3: Chapter 0003 Medicine

With limited clues, the few of them were at a loss.

Perisman rubbed his brow, feeling that Li Size's Deduction indeed made some sense: the killer was either one of those foreign sorcerers or hiding among the academy instructors.

He rubbed his hands together and proposed applying for a search warrant directly to investigate them all.

Li Size was actually somewhat tempted.

The police station might really have some special means to lock onto the killer directly.

But this was, after all, a place that valued order, and Gelia immediately shook her head in refusal:

"Investigating foreign sorcerers can still be done under the guise of a surprise inspection.

But investigating the academy isn't that simple. And..."

She pursed her lips, her brow furrowing slightly.

This killer is extremely cunning!

Judging by his ability to manipulate Ghosts to commit the crime, he is definitely a guy with both power and brains; he won't be easy to catch.

Li Size didn't have any good ideas for the moment either.

He looked down at his palms; he had just used the exorcism potion to clear away the residual Ghost aura on his body.

He suddenly looked up and asked:

"If someone is manipulating Ghosts, will the caster also leave traces on their body?"

Gelia looked at the young man before her again with some surprise.

He was only nineteen, and having just experienced such a bizarre incident, he was still able to remain so calm with a clear train of thought.

He was also quite easy on the eyes...

It was a pity; she had already pulled his file:

His Mental Energy was too low, and with only one year left in his nine-year academy career, it was simply too late for him to step through the gates of sorcery.

What a pity!

She sighed softly in her heart, but answered aloud:

"That's right. As long as anything has happened, it will leave a trace.

In advanced sorcery, there are many methods to trace the past, or even recreate the images of the time."

Perisman rubbed his chin with a thoughtful expression.

Seeing his guess confirmed, Li Size continued:

"Then the caster must also have traces on them.

If we suspect someone, is there any covert way to detect it?"

Upon hearing this, Perisman's eyes lit up, and he slapped his thigh in excitement:

"That's right! We can go directly to the academy and check them one by one; that guy must still be carrying the aura of the undead.

This way, we wouldn't even need a search warrant to drag the killer out!"

Gelia smiled slightly and nodded, but after thinking for a while, she shook her head:

"No. There are two problems:

First, if we make such a big commotion, the killer will definitely hide or run away.

Second, there seems to be some secret hidden behind this murder case.

If we investigate publicly, it might cause these secrets to disappear completely."

Li Size nodded gently; he had thought of this too.

The opponent had strong anti-investigation awareness; rash action would only alert the enemy.

Gelia looked at Li Size, hesitated for a moment, and finally had Lei Wan go to the logistics room to fetch one more thing.

A pair of vintage-style metal glasses lay quietly on a velvet cushion. The silver-gray frames were engraved with intricate runes, shimmering with a faint, ghostly light under the illumination.

The lenses were not ordinary glass but were polished from some unknown crystal, with faint starlight shimmering within them.

"This is an Energy Detector," Gelia's voice carried a mysterious rhythm.

"It allows you to see forces invisible to ordinary people.

Whether it's sorcery residue, spiritual power trails, or otherworldly energy fluctuations, they will all appear as halos of different colors."

She gently lifted the glasses, her fingertips brushing over the ancient carvings on the temple arms:

"Deep red represents dangerous magic power, deep blue indicates Soul power, and the eerie purple-black...

often signifies forbidden energy from the abyss."

Seeing Li Size listening intently, Gelia paused and continued to explain:

"It can detect energy and energy attributes in the air, with a precision of up to 0.05 Demonic Energy.

At this level of precision, if the opponent is a caster, traces from within seven days can be detected."

She then demonstrated how to use it:

The user only needs to tap the frame twice to activate the detection function, which can be used five times a day.

She handed the glasses to Li Size and said:

"I'll lend it to you for now.

If you break it, the internal price for compensation is fifty silver coins!"

Li Size took the glasses and couldn't help but complain inwardly:

All right, case closed; so that's where Perisman learned his penny-pinching habits.

He hesitantly put on the glasses, the cold metal touch making him shiver slightly.

He tapped twice as Gelia instructed; at first, his vision was completely blurry...

But as he concentrated, the world around him began to transform:

Wisps of silver threads appeared in the air, eerie purple spots remained on the walls, and Gelia was wrapped in a layer of brilliant golden halo.

Suddenly, a glaring blood-red light streaked past outside the window. Li Size ripped off the glasses, his heart pounding wildly.

Those invisible forces had been lurking in daily life all along; this realization made him feel both terrified and excited.

