8: Chapter 0008 Spy Shadow

Gray Mist Mountain region is located in the southwest, constantly shrouded in pale purple sorcery mist, and the snow arrives half a month later than in the north.

Furthermore, the life-or-death crisis of driving away the pursuers last night had passed, and Li Size pulled his collar tighter, feeling a bit warmer.

However, that mysterious middle-aged man wearing the rune ring was clearly the source that made Felina determined to assassinate him.

Li Size rubbed his reddened hands from the cold, feeling helpless about this, and could only rely on Gelia and the police department's sorcery tracking methods.

So, before parting, Li Size tugged on Gelia's cuff, invited her into the shadow where the street corner's sorcery lamplight couldn't reach, and lowered his voice to say:

"Deputy Director Goliath, if that mysterious man isn't caught, I fear there are more sorcery traps waiting for me. So, I have an idea..."

Li Size planned to go home and hide for three days, having the police department forge news that Felina's assassination was successful, luring that man out, and then wiping them all out—this is called eradicating evil completely!

Gelia patted Li Size's shoulder, her eyes full of satisfaction, and laughed heartily:

"I truly didn't misjudge you, kid. You're much smarter than those big guys under me who only know how to carry sorcery shields!

Come work at the police department after graduation.

You and I are thinking along the same lines. I've already asked a friend in the city to investigate that undocumented man..."

She paused, and Gelia glanced at Felina, who was restrained by sorcery handcuffs, and sneered:

"Daring to use necromancy to harm people in my territory, he must be... eradicated completely!"

Perisman and the others touched the sorcery daggers at their waists, feeling no awkwardness despite their 'Big Sister Head' being scolded.

Although they had only known Li Size for three days, his intellect and courage to confront a sorcerer head-on had conquered these men, making them regard him as one of their own.

The smarter their own brother was, the safer it was to follow him.

Li Size was overjoyed internally and repeatedly expressed his thanks. He then leaned closer to Gelia's ear and whispered:

"Big Sister Head, I have one small favor to ask of you."

Gelia raised an eyebrow and tapped her sorcery belt with her finger. She was slightly impatient, but seeing that the kid was quite pleasing to the eye, she still said:

"Speak!"

Li Size glanced at Felina and said:

"You also know that I was supposed to go home tonight to discuss the academy's equipment procurement matters; now that Felina has been arrested, I fear the Dean will go back on his word.

The department will surely need to communicate with the Dean. Could you perhaps help me put in a word so we can continue our cooperation? I'll stay home and handle this matter during this time."

"You kid were almost killed by necromancy, and you're still thinking about this matter!

Aren't you worried that Felina lied to you, and there was no procurement deal at all?"

Gelia glared at Li Size, asking in surprise; this kid had quite the nerve.

Li Size scratched his head and smiled:

"No! I know she didn't lie to me!

Although there are still questions, like how she would report back to the Dean after killing me to complete the procurement."

Gelia stroked her chin and said seriously:

"Your transaction worth tens of gold coins... Frankly, after something like this happened, if I were the Dean, I definitely wouldn't continue cooperating with you. If I step in to speak, I'd be using my Face. It's not right to do it for free, is it?"

Li Size's heart sank; just as expected...

Li Size had a premonition, raised one finger, and whispered:

"1 Gold, as thanks for Big Sister Head's help."

Big Sister Head was the private name Perisman and the others used for Gelia, so Li Size calling her that didn't sound awkward.

Gelia put her hands on her hips and shook her head:

"My Face is only worth 1 Gold? No way, 5 Gold!"

"Cough! Cough! Big Sister Head, my family works ourselves to death making all this and can't earn that much. Leave me some money for gruel! 3 Gold, no more than that!"

Li Size quickly waved his hands and said.

Gelia broke into a broad smile, and Perisman and the others also started laughing:

"Deal! You kid have a conscience, it's not wasted that your Sister helped you!

In Gray Mist Mountain Town from now on, as long as you don't break the law, mentioning my name will work.

Oh, right, don't forget the fee for the exorcism medicine I gave you last time.

Hmm, did the energy detector break?"

Seeing Li Size take out the intact energy detector, Gelia's mouth twitched, and a trace of disappointment appeared on her Face...

Li Size had been heavily fleeced, and though he grumbled verbally, he touched his pocket and said:

"Big Sister! Can the communication fees for these last few days, 15 Copper, be reimbursed for me?"

"What communication fees? It's getting late, we still need to go back to record the sorcery statements.

Lei Wan, use the sorcery motorcycle to give this kid a ride. He still owes 3 Gold and 10 Silver, don't let him die."

Gelia waved her hand and quickly left with her group, leaving Li Size and Lei Wan in the cool breeze.

