263: Ling Zhifu——Cao Ling Dog

"Besides, this matter has nothing to do with you in the first place."

"Although A-Yu's personality is a bit rotten, and her reputation in the Netherworld is about to hit rock bottom, she would never take her anger out on others for this kind of thing."

...

Northern Demon, Grass Spirit Village.

Grass Spirit Village was permeated with the smell of rotten leaves.

Chen Yu had just woken up when she heard a bone-tingling, teasing voice drift into her ears.

"Yo, you're finally awake, little Ghost Clan loli."

"What the hell?"

Chen Yu's brain was still like mush.

The moment she heard the word "Ghost Clan," she exploded on the spot.

She was a dignified Prefecture City God of the Underworld; even if her cultivation realm had fallen, she was still a proper Yin God.

How did she become a Ghost Clan member with mixed bloodlines?

She jumped up with a 'whoosh' to argue.

But her head hit the thatched roof with a "thud." This dilapidated hut was even shabbier than a beggar's nest.

The legless wooden table was propped up with stones, and the crooked chair was covered in loose fur.

The only decent thing was the pile of hay in the corner, which actually smelled like fresh flowers and grass.

When she saw who was speaking, Chen Yu's eyes almost popped out of their sockets.

She saw three half-human-tall dog-folk squatting at the door, with upper bodies shaped like humans wrapped in vines.

Their lower bodies were furry dog legs, and right in the middle of their dog heads grew a fern.

"Holy crap, it really is a Grass Spirit Dog!" Chen Yu gasped.

Didn't the Grass Spirit Dogs go extinct back during the God War?

Legend had it that they were born with the ability to sense wood spirit energy, and their spirit planting skills were absolutely superb.

If she could coax (trick) them back to the Underworld, the flower of the other shore fields along the River of Oblivion would see their yields double immediately.

The more she thought about it, the more excited she became. She rubbed her hands, her eyes glowing green, and just as she was about to try to get close to them...

She saw the little Grass Spirit Dog girl on the far left suddenly spit out a piece of cloth—it was her limited-edition strawberry underwear.

"My panties!" Chen Yu let out a yelp and lunged forward.

But she was pinned down by the Grass Spirit Dog Clan leader's paw on her head.

She rubbed her nose against the ground, and five or six pitch-black eggs emerged from the soil.

The eggshells were stained with the tar smell unique to Big Dog.

[Cross-planar hybridization.]

Chen Yu's jaw almost dropped in shock. "What on earth is His Majesty's puppy doing in the Demon realm?"

[Already have kids so soon? And they're born from eggs???]

The Grass Spirit Dog Clan leader bared her fangs: "Stinky girl! You really are in cahoots with those bandit dogs. Tell me, where did they take my daughter?"

"Bandit dogs? Misunderstanding, it's definitely a misunderstanding."

Chen Yu groaned under the pressure of the paw, "Although my Big Dog is mischievous, he would absolutely never do something as wicked as kidnapping."

The leader let out an 'awoo' and smashed half the wall: "You still dare to quibble? You fell from the sky one after the other, and that Big Dog snatched my daughter and ran off immediately."

"If you don't tell me their whereabouts today, I'll boil you into human meat soup."

Chen Yu put on a big smile and carefully pried at Feng Xi's hand with two fingers.

"Big Sister, calm down! Let's talk this over properly. Why resort to claws? It hurts our harmony~"

She scooted back half a foot, leaving a mark on the mud floor of the hut.

Feng Xi's dog eyes were wide round, and her vine-wrapped arm was still suspended in mid-air, with green wood spirit energy seeping from between her fingers.

Chen Yu noticed a blade of grass hanging on her canine tooth and grinned: "I haven't asked for your name yet, Big Sister? I am Chen Yu, 'Chen' as in the ear-east, 'Yu' as in 'beautiful jade'."

"Feng Xi."

The Grass Spirit Dog Clan leader's voice was muffled, like it was stuffed with cotton.

The fern on her dog head shook, "The 137th generation leader of the Grass Spirit Dog Clan."

She stared at the stray hair swaying on top of Chen Yu's head and slammed her paw onto the broken wooden table.

