30: Chapter 30: Is he here for solitary confinement, or for a vacation?

Inside the surveillance room, Company Commander Zhou Hailong hung up the phone and continued to observe Qin Feng's situation.

Beside him, the Military Doctor was on high alert, standing by at all times.

As long as Qin Feng showed any sign of physical discomfort, he would initiate rescue measures immediately.

Four hours had already passed.

The giant electronic screen hanging on the wall was divided into four small grids, displaying everything inside The Little Black Room in real time.

Naturally, the cameras were in infrared mode.

They could only capture a blurry human outline, motionless, like a stone statue.

What truly made people's nerves tense were the steady data curves on the electronic instruments.

Heart rate: 61.

Blood pressure: 118/75.

Brainwaves: Alpha band, stable.

"Company Commander Zhou..."

The Military Doctor in charge of monitoring pushed up the glasses on the bridge of his nose, his eyes behind the lenses filled with disbelief.

He checked the data three times before speaking with difficulty, his voice dry.

"This... this data is more stable than when I'm sleeping. Is he... is he meditating inside?"

Company Commander Zhou Hailong did not turn his head, his gaze fixed tightly on the screen, his lips pressed thin.

How the hell did this kid manage to do that?

"What's the situation? I heard that the recruit from the freshman training camp named Qin Feng is still being confined in The Little Black Room?"

"Holy crap, it's been four hours, right? He still hasn't come out?"

A commotion came from the doorway as several instructors poked their heads in.

They had originally come to watch the fun, but when their gazes landed on the data on the screen, everyone's expression froze.

Four hours!

It really had been four hours!

Qin Feng had been inside for four hours!

His physical index data was completely normal.

No! It should be even more normal than they were right now!

The instructors were shocked beyond measure, looking at those lines on the instruments as if they were seeing a monster.

"Am I seeing things? Is this something a college student can do?"

"I'm skeptical. Is this kid really a freshman who just got into college?"

"This is a bit heaven-defying! When I was a raw recruit back in the day, I couldn't even last an hour in The Little Black Room."

"Terrifying! This kid Qin Feng's psychological quality is too terrifying; he's born to be a killer."

"Killer my foot, he's clearly born to be a soldier!"

Time ticked away second by second.

The fifth hour.

The heart rate curve on the screen suddenly showed a sharp spike.

The heart rate instantly surged from 61 to 75, and then, within a few short seconds, slowly fell back, stabilizing again at the 61 level.

It was as if a pebble had been dropped into an ancient well, stirring up only a ripple before falling silent again.

"He moved! There's a fluctuation!"

An instructor shouted out subconsciously, filled with a strange sense of excitement.

"I told you, it's impossible for him to hold out forever."

Another instructor immediately chimed in, his tone carrying an inexplicable certainty.

"The kid's willpower is strong, but he's a recruit after all. Being able to last five hours is already considered a heaven-sent talent."

"That's right, this is called 'extreme rebound'. After long-term mental tension, the body will exhibit a self-protection reaction.

Looking at the magnitude of this fluctuation, his psychological defense line is probably reaching its critical point."

An older instructor stroked his chin and began a professional analysis.

"I guess that within half an hour, he will definitely have a mental breakdown. Either he'll become manic, or he'll beg for mercy."

"I agree. Those who can last six hours are all veterans who crawled out of piles of dead bodies, and even then, they are rare as phoenix feathers and unicorn horns.

Him, a college student who just touched a gun? Impossible, absolutely impossible!"

The instructors talked back and forth, discussing heatedly.

They admitted that Qin Feng was a good seedling, but this admission was built upon their sense of superiority as "veterans."

A recruit, no matter how monstrous, still had to follow human physiology, right!

At this moment, Company Commander Zhou Hailong's brows were knitted into a 'river' shape, his eyes fixed dead on Qin Feng inside the monitor.

Qin Feng, don't you dare disappoint me, kid!

Just then, a sudden change occurred!

On the screen, the curves representing heart rate and brainwaves, like a runaway roller coaster, violently surged upwards!

Heart rate: 80... 100... 120... 145!

The brainwaves instantly jumped from the stable Alpha band into the Theta band, which represented intense emotions!

"It's happening, it's happening! I knew it!"

The instructor who had just asserted that Qin Feng wouldn't last half an hour excitedly slapped his thigh.

"See that! This is the precursor to a breakdown! His psychological defense line has collapsed!"

"Too young, he's too young after all. No matter how calm he acted before, the body's reactions don't lie."

"I admit, this kid Qin Feng is indeed exceptionally gifted, but compared to people who have truly been on the battlefield, there is still a gap in his psychological quality."

The instructors each revealed confident smiles, as if their professional judgment had been perfectly validated.

Even in Company Commander Zhou Hailong's eyes and heart, a trace of wavering appeared.

Could it be... was this really his limit?

The Military Doctor's hand was already on the emergency call button, looking nervously at Company Commander Zhou Hailong, waiting for orders.

However, at the very moment everyone thought Qin Feng was about to collapse, those frantically vibrating curves stopped abruptly without warning.

Then, at a speed that made one's scalp tingle, they plummeted vertically.

Heart rate: 145... 110... 90... 70... 60.

The brainwaves also returned from the chaotic Theta band back to the calm Alpha band.

Finally, all data settled steadily on the exact same level as it had been four hours ago.

