155: Chapter 155 Who's cursing me behind my back in the middle of the day?
When Qin Feng woke up, it was already noon.
Sunlight filtered through the water curtain, stinging his eyes a bit.
He moved his somewhat stiff body, feeling the soft, warm, and fragrant body in his arms with clear sensation.
Lanna was wrapped around him like an octopus, using both her hands and feet, her head resting on his chest, sleeping soundly, with even a faint trace of drool at the corner of her mouth.
The corner of Qin Feng's mouth twitched.
This woman really didn't treat herself like an outsider.
"Achoo! Achoo!"
He sneezed twice in a row without warning, the sound appearing exceptionally loud in the cave.
Who the hell is cursing me so vigorously behind my back? And two of them at that.
Lanna in his arms was startled awake; she opened her eyes abruptly, and seeing the position she and Qin Feng were in, her pretty face flushed crimson in an instant.
She hurriedly broke free from Qin Feng's embrace, sat to one side, and kept her head bowed, not daring to look at him.
"Um... it was too cold last night."
She explained in a low voice, her tone as faint as a mosquito's buzzing.
Qin Feng sat up, stretched his arm that had gone numb from being pressed, glanced at her sideways, and grinned.
"I get it, physiological needs, just keeping warm."
"But next time you use my private property, you'd better ask for the owner's consent first, otherwise there will be an extra charge."
"You... you jerk!"
Lanna was both embarrassed and angry; she grabbed a small pebble beside her and wanted to throw it, but lowered her hand halfway through.
She couldn't beat him, nor could she out-argue him; she felt that sooner or later she would suffer internal injuries from being angered by this man.
Qin Feng couldn't be bothered to tease her any further; he took out the last bit of dried meat and a flask of water from his backpack.
"Eat up, once we're done, we need to hit the road."
Lanna took the dried meat in a fit of pique and took a fierce bite, as if she were biting into Qin Feng's flesh.
After a simple lunch, the two packed up their gear and once again set off on their escape route.
Passing through the waterfall's water curtain, the humid and muggy air outside rushed to meet them, and the unique, rotten scent of the Death Swamp enveloped them once again.
With the rest they'd had last night, both of their stamina had recovered quite a bit.
Qin Feng led the way, his military dagger dancing in his hands as he cleanly severed the vines blocking their path.
Lanna followed closely behind him, vigilantly observing their surroundings.
"Chef, how much longer do we have to walk before we get out of this hellhole?" Lanna couldn't help but ask.
"Soon," Qin Feng answered without looking back.
"According to the map, it's estimated that in another two days, we'll be able to walk out, and by then you'll see a grassland."
Two days.
Lanna silently repeated this number in her heart, as if she saw hope.
However, Qin Feng's next sentence doused her bit of hope with icy water.
"That is, assuming we can survive these two days."
Just then, Qin Feng's footsteps came to a sudden halt, his gaze instantly turning sharp.
He controlled the bionic spider, checking the latest reconnaissance footage transmitted back.
In the footage, that Yang Country pursuit team had appeared again.
They were very cautious, having abandoned the idea of continuing deeper from last night's explosion point, and instead chose to take a wide detour, catching up from another direction.
The number of people was greater than before, at least fifteen.
Leading them was still that grim-faced officer.
Most crucially, at the very front of that team were those two smugglers.
Guides!
And they were old hunters with extremely rich experience.
Qin Feng's pupils constricted slightly.
The camouflage and misdirection he had employed earlier would likely not be very effective in front of these true children of the jungle.
The bionic spider's lens zoomed in, and it was clearly visible that the two guides were pointing in a direction, saying something to that officer.
And the direction they were pointing was exactly where Qin Feng and Lanna were currently located.
They had been locked onto!
"Damn it, they're truly like adhesive plasters!"
Qin Feng cursed in a low voice, a flash of ruthlessness in his eyes.
If they kept running passively like this, they would eventually be worn down.
Since they couldn't shake them off, then don't leave.
Let them all stay here!
Qin Feng's brain began to run at high speed, and a bold and crazy plan rapidly formed in his mind.
He turned around, looking at the nervous Lanna, but a heart-palpitating smile appeared on his face.
"Russian Girl, want to play a more exciting game?"
"What?" Lanna felt a chill in her heart from his smile.
"A hunting game." Qin Feng's tone was very flat, as if he were talking about a trivial matter. "We act as the hunters, they act as the prey."
Lanna's breath hitched; she knew this man wasn't joking.
"Are you crazy? There are over a dozen of them, and they are well-equipped!"
"That's why we need to pluck out their eyes first."
Qin Feng's gaze once again turned to the footage transmitted by the bionic spider, locking firmly onto those two guides.
Without the guides, this group of well-equipped soldiers would just be headless flies in this Death Swamp.
"Follow me."
Qin Feng didn't explain further; he pulled Lanna and changed direction.
...
An hour later.
The Yang Country pursuit team.
"Officer, they went that way."
A guide pointed ahead, his expression somewhat grave.
"That is the most dangerous part of this swamp; it's full of quicksand and poisonous creatures, even we wouldn't dare enter it easily."
Upon hearing this, a cold sneer appeared on the officer's face.
"Panic-stricken and choosing the wrong path, have they? Very good. The more he runs toward a dead end, the more it shows he has reached his limit."
"Keep chasing!"
The officer waved his hand and gave the order without hesitation.
In his view, the scales of victory had already tipped completely in his favor.
"You can't! Officer, you can't go there." Another guide hurriedly waved his hands to stop him in his anxiety.
"That's right! Officer, we really can't go. The terrain there changes frequently, and if you're not careful, you'll sink into the swamp. You'll die."
The guide's expression changed drastically; clearly, he didn't want to go in.
"Enter! Did you hear me?"
The officer didn't believe in any of that; he directly pressed his gun against their heads.
This wasn't a discussion; it was an order.
The two had no choice but to bite the bullet and enter the depths of the swamp.
Not long after.
The guide walking in the very front raised his hand to signal the team to stop.
He pointed to a twisted, strange tree ahead and lowered his voice: "Something's not right."
"What is it?" the officer asked, frowning.
"Look at the vines on that tree; there are traces of having been cut by a sharp weapon, very fresh. But the ground around it hasn't left any footprints," the other guide added.
This was obviously illogical.
The officer's vigilance also heightened; he made a gesture, and two soldiers immediately raised their guns and cautiously approached the tree.
Just when they were less than five meters away from the tree.
"Pfft! Pfft!"
Two extremely faint sounds of something breaking through the air rang out.
The two soldiers didn't even have time to let out a scream; their bodies stiffened abruptly, and on each of their necks was an additional simple blowdart whittled from a tree branch.
On the blowdarts, a faint blue light flickered.
It was frog poison!
The two fell straight down and died instantly.
