28: Chapter 0028 Secret

Before entering the cave, Felina stopped Gelia and Li Size behind her and said in a solemn voice:

"Be careful!

There are still a large number of undead creatures here, and their aura seems to be Knight Rank. Judging by the air humidity and this stench, I suspect they are Zombie Monsters.

Zombie Monsters generally have a Physique above 3.0, strong resistance to blows, and strength approaching 3. Their agility is relatively low, but they can release plague toxins and corpse poison around them.

You two are both melee fighters, so it might be difficult to fight. Why don't you let my skeletons go in one by one and drag them out?"

Li Size was fine, but Gelia felt a bit awkward. She thought to herself:

I, a dignified Deputy Director of the police department, agreed to help, but I ended up just tagging along the whole time.

So awkward online...

Fortunately, there were only thirty-six zombies in the mine, but capturing and contracting them took the three of them nearly an hour. Twelve weaker Skeleton Soldiers had their Soul Fires shattered and were completely destroyed.

After confirming there were no more zombies in the mine, Gelia and Felina threw several "Cleanse" spells into the cavern.

Feeling the air was fresh, Felina tested the air for residual toxins. Then, the three slowly entered the underground passage.

After some exploration, they confirmed this was indeed an abandoned mine pit, and there was no remaining large deposit of minerals as they might have imagined.

The Gray Mist Mountain government couldn't be that incompetent; they would have used appropriate methods to confirm the mineral depletion before putting up the listing.

The structure of the mine had been reinforced with witchcraft, so the structure was relatively stable.

The underground mine space was vast, roughly estimated to have nearly thirty thousand square meters of usable space—a free piece of real estate, so to speak.

"Careful!"

Felina suddenly cried out, having spotted an anomaly, but unfortunately, it was too late.

A ripple spread across the air like the surface of water, and a translucent Ghost suddenly appeared from the adjacent pit wall, lunging into Li Size's body. Li Size instantly felt himself fall into a stupor, becoming muddled and confused.

Fortunately, Felina immediately took out a bag of purification water and splashed it onto Li Size. Wisps of pale black transparent smoke rose, and the Ghost wailed as it detached from Li Size's body.

The startled Li Size felt as if he had been doused with ice water, his whole body icy cold. The purification water slowly seeped into his body, and waves of warmth gradually surged up from within him.

Li Size was quite frustrated:

This was the second time he had been attacked by a Ghost. What kind of Physique did he have?

Moreover, the Land Bureau Deputy Director Slav had clearly warned them about the presence of a Wraith. He hadn't seen it before and assumed it was false information, but now he had been possessed by a Wraith trying to devour his Soul. Fortunately, Felina saved him in time.

The Wraith hissed at the three of them from the Void Realm, but now two of the three people carried terrifying energy auras, and the purification water on the third person, who was originally an ordinary person, was also an energy that could harm it.

Driven by instinct, it wanted to slip away.

Felina quickly took out two bundles of beast tendons from her bag and merged them with the purification water.

She cast the Hand of Witchcraft to control the two bundles of beast tendons to form a cage glowing with faint golden light, trapping the Wraith to prevent its escape. Then, she performed 'Spirit Communication Witchcraft' intending to contract this Wraith.

The Wraith inside the cage resisted violently, even colliding with the cage walls and soaking the purification water-infused cage in an attempt to escape.

Unfortunately, its power was too weak to break free. Li Size stood nearby, using purification water to help Felina replenish the cage's power. Felina's fair face grew paler, sweat breaking out in dense drops as if she were exhausted.

After a moment of stalemate, Felina's face brightened, and she exhaled a breath of turbid air. The Wraith was finally contracted successfully:

"What great luck!"

After Felina's explanation, Li Size and Gelia finally learned that this Wraith originally possessed an extremely strong obsession.

Such Obsession Wraiths generally could not be contracted by Necromancers...

But nothing is absolute. Necromancers who researched deeply discovered that if one could resolve the obsession of this 'Obsession Wraith,' they could successfully contract it.

Moreover, compared to ordinary Wraiths, these Obsession Wraiths had stronger growth potential and could grow alongside the Necromancer.

If the obsession could not be resolved in a short time, it would cause a backlash against the Necromancer, taking a long time to dissipate.

Through the feedback from the Spirit Communication Witchcraft, Felina learned that the Wraith's obsession was to kill Police Captain Wilson.

Yes, the Wilson who had died during the mission of Li Size and the others earlier.

That was why Felina said they were extremely lucky. The Obsession Wraith successfully completed its contract with Felina only after the Soul Contract unique to Spirit Communication Witchcraft confirmed the obsession's fulfillment. After the contract was complete, Felina also learned the reason for the Wraith's obsession.

The Wraith was Bobby, the younger brother of the original mine owner. His older brother had discovered a secret of the Viscount Weisman Family about six years ago, leading the Viscount to secretly order Wilson to murder his entire Family in the abandoned mining area. Bobby himself was strangled to death by Wilson's own hands. Li Size also recalled the tragic case he heard about as a child six years ago: Bobby's Family in the mining area was wiped out by an undead monster that unexpectedly appeared in Gray Mist Mountain Town.

When Gelia heard Felina recount how Wilson had wiped out Bobby's Family, she excitedly brought up the knight sword in her hand and angrily slashed it against the pit wall, sending up bursts of flying stones: "Damn corrupt cop Wilson! And this bastard Viscount Weisman, to kill his own citizens for a secret!"

Speaking of the 'secret,' Gelia blinked, looked at Li Size and Felina, and the story of the two of them earlier gave her bad associations. She opened her eyes wide and asked with a tremor: "Holy crap! No way!"

What kind of secret required murder?

Rice had ordered Felina to kill people because of espionage and treason.

Viscount Weisman's brutal act was also highly suspicious. Regardless, this secret must involve a very great evil!

Li Size thought even further and could basically confirm his suspicion. He had already wondered how Rice, arriving in Gele City for only a month, could find people like Wilson and Felina—who were highly likely to join an enemy spy organization—with such precise information.

This clearly indicated he had an extremely powerful intelligence network within the Crimson Soul Duchy.

After successfully surrounding Rice, Li Size had asked Sven about this matter. The answer he received then was that all the intelligence Rice obtained came from within the Feiting Federation.

Clearly, the 'The Lurkers' organization, to avoid the loss of expanding the chain of captures and exposing the information source, had isolated the information source from Rice, preventing him from directly accessing it. Instead, they went to great lengths to route it through the Feiting Federation.

What did this mean?

Li Size understood it to mean that the information source held a high and important position within the Crimson Soul Duchy, absolutely could not be easily exposed, and the source's importance and status within the organization were higher than Rice's.

At this moment, combining the information Felina obtained from the Ghost Bobby, Li Size inferred that the Mayor of Gele City—the current Viscount Weisman—was that information source, and he had betrayed the Crimson Soul Duchy at least seven or eight years ago.

Gelia and Felina listened quietly to Li Size's analysis and also felt this possibility was very high. They hadn't expected the situation to be this dire.