Li Size sighed; this flower of the police department was truly... fond of blackmail.

Li Size finally relaxed. He had planned to sleep in until noon, but just as dawn broke, a Tiefling ran to the blacksmith shop to fetch him to the police station, saying Gelia had new intelligence to discuss.

At the entrance of the Gray Mist Mountain Town Police Station stood a stone tablet engraved with glowing runes, and the sorcery lamps at the door were still lit.

Gelia pulled over a capable young man slightly older than her and introduced him to Li Size:

"This is my Senior Brother, Captain Sven from the Internal Affairs Department in Gele City."

"Not bad! Young and promising. Gelia told me about you all morning. To earn praise from my Junior Sister, you kid are quite good!"

Sven patted Li Size's shoulder, greeted him with a smile, and then took out a contract stamped with a rune seal and handed it to Li Size.

"This is a confidentiality agreement; sign it first before we talk."

'Violation of this agreement shall be deemed treason!'

The eight scarlet characters at the bottom of the contract were written in sorcery ink, glaringly conspicuous. Li Size's heart sank:

Things were getting more and more complicated.

He didn't sign immediately, holding up the contract and asking Sven:

"Can I learn about the Internal Affairs Department first?"

Gelia glanced at Sven, saw him nod, and explained with a smile:

"The Internal Affairs Department is the highest intelligence agency directly under the Grand Duke's command. Cases involving state secrets are handled by them."

Li Size never expected that only three days after his Transmigration, he would be involved with the nation's highest intelligence agency. His head ached, and he rubbed his temples, sighing:

"Can I refuse to sign?"

Gelia smiled, while Sven shook his head:

"You are already involved, and it pertains to the top-secret mission we have next. You must sign."

Li Size took a deep breath, frowned, and mocked:

"Is there money for signing?"

Sven looked at Li Size, then at Gelia, and laughed:

"You two are so alike, haha!"

Gelia dared not put on airs in front of her Senior Brother and covered her mouth to laugh:

"This kid, even when facing death, is still thinking about the order with the academy.

He gets bold when he sees gold coins; I can't compare to him."

Sven chuckled wryly:

"There's no money for signing the contract. However, since you're participating in this plan, I can list you as an auxiliary member. You'll receive a monthly subsidy of 20 Silver and can get free sorcery protection talismans."

Li Size signed his name helplessly, shrugged, threw the contract back to Sven, and pouted:

"It's just pocket change."

Sven laughed in exasperation, and Gelia pouted coquettishly:

"Senior Brother, don't try to steal people from my Gray Mist Mountain Police Department."

"Cough, cough!" Sven coughed awkwardly, adjusting the badge engraved with the radiant rune on his waist:

"We'll discuss Li Size's affairs later. Let's first talk about the 'Counter-Espionage' plan—the strategy of driving stakes into the enemy's body.

Perisman, you guys go out first and close the door, don't let the sounds inside leak out..."

Li Size frowned, muttering to himself:

"Counter-Espionage? Did I hear that wrong?"

What kind of sorcery spy case was this?

Li Size slapped his thigh, instantly feeling like he had stumbled into something huge. The monthly subsidy of 20 Silver suddenly seemed very unfair, didn't it?

Li Size pursed his lips and cursed internally:

"Damn sorcery capitalists..."

Sven took out a glowing sorcery crystal from hisHuai and projected a blurry image:

"Perhaps guided by sorcery, the portrait Gelia transmitted to the city using a communication rune is related to a recent espionage case involving the Feiting Federation..."

As he spoke, Sven used the finger wearing the rune ring to take out two portraits: one transmitted by Gelia using a flying message rune, and another he had saved using a sorcery scroll.

The man in the portrait was exactly the same as the undocumented man Felina had described in Li Size's memory; it was indeed the same person.

Sven pointed to the portrait and explained:

"His name is Rice. He is an illegal immigrant.

Intelligence from an external informant indicates that this person is a newly promoted Level Eight member of Feiting's 'Stalkers'. He was ordered about two months ago to infiltrate Gele City to establish a secret spy network; his objective is currently unknown.

We originally learned his entry time and location through the border monitoring station, but he used an unknown invisibility sorcery to evade monitoring.

He didn't enter as originally planned, and even though we tracked his movements, we found no trace. I didn't expect Junior Sister to find him first."

Sven patted Li Size's shoulder and said with a smile:

"You all have done us a huge favor in cracking this spy case!"

Li Size stroked his chin, and Gelia raised an eyebrow. The two asked in unison:

"Is there money?"

Then they exchanged a look, their eyes shining with the glint of gold coins—in that glance, it was clear they were both money lovers. My Dao is not lonely.
