158: Chapter 158 Don't panic! Our enemy is being watched.

"Let's go, my personal property. Stop daydreaming here; we need to change our outfits."

Qin Feng had already started planning a new route.

He led Lanna, carefully bypassing the checkpoints, and headed in a direction deep into the grasslands.

Half an hour later.

Behind a small hill, they discovered a herdsman's tent.

Outside the tent, a few washed-out traditional Yang Country garments hung on a clothesline.

Qin Feng gestured for Lanna to "wait a moment," then, like a civet cat, he crept over silently.

A few minutes later, he returned with two sets of clothes and a felt hat in his hands.

"Put these on." He tossed a relatively clean set of women's clothing to Lanna.

"Did you... steal these?" Lanna looked at the clothes in her hands, hesitant.

"What do you mean steal? This is borrowing!" Qin Feng corrected her righteously.

Lanna: "..."

Soon enough.

The two found a secluded spot to change clothes.

Qin Feng put on a gray robe and the felt hat, then grabbed a handful of dirt from the ground, mixed it with grass juice, and smeared it messily on his face.

In just a few minutes, the image of a native Yang Country herdsman was freshly baked.

He looked over Lanna, who had finished changing.

With her blonde hair, blue eyes, and fair skin, even dressed in local attire, that exotic charm couldn't be hidden; she looked exactly like a foreign tourist visiting the grasslands for inspiration.

The two, one after the other, disguised themselves as a tour guide and a tourist and blended into the small town.

The town wasn't large, and its architectural style was full of rich grassland characteristics.

On the streets, residents in ethnic clothing and horse-drawn carriages carrying goods could be seen everywhere.

The air was filled with the sweet scent of milk tea and the charred aroma of roasted meat.

Lanna had always been curious: didn't the Chef not know the Yang Country language?

Now, seeing him chatting so easily with the locals, this jerk was lying again.

He even said he didn't know the Yang language; it turned out he had been lying to her from the very beginning.

Jerk! Damn liar! Stinky scumbag!

Consequently, Qin Feng gained a string of nicknames in Lanna's heart!

It had to be said, Qin Feng's disguise was perfect.

That fluent Yang Country dialect was even more authentic than what some locals spoke.

He led Lanna through winding paths and eventually found a somewhat run-down family inn in a remote corner of the town.

The innkeeper was an elderly Yang Country woman who greeted them enthusiastically when she saw guests arrive.

Qin Feng used the local dialect to haggle with the landlady for a long time, successfully securing a room on the second floor.

Walking into the room, a faint musty smell wafted over.

The room was very simple, with only a bed and a table.

But for the two who had just crawled out of a swamp, this place was practically paradise.

Lanna rushed to the bathroom immediately; she felt like she would mold over if she didn't take a bath.

Qin Feng walked to the window, carefully lifted a corner of the curtain, and observed the street outside.

Everything seemed a bit too smooth.

So smooth that it made him feel a trace of unease.

His intuition told him that this seemingly peaceful town was like a camouflaged hunting ground.

And they were the prey that had just stepped into the trap.

Hot water washed over her, taking away the fatigue of the past few days.

Lanna felt every pore in her body relaxing; she felt like she had come back to life.

This escape journey was even more thrilling than the sum of her life over the past twenty-plus years.

The moment she walked out of the bathroom, Qin Feng was sitting at the table, wiping a military dagger.

Under the dim, yellow light, his profile was sharp and distinct, his eyes focused and keen, as if the dagger wasn't a weapon, but a part of his body.

Hearing the commotion, he didn't even look up, just said indifferently: "Finished washing? Go to bed and sleep for a while; we might need to move in the second half of the night."

"Why?" Lanna asked subconsciously.

"This inn has a problem."

Qin Feng sheathed the dagger; his voice wasn't loud, but it made the air in the room instantly freeze.

"What kind of problem?" Lanna's heart immediately leapt to her throat. "That landlady..."

"The landlady is fine, just an ordinary businesswoman."

Qin Feng stood up, walked to the window, and his gaze landed on an inconspicuous two-story building diagonally opposite.

"The problem is there."

Lanna followed his gaze; it was just an ordinary residential building with closed windows, showing no abnormalities.

"From the time we entered until now, the curtain on the second floor of that building has been lifted three times."

"Each time, it was in the direction of our room's window."

Qin Feng's tone was terrifyingly calm.

"Also, just now when I went downstairs to ask for a pot of hot water, two patrols of herdsmen passed by the street in front of the inn within ten minutes."

"Their pace, eyes, and movements—one look and you can tell they aren't ordinary people."

Lanna felt a chill rise up her spine.

She thought she was vigilant enough, but compared to this man, she was practically like an ignorant infant.

He had actually observed so many details in such a short time.

"Are they plainclothes officers from Yang Country?"

"Yes," Qin Feng replied.

"It seems this town is a key area they've deployed surveillance in. We've been spotted."

"Then... what do we do now? Should we charge out?" Lanna clenched her fists nervously.

"Charge?" Qin Feng looked back at her with a look like he was staring at an idiot.

"There's at least a platoon of troops outside, plus hidden sentries. If we charge out now, we'll just be sitting ducks."

He paused, a playful smile suddenly curling at the corners of his mouth.

"Don't rush; a hunter needs patience. Sometimes, the best prey is the one that delivers itself to your door."

After speaking, he started to "rest his eyes."

In reality, he was looking at the map route in the red treasure book.

To successfully return to the Dragon Country, he had to cross these grasslands and reach the border Gobi Desert.

Lanna struggled for a long time, but she eventually decided to listen to him and lay down on the bed to rest.

However, with her nerves taut, how could she sleep?

She closed her eyes, but her mind was filled with what Qin Feng had just said.

This man seemed to never know what fear meant.

Time ticked by, second by second.

The night grew deeper.

The town also became completely quiet.

Just when Lanna was about to drift off into sleep, Qin Feng's voice suddenly sounded.

"They're here."

Lanna jolted and sat up abruptly from the bed.

"Who's here?"

Qin Feng didn't answer, just made a gesture for silence, then pointed at the door.

In the hallway, a series of extremely faint footsteps could be heard, finally stopping outside their door.

"Knock, knock, knock."

The knocking sounded, neither too light nor too heavy, but in the dead of the night, it was exceptionally clear.

"Who is it?"

Qin Feng asked impatiently in the Yang Country dialect, heavy with drowsiness.

Outside the door came the landlady's voice, carrying a hint of fawning and nervousness.

"Guest, it's me. The town's patrol unit is doing a routine check; please open the door and cooperate."

They're here!

Lanna's heart instantly leapt to her throat.