The entire process took no more than ten seconds.

In the surveillance room, all sound vanished.

The confidence on the faces of the instructors who were just boasting a moment ago instantly disappeared.

Replacing it was... rigidity, petrification, suffocation!

"How is this possible!"

"What's going on? There was a fluctuation just now, why is it calm again?"

"Is the instrument broken?"

For a moment, various expressions of doubt appeared in the surveillance room.

Even the Military Doctor's finger hovered above the emergency button.

He forgot to press it, and forgot to retract it.

The trace of wavering in Company Commander Zhou Hailong's eyes was instantly replaced by volcanic shock!

What they didn't know was that just a moment ago, because of extreme relaxation, Qin Feng had actually... fallen asleep.

He dreamt of the battlefield from his past life again.

The deafening explosions, the scorching hot shrapnel, the desperate look in his comrade's eyes when he fell...

That sorrow, deep into his bone marrow, made his heart twitch violently, instantly waking him from the nightmare.

The first second he woke up, Qin Feng did not panic, did not shout.

He just quietly felt his heart pounding wildly.

Then, he began to adjust his breathing.

An exhale, an inhale.

An exhale, an inhale.

Like the most precise instrument, he quickly took over all authority of his body.

He forcibly calmed his excited nerves and let the surging adrenaline subside.

In the end, he didn't forget to complain inwardly, "This place is too comfortable, so comfortable that I even had a nightmare."

Subsequently, his consciousness returned to the stillness of an ancient well.

Six hours.

This number, like an invisible thunderbolt, struck everyone on the crown of their heads.

Silence.

A deathly silence.

Every instructor present, one by one, asked themselves: who could maintain absolute calmness for six hours in this kind of environment?

Perhaps there were some.

But definitely no more than one.

That was Company Commander Zhou Hailong.

And now, a college military training recruit who had just joined the camp for a month had done it.

What kind of psychological quality is this?

This is no longer just a heaven-sent talent; this is a monster! A freak!

Company Commander Zhou Hailong's tense face finally bloomed into an extremely brilliant smile.

Good kid!

You really didn't disappoint me!

"Company Commander!"

The Military Doctor said urgently: "It's been six hours! This is already the endurance limit for a veteran! I suggest terminating the confinement immediately!

He is just a college student; if he leaves behind any permanent psychological trauma, we cannot bear the responsibility!"

Company Commander Zhou Hailong's smile faded, and he scanned the surrounding instructors.

"Do you all feel the same way?"

He didn't answer directly, but asked instead.

"Who still remembers the performance report for Qin Feng over this past month?"

An instructor answered subconsciously: "Report, Company Commander, comprehensive rating S-level, all physical training events, all ranked at the top."

"And his shooting scores?"

"...Full marks."

"What about the last simulated tactical confrontation?"

"...Zero casualties, completely annihilated the Blue Team, tactical layout... could be called perfect."

Company Commander Zhou Hailong nodded and returned his gaze to the display screen.

"So, tell me, is six hours his limit?"

Everyone was silent.

The Military Doctor opened his mouth, but in the end, swallowed back his words of persuasion.

Yes, using common sense to judge a monster is in itself an unreasonable behavior.

Thus, everyone continued to observe.

The seventh hour.

The static infrared outline on the screen finally moved.

Qin Feng slowly stood up and stretched.

Everyone's heart instantly tightened.

Was he finally unable to hold on?

However, the scene that happened next made everyone in the entire surveillance room stare until their eyeballs were about to pop out.

Qin Feng was seen starting to move his limbs in that narrow space of only one square meter.

The next second.

He supported his hands on the ground, kicked his feet against the smooth wall, his body parallel to the wall, and started doing standard "gecko push-ups."

A set of twenty, relaxed and comfortable.

Then, he turned to his side, supporting himself with one hand on the ground, with his other hand and leg pointing straight at the ceiling, maintaining a perfectly executed "side plank" in the absolute darkness.

The indicators on the vital signs monitor began to fluctuate rhythmically.

But that was not a sign of a mental breakdown; it was a normal physiological response to high-intensity exercise!

In the surveillance room, everyone was stunned.

They looked at the blurry figure on the screen, in the cramped space, using all sorts of incredible, high-difficulty movements to train his muscle strength, core stability, and flexibility to the extreme.

"What the? This kid is actually working out in The Little Black Room?"

"Absurd! This is just absurd! This is possible too?"

"He's crazy, he's crazy! Working out in The Little Black Room, what on earth is this kid thinking?"

"Good grief! Working out? He actually thought of that. I'm afraid this kid is the first person in the history of the Military Region's Little Black Room to do so."

Seeing this scene, the instructors were shocked beyond measure and didn't know what to say.

This wasn't even the most absurd part; the most absurd part was that Qin Feng was actually having a blast working out in The Little Black Room.

He couldn't stop!

He simply couldn't stop!

Is he here for confinement?

He's clearly treating the confinement room like a private VIP gym!

To have this kind of mindset in such an extreme environment where the five senses are almost completely deprived.

How on earth did this kid Qin Feng manage to do it?

"Freak..."

"Monster..."

I don't know who it was that muttered these two words.

No one could use normal vocabulary to describe everything they were seeing anymore.

One instructor couldn't help it and cursed.

"Is this... is he here for confinement, or for a vacation?"
