the bonfire crackled.

The atmosphere was rarely warm and peaceful.

"Hey, Chef." Lanna hugged her knees, watching the dancing flames, and suddenly spoke up.

"Hmm?"

"What... is your name?" She asked this question that had been hidden in her heart for a long time.

Having been on the run for so long and experienced so many life-or-death situations, she still didn't even know this man's real name.

It might not have mattered before, but now, she wanted to know who this man, who made her teeth ache with anger time and again, really was.

Qin Feng's movements stopped.

After a moment of silence, the corners of his mouth curled into an annoying smile.

"Want to know?"

Lanna nodded vigorously.

"That's easy. Come back to Long Country with me, and you'll naturally find out."

Qin Feng threw a piece of firewood into the fire, sending up a spray of sparks.

Once again, he had lightly deflected the question in this manner.

Lanna was a bit disappointed, but for some reason, a strange sense of anticipation arose in her heart.

As if returning to Long Country wasn't an excuse, but a... promise.

"Alright, don't think too much." Qin Feng stood up and brushed the dirt off his body.

"Your task is to hurry up and heal your wounds, and don't drag me down. Go to sleep, private property."

After finishing, he nimbly climbed up a few times, and his figure disappeared into the canopy above, leaving Lanna alone, staring blankly at the bonfire.

She looked up at the dark canopy, as if she could feel a pair of sharp eyes silently guarding everything from within the darkness.

This jerk...

Lanna pursed her lips and cursed in her heart, but the corners of her mouth curled upward uncontrollably.

...

Morning in the forest always came especially early.

When the first ray of sunlight pierced through the layers of the canopy, Qin Feng had already slid down from the tree silently like a nimble cat.

A night of rest had greatly eased his tense nerves.

He stretched his muscles and began to check the traps he had set yesterday.

Luck was on his side; a snare trap had captured another plump jungle chicken.

Now, both breakfast and lunch for today were taken care of.

When he returned to the camp carrying the still-flapping jungle chicken, Lanna had just crawled out of the tent.

Having had a sound sleep, her complexion was much better. Although her face was still a bit pale, her eyes had regained much of their spirit.

Looking at the spoils in Qin Feng's hand and then at the cleaned fish by the fire, she couldn't help but exclaim:

"Chef, I think if you retired and opened a restaurant, business would definitely be booming."

"My appearance fee is very high; you couldn't afford it."

Qin Feng replied without looking up while nimbly processing the jungle chicken.

"Stingy."

Lanna muttered, but she wasn't angry. Instead, she took the initiative to walk to the pond, fetched water using the bamboo tube Qin Feng had whittled yesterday, and set up the pot rack by the fire.

The two worked together, one processing ingredients, the other boiling water. The atmosphere was unexpectedly harmonious, like old partners who had been camping in the wild for years.

After a simple breakfast, Qin Feng changed the dressing on Lanna's wound again.

Her wound was healing better than expected; there were no signs of inflammation, and it had started to scab over.

"At most, we'll rest for another two days, then we must enter the swamp."

Qin Feng looked at her wound and made his judgment.

"Mhm." Lanna responded softly, without refuting.

She knew this rare peace was only temporary.

As long as the Yang Country military was hunting them, they would be in danger every single day.

However, danger often arrived faster and more unexpectedly than anticipated.

Just as Qin Feng was preparing to go to the jungle perimeter to reinforce the warning traps, his Danger Perception instantly made him tense up.

It wasn't a drone!

Nor was it a human!

It was a kind of primal killing intent from a beast, full of violence and bloodlust!

"Get down!"

Qin Feng didn't even have time to explain; he roared.

His whole body lunged forward like an arrow released from a bow, tackling Lanna, who had just stood up, forcefully to the ground.

Almost at the same moment they hit the ground.

"Roarβ€”!"

A deafening roar seemed to overturn the entire forest.

A huge black shadow, carrying a foul wind, suddenly lunged from the bushes not far from their side!

It was a giant wild boar of unimaginable size!

Its body was nearly half the height of a person, its bristles standing up like steel needles, and its blood-red eyes were filled with crazy violence.

Most terrifying were the two tusks sticking out of its mouth, thick and long, like two sharp scimitars, making one's whole body turn cold at the sight.

"Boom!"

The giant wild boar slammed headfirst into the rock they had just been resting against, making a loud noise.

That rock, weighing hundreds of catties, was actually rattled by the impact, with gravel flying everywhere.

Lanna was so scared that the color drained from her face instantly.

She had never seen such a terrifying creature; her mind went blank, and she even forgot to scream.

"Stay put!"