The tabletop cracked with a "snap," startling the grass sparrows nesting on the beam.

"Feng Xi~ Big~ Sister~" Chen Yu instantly caved, her head bowing until it nearly touched her knees.

"Big Sister, your bloodline is clearly an ancient pure blood; you must have realized long ago that that group was the Iron-Haired Dogs from the Netherworld, right?"

She stole a glance at the dog tooth necklace hanging from Feng Xi's waist and suddenly lowered her voice.

"Earlier, when you said you were going to boil me, you were actually testing my background?"

Feng Xi turned around abruptly, the vines on her back rustling, revealing a hideous scar on her lower back.

The scar was in the shape of claw marks, deep enough to see the bone: "Do you know where this injury came from?"

"It was carved by a human cultivator on a chopping board during the God War."

She grabbed Chen Yu's collar, her nose almost touching her face, "You bunch of gods and ghosts, what exactly are you trying to do by entering the Demon realm?"

Chen Yu was being choked to the point of rolling her eyes, but seeing the moisture in the corners of Feng Xi's eyes, she softened her tone.

"Big Sister, don't be agitated... I'm just here to look for a dog."

She pointed to the pile of eggs in the corner, "Look at this tar smell, it must be the good deed done by my Big Dog!"

Feng Xi looked in the direction of her finger, crouched down, and gently stroked the eggshells, her vine nails making a faint scratching sound on the surface of the eggs.

"My daughter... hasn't hatched yet." Her voice choked, her dog~ ears drooping.

"Yesterday, a group of Iron-Haired Dogs rushed in, and the biggest one snatched the egg and ran north."

"That is my only cub in a thousand years!"

A beam of light leaked through the thatched roof, illuminating the tip of Feng Xi's trembling tail.

Only then did Chen Yu notice that under the vine patch on her hindquarters, there were still dried bloodstains—it was clear she had just gone through labor.

"No wonder Big Dog was able to snatch the egg from the hands of a Level 6 peak expert."

Chen Yu gritted her back teeth with a creak, muttering to herself.

[You piece of trash who lacks virtue for eight lifetimes.]

She saw that the tip of Feng Xi's tail was trembling, and she pounded her flat chest and shouted.

"Big Sister Feng Xi, you can rest assured completely; finding the puppy is on me."

Feng Xi's dog eyes were wide round, her vine nails digging into Chen Yu's arm: "Really?"

The dog fur on her nose stood on end, "If you dare to play any tricks, I'll take your bones apart and use them as fertilizer for my spirit plants."

"Got it!"

Chen Yu winced in pain but still forced a smile, "I swear in the name of the Prefecture City God of the Underworld."

"Forget it! You don't look like a serious person at all." Feng Xi suddenly raised an eyebrow and sniffed hard at her face with her dog nose.

"I can tell just by smelling you that your reputation is definitely blacker than the bottom of a pot. What's the difference between swearing on your reputation and farting?"

She grabbed Chen Yu's collar and dragged her out the door, "Lead the way, hurry up."

"If I don't find my daughter, just see if I don't pluck all your white hair out to weave a dog bed."

Chen Yu let out a yell, kicking her legs as she jumped up: "Sister~ gently, gently."

She felt the fabric of her collar digging into her flesh, her whole body being held by Feng Xi with her feet off the ground.

Her neck bones were about to snap.

The Grass Spirit Dog Clan leader's claws were like iron pincers, making her teeth ache.

"If you keep carrying me like this, my neck is sure to snap in two like a hemp rope."

Feng Xi sneered and gripped even tighter.

"What are you howling for? An Underworld Yin God? I think you're probably just a lackey running errands for others."

She looked Chen Yu up and down at her scrawny little frame, her canine teeth glinting coldly in the light.

"What kind of place is the Underworld? A Prefecture City God is at least a Level 7 deity. Just look at you, a white-haired little shrimp, your spiritual power is as weak as a sieve."

"Talking nonsense, and you don't even bother to brag? Do you take this Clan Leader for a foolish woman living in the mountains who is ignorant and ill-informed?"
