151: Chapter 151 Su Mo Holds the Line, Zhou Qian Returns Unsuccessful

Su Mo stepped aside to let Zhou Qian in. Her expression appeared cold, but her heart was filled with tension and unease.

Zhou Qian stood outside the door and gave a slight nod in thanks. His gaze lingered briefly on Su Mo's Face before he took a steady step inside.

Though the apartment wasn't large, it was exquisitely decorated. The one-bedroom layout exuded the style favored by the petite bourgeoisie. Zhou Qian scanned the room, his gaze sweeping through every corner of the living room before finally landing on the conspicuous luxury brand shopping bags piled in the corner. A subtle curve formed on his Face as he silently labeled Su Mo as materialistic and vain, feeling even more confident about his upcoming pitch.

Su Mo led Zhou Qian to the dining table and motioned for him to sit. She stood to the side, arms crossed in a defensive posture, facing Zhou Qian with a cold gaze and a hint of disdain in her voice: "Lawyer Zhou, is it? Didn't you say you wanted to talk about Wang Hao? Let's start now."

Zhou Qian smiled slightly, seemingly unbothered by Su Mo's attitude. He took two documents from his briefcase, placed them gently on the dining table, and pushed them toward Su Mo. He looked up at her with a certain level of confidence: "Miss Su, since you let me in, it means there's still room for discussion regarding Wang Hao. I won't beat around the bush; I've prepared two documents. One is a compensation agreement, and the other is a lawyer's letter."

Su Mo frowned at the two documents, a surge of inexplicable anger rising within her. She quickly flipped through the contents, her Face growing increasingly grim. Finally, she couldn't help but slam the documents onto the table, glaring at Zhou Qian as she snapped, "Lawyer Zhou, Wang Hao knows the truth better than anyone! He and Qin Yi intentionally harmed me? What a joke! The thief is crying 'thief'—this tactic is truly despicable and shameless!"

Faced with Su Mo's anger, Zhou Qian remained exceptionally calm. He adjusted his glasses, a dismissive smile playing on his lips. "Miss Su, please don't be angry yet. I know the contents of this lawyer's letter might differ from the facts, but that's not the point. We can set the dispute aside for now and talk about compensation." As he spoke, he pushed the compensation agreement toward Su Mo again, pointing to the signature line at the end. "As long as Miss Su signs and leaves a thumbprint here, Mr. Wang Hao is willing to offer two million as compensation. Furthermore, he has only one request."

"Two million?" Su Mo deliberately put on a shocked expression as she looked at Zhou Qian. "Are you sure you're not joking?"

Seeing Su Mo's attitude soften, Zhou Qian felt a secret joy. The curve of his lips became more pronounced. "Of course! It's written clearly in black and white; it absolutely cannot be faked!"

Su Mo pretended to ponder for a moment, then nodded. "Fine, since you're being so sincere, I'll hear it. Tell me, what exactly is his request?" A flash of cunning flickered in her eyes as she spoke.

"Haha, it's very simple. Miss Su just needs to go to the Jingan Branch again and change the statement you gave the police last night," Zhou Qian said easily, a confident smile on his Face.

Su Mo frowned, looking confused. "Change my statement? Even if I change it, the police might not believe it, and there's surveillance video at the scene..."

Zhou Qian smiled dismissively and waved his hand to indicate she shouldn't worry. "You don't need to concern yourself with those things, Miss Su. You just need to change your statement. Don't say you were coerced by Mr. Wang Hao; say you were instigated by Qin Yi instead. The rest will have nothing to do with you."

Su Mo's eyes widened, and she looked at Zhou Qian with feigned disbelief, her voice rising. "You want me to frame Qin Yi?"

Seeing this, Zhou Qian waved his hand with a smile to explain. "Now, that's a bit harsh. We don't want to blow things out of proportion; we just want to reduce a major issue to a minor one and then to nothing at all. In the end, isn't it just about young people and their Face? The road ahead is long; wouldn't it be better for everyone to take a step back?"

Su Mo fell silent for a moment, feeling very displeased. Reducing a major issue to nothing—he made it sound so easy. That bastard Wang Hao had bullied her so much, and now they wanted her to just let it go? Not a chance!

While she thought this, she didn't show her dissatisfaction. Instead, she looked up at Zhou Qian and asked, "What about the photos and videos on Wang Hao's phone?"

Zhou Qian smiled slightly and reassured her, "Rest assured, Miss Su, I will require him to delete those things completely; they will definitely not be leaked. If you're still worried, I can have Wang Hao write a legally binding letter of commitment."

"Hmph," Su Mo snorted coldly, countering, "Lawyer Zhou, what use is a letter of commitment? If they get leaked in the future, it's my reputation that's ruined!"

Hearing Su Mo say this, Zhou Qian felt more certain. Having concerns was fine; it just meant she thought the compensation was too low. As long as she was willing to talk, there was still room. So, he continued to up the ante: "It's normal for Miss Su to have concerns; I completely understand. If you're unsatisfied with the compensation or have other requests, feel free to bring them up."

Su Mo took a deep breath, looked at Zhou Qian, and said thoughtfully, "Lawyer Zhou, while I don't know much about the law, I do know that giving a false statement carries legal responsibility. This is a big deal; I need to think it over carefully."