He took a deep breath, and a Pay-to-Win prompt appeared in the depths of his consciousness:

[Supernatural item detected. Do you wish to consume 1 energy points for Analysis?]

Li Size stared at the glaring "0" in the top right corner of the interface; the energy points column was completely empty.

Without energy points, the two tempting functions of Analysis and Deduction, though close at hand, were like being separated by an invisible barrier.

He sighed helplessly, but his gaze couldn't help but sweep over the Pay-to-Win System's description of these two functions again.

[Analysis]:

It can perform a deep scan of objects within the range of perception, displaying all information in a digitized format.

Even more magically, it can convert complex information such as knowledge Systems and sorcery spells into a gentle stream of information.

It is directly infused into the depths of the brain, saving the long and painful learning process.

[Deduction]:

This function is even more terrifying.

It can perform logical Deductions based on existing knowledge reserves according to the user's needs, and can even derive brand-new branches of knowledge and solutions.

This is exactly the same as the functions of the old Mo-Zhe chip; the only difference is that it requires consuming precious energy points.

Having learned more specific information about the [Pay-to-Win] ability, Li Size realized the true existence of supernatural power in this world through the small Energy Detector.

This made him infinitely yearn for the future, but everything would have to wait until he survived the current deadly crisis!

By this time, the sky was already beginning to brighten...

The police station obviously did not provide breakfast.

Li Size requested to return to the academy first. Gelia arranged for Perisman and the others to conduct a surprise inspection of those foreign sorcerers, demanding that not one be missed.

Although her intuition told her it was unlikely to be these people, her professional training did not allow her any negligence.

This point made Li Size secretly admire her:

This flower of the police station was truly not just for show; she was completely different from that person surnamed Liu on Blue Star.

Gelia dropped Li Size off near the academy, and after confirming no one was following, she let him return to the school on his own, reminding him to report promptly via message if there was any news.

Walking through the school gate, Li Size suddenly remembered: Gelia didn't give him communication fees! Using this kind of town-level communication node cost five coppers each time!

He hurriedly ate a free breakfast:

There was milk, honey butter bread baked from fine flour, and a few fire-bird eggs. It was clear that the Crimson Soul Duchy was not only wealthy but also well-governed.

He felt a bit sleepy after eating and originally wanted to return to the dormitory to catch up on sleep.

But then he remembered that there was Snape's Potion class and Mary's Sorcery Basics class this morning. Feeling he shouldn't miss this valuable knowledge, he forced himself to stay awake and walked into the classroom...

Snape stood in the shadow of the podium, his black robe hem making almost no sound as it swept across the floor.

He was around forty years old, his eyes beneath the hood sunken like cold pools. The heavy dark circles looked as if they had been stained with ink, and his gaze carried the coldness of a viper as it swept across the classroom...

Those were the traces left by dealing with forbidden potions all year round.

His fingertips were stained with barely noticeable purple potion residue, and faint Mental Energy fluctuations lingered around him.

Although he was only an Intermediate Wizard Apprentice, he made the air seem to freeze, and even the wind outside the window dared not easily blow into this Potion classroom.

His voice was low and cold, like sandpaper scraping against glass, and his fingertips tapped lightly on the edge of the podium...

The green potion in the test tube on the podium suddenly rotated eerily, forming a tiny vortex:

"Students, you will graduate in a little over a year.

The Materials and principles of common Potions have basically been taught in the previous years.

But I know that the vast majority of you will not become Wizards, and this knowledge will be hard to use in the future."

These words were like ice picks stabbing into everyone's hearts; although they were facts, they carried his unique sense of oppression.

Gray Mist Mountain Lower Academy had nine grades, with nineteen to twenty-three classes per grade, and about fifty people per class.

Out of one thousand students in a grade, only about forty or fifty people could pass the entrance exams and become Wizard Apprentice.

Take Li Size's class for example; originally, only two people had hope:

One was the son of the town land bureau chief, and the other was the daughter of a big merchant.

Seeing everyone's spirits a bit low, Snape suddenly raised his voice:

"But don't be discouraged! Today I want to tell you that this knowledge is not useless!

It is not only Wizards who can brew Potions!"

"What?!"

This sentence struck all the students like lightning, and many people's faces flushed red all of a sudden.

They felt as if they had heard some incredible secret and felt that a huge opportunity was laid out before them.

Even Li Size, who had been incredibly sleepy, instantly woke up, and his blood seemed to heat up all at once.

It was truly worth it not to go back to sleep for this class!

Snape was also happy to see everyone so excited.

The happiest thing for a teacher is to see students studying attentively.

Although he knew in his heart that wanting to learn how to brew a certain Potion based on one class was simply impossible.