Upon hearing this, the smile on Zhou Qian's Face gradually disappeared, replaced by a touch of gravity. He nodded, his tone carrying a hint of threat and warning: "It's right for Miss Su to have concerns. However, time is pressing. If the Jingan Branch transfers the case to the court, I'm afraid I'll have no choice but to submit this lawyer's letter to the court as well. At that time, Miss Su won't even get the two million in compensation, and you might even end up in a lawsuit yourself."

Su Mo's expression changed slightly. She glared at Zhou Qian and snapped, "Are you threatening me?"

Zhou Qian did not back down despite Su Mo's anger. He looked her straight in the eye and said calmly, "Miss Su, I am merely stating facts. I don't want things to develop to that point either."

Su Mo took a deep breath, trying to calm her emotions. She looked coldly at Zhou Qian and said, "The police haven't transferred it to the court yet. I said I need to think about this properly. If Lawyer Zhou has nothing else, please leave." As she spoke, she stood up from her chair, making a gesture to see him out.

Seeing this, Zhou Qian shook his head helplessly and stood up. He tucked the two documents back into his briefcase and then took a business card from his bag, placing it on the table. "If Miss Su makes up her mind, you can call me. I'll be waiting." With that, he turned and walked toward the door.

Just then, there was a 'thump, thump, thump' knock on the door. Su Mo went forward and looked through the peephole, seeing that Shen Jianan had arrived. Feeling slightly more at ease, she pressed the handle and opened the door.

Zhou Qian's heart jolted when he saw that the newcomer was a policewoman in uniform. A flash of unease crossed his Face, but he quickly regained his composure. He gave Shen Jianan a slight nod as a greeting, then turned back to Su Mo, his tone sounding a bit rushed: "Miss Su, since you have a guest, I won't disturb you further. I hope you can give me an answer regarding what we discussed soon." After saying this, he walked quickly to the door, his steps appearing slightly frantic.

Su Mo glanced nervously at Shen Jianan and saw her watching her with piercing eyes, making her heart flutter with anxiety. She didn't respond to Zhou Qian's words, merely watching him leave in silence. It wasn't until Zhou Qian's back disappeared outside the door that she breathed a sigh of relief and quickly closed the door.

She leaned her back against the door, taking several deep breaths to calm her agitated emotions. She turned and grabbed Shen Jianan's hand, saying gratefully, "Officer Shen, you're finally here. That's wonderful."

Shen Jianan gently patted the back of Su Mo's hand, signaling her to relax. "Don't be nervous. What did Zhou Qian just say to you?"

Su Mo nodded and pulled Shen Jianan to sit on the sofa, then recounted everything Zhou Qian had said to her in detail.

After finishing, she stood up and walked to a pile of plush dolls, pulling out a cartoonish surveillance device. She expertly removed the memory card and handed it to Shen Jianan, her eyes full of expectation: "Officer Shen, all the surveillance footage is on this card."

Shen Jianan carefully took the memory card and tucked it into the lining of her phone case. She looked at Su Mo, a hint of admiration flashing in her eyes. "Thank you, Su Mo. To be honest, I was worried you might be persuaded when I was on my way here."

Su Mo gave a self-deprecating smile, her expression showing both anger and helplessness as she exhaled sharply. "To be honest, I was conflicted. That two million in compensation is indeed tempting, but when I think about how that bastard Wang Hao treated me during this time, my teeth itch with hatred. I absolutely cannot let him off so easily!"

Shen Jianan squeezed Su Mo's hand tightly and encouraged her, "Don't worry, Su Mo. As long as we uphold justice, Wang Hao will surely Face the sanctions of the law."

Su Mo nodded but then sighed. "Actually, I don't just hate him; I hate myself too." As she spoke, her voice became choked with emotion. After a moment of silence, she pointed to the pile of luxury shopping bags in the corner, a look of regret in her eyes. She continued, "I really regret it. Why was I so vain? If it weren't for those designer brands and luxury goods, I wouldn't have broken up with Qin Yi, and I certainly wouldn't have followed that bastard Wang Hao. In the end, I can't blame anyone else; it's all my own doing..."

Shen Jianan also sighed helplessly, then gently patted Su Mo's shoulder and comforted her softly, "Su Mo, you're still young. It's not too late to recognize your mistakes and change."

Su Mo looked up at Shen Jianan with reddened eyes, her voice trembling with a hint of hope: "Officer Shen, do you think... if I went back to Qin Yi, would he still forgive me?"

Hearing this, Shen Jianan's heart tightened. She hesitated for a moment, not knowing how to answer. Looking into Su Mo's eyes, which were filled with expectation, a complex surge of emotions welled up in her heart.

Seeing that Shen Jianan didn't answer, Su Mo silently lowered her head. Her shoulders began to shake slightly as she curled up on the sofa, burying her head deeply between her knees. Before long, low sobs echoed through the apartment.

Seeing this, Shen Jianan felt a pang of sorrow. She stood up to pour Su Mo a glass of water and placed some tissues on the coffee table. She gently patted Su Mo's shoulder and said softly, "Su Mo, if you want to cry, just let it out. You might feel better after a good cry."

...

Meanwhile, Wang Ming and Secretary Wu arrived at the Hongtai Construction office building almost at the same time.
